Ive been to Cosmeston Lakes quite a few times over the last couple of years and I almost always pop into the café if it’s open. It’s got a great view over the lakes and is a haven when the rain comes. It’s large and clean and pretty cheap on the whole. Food ranges from breakfast staples to sandwiches and jacket potato’s. But you can just pop in for a cuppa and a rest before you go home. It’s very family friendly and has a kid’s menu and you can bring your dogs and sit outside on the decked seating area outside. It’s also fully wheelchair accessible. The food is served quickly and is hot and tasty. Because it’s open and friendly it has become a bit of a meeting place for families, twitchers(bird fanciers) and walking groups. It’s also easy to access the Cosmeston Shop which has a vast array of leaflets and information on what’s happening locally. Thoroughly recommend it.

If you’re spending a summer’s day at Cosmeston I’d recommend taking a picnic along so you can enjoy your surroundings while you eat — the on site café is not very inspiring. If you’re exploring the park during the winter, on the other hand, this place does offer somewhere warm to enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake or some lunch. The food is nothing exceptional, and the hot drinks aren’t exactly ‘leading coffee chain’ standards, but it’s not too bad — and is still a welcome retreat ona chilly day. You can find it fairly close to the park’s entrance. Cosmeston itself is a wonderful open space with two lakes, lots of meadowland, a fascinating Medieval village, a play area, and loads of wildlife to spot.

As you can probably ascertain from my review I’m a massive fan of Cosmeston park, so it’s rather inevitable that I have some experience with this café. As Tiffany mentioned the atmosphere in this café isn’t the best(I think the surrounding area must really put it to shame). Additionally the food is average at best. However if you’re visiting the park and fancy a light bite this café will suffice.

The setting is beautiful and in summer it’s great to nip in and get an ice lolly for the walk around the lakes but as a Café it’s somewhat lacking. There isn’t a huge selection of food and the atmosphere is all a bit stilted and ‘meh’. Mostly it’s filled with pensioners having a nice cup of tea. I can’t help but feel that with the beauty of the surrounding areas you’d waste an opportunity for a really awesome summer picnic if you stopped here for lunch. That said, on those blazing hot days, after a lap of the lake there is nothing better than treating yourself to a freezing cold drink and an ice cream. For that alone, this gets three stars.

This is a small café sharing the visitor centre at Cosmeston Country Park. They serve hot and cold food and drinks all year round, and although not wonderful, it’s everything you need to relax or keep up your energy for a busy day of exploring ahead. Cosmeston has wonderful walks around the lakes, an adventure play ground and board walks through the marshes; a great place to walk or cycle. Also on site is the fantastic Medieval Village, which is most certainly worth a gander. The boardwalk itself leads right up to the outdoor seating area of the café.
