I could do some damage at House of Fraser. I got a BIBA dress(tragically overpriced) and a Desigual sweater that was on sale. Label Lab clothing looked interesting-they had a leather knockoff of an Alexander Wang bag with those heavy studs on the bottom for 199 pounds. I was a bit perplexed at some of the clothing though as you wandered deeper into the store. For an upscale joint, they seemed to have some bright tacky not terribly well made items for sale in addition to the nicer things. It was an odd combination. I feel like the merchandise here could have been better edited. Not as high end as Bloomingdales by any means.

This shop reminds me very clearly of the American«Bloomingdales» with higher end fashion, beauty products, kitchenware, electronics and the like. I was looking for a particular kitchen implement — I never did find it — but I was amazed at the long list of name brand labels that I saw throughout the shop, including Biba, Elle, DKNY, Miss Selfridge, Tommy Hilfiger and more. And that was just the ladies departments! The prices are, well, shocking. But as the saying goes, if you have to ask, then you can’t afford it. They have their own Caffe Nero and a Yo! Sushi inside the store. It is a part of the Oracle Shopping Centre and therefore there is ample parking.

There’s a very wide variety of designer(and/or expensive) shops all under one roof. While there are some bargains to be had, it’s cumbersome to have to check each of the separate designer areas to check them out. For example, if you are looking for a blouse, there is no section of blouses; one has to go through all the different little shops to get an overview.

Pros House of Fraser is situated in a great location in Reading’s Oracle shopping centre, next to the Riverside. The store is laid out over three levels and is huge– it stocks a wide range of goods, from clothes to homewares, and even has a Yo! Sushi on site. The goods are good quality, on average better than in comparable stores like Debenhams and John Lewis, and there are quite a few designer names. I have always found it easy to find sales assistants, and found them polite and courteous. Cons Because House of Fraser stocks quality brands, you do end up paying more. I tend to go during the sales when you can end up finding some great bargains.

House of Fraser at the Oracle Reading has the best quality of all department stores in Reading IMO. The designer clothes selection is the best of any shop in Reading. The store is huge as you might expect. Home department on the ground floor has everything. the furniture is beautiful. there is a café and a newly opened Yo Sushi! diner. great shopping experienceif you can afford it.
