I am so stoked to see actual dedicated dessert parlours in the UK, which is a rare sight in Dublin. Being a sweet-tooth, nothing delights me more than a whole shop dedicated to desserts! Was too full to try any of the delicious sounding desserts and sundaes(banana splits, Peach melbas, waffles etc) so opted for a two-scoop icecream. The chocolate waffle cone is £1.60 with £1 extra on top for another scoop. I was feeling tropical so went for coconut and pineapple. Very sweet, slightly artificial tasting though — to my disappointment. The waffle cone was nice, and will try indulge in a proper sundae next time. The place is huge with seating options at the back. Might be fun with a group of friends.

I have a general rule that goes: anything sugary = good. It’s not a perfect rule by any means, but it certainly is a simple one that solves many of life’s conundrums. In this case the conundrum is whether Sweet Box is worth spending your money in. The answer is, of course, yes. It’s sugary, what more do you want? They serve an array of sweets and cakes that can only be described as a diabetic’s worst nightmare, or possibly a tooth fairy’s dream, and the prices are good enough to send you into fits of joy(before you go into the hyper-glycaemic ones anyway). If I said anymore I would be wasting my time, and your time, so just visit it already!

If Rusholme had to be crowned with its ultimate dessert place keeping not just the tongue but also ambience, service and experience in mind, Sweet Box would steal the crown away! Since it came up, it has undoubtedly filled up the ‘best crepes’ title which the Curry Mile sincerely lacked! It has the best nutella and banana crepes!(Of course they do others, but these are my personal favourite, I’m already starting to desire them!) Its not a crammed up place like a lot of places around, and its amazing for that little sweet snack we quite crave past midnight! Ice creams, waffles and now pizza slices mark its regulars while they also do some Indian sweets, along with some innovative ones like the ‘Bubble gum sweet’, worth a try! It is a little on the expensive side for the crepes as a dessert, but they are sooooo good! Ok, I’m starting to realize that you may have well got my message of what to be sure to order when you’re there! All you sweet-toothed peeps, pop in and get some sugar!

Sweet Box is, for me, always second best in the practice of desert vending on the curry mile. Serving all the same products as its fierce rival Treats, Sweet Box is perfectly good, but not quite good enough to compete. Admittedly, I’m making this rivalry up, but in my head they’re raging battle, and that’s all that counts(my therapist told me). Whether its ice cream, milkshakes or waffles, for me Treats is just marginally better. I feel bad for saying so, because Sweet Box is not bad at all, and it does do a great waffle I must admit(plus everyone loves to empathize with the under-dog). I do a great waffle too don’t you think? Ultimately though, I have to say, having tried both a few times, I now only go to Treats.

Watch out you can become victim to the«eating too much sugar sickness». I often find it difficult to restrain myself around here and I end up with waffles and milkshakes, about 45 seconds later I hold my stomach and feel nausea. The sweet box if you have a sense of moderation is a good jaunt with lots of lovely bits to round up your curry meal from one of the multitude of restaurants. If you’re on a curry though it can still make a great late night alternative to the kebabs of the curry mile. I honestly think that milkshakes are one of the best hangover prevention methods.
