A few years back, in the US, there used to be a chain of stores called Service Merchandise. Argos reminded me of them. Catalogs on tables on display in front, all of the pages nicely laminated. Flip through the catalog to find the item you want, then key the item number into the(very simple) computer to see if it’s in stock. If so, hooray! If not, bummer. I was looking for a small space heater in January. Needless to say, they were all out. I tried ten different models starting from cheap to expensive. Other than heaters in January, Argos carries all sorts of stuff. Kitchen equipment, furniture, jewelry, you name it. It’s all in the catalog. So there is actually very little in the shop that you get to touch and see if you like it before committing. Once you do find what you like, order it. If it’s in stock in the shop, they’ll pull it from the warehouse area. Pay for it. Take it home. Really, not that difficult. They usually have a pallet of those catalogs out front so you can take one home for later study. They do a fine job of holding up your wobbly table.
