If you fancy splashing out a bit of cash on regular food and drinks, in a great atmosphere then maybe you’ll like the Saracen’s head. This used to be a family hot spot but not so much now because the prices aren’t worth what you pay. You might agree that having friendly staff is a bonus to any business. As I just said, due to the high prices I’m not a regular her but I can imagine that the staff have a nice relationship with the regulars because they are friendly, kind and aim to be helpful. The deals on their tasty and filling food are regularly changing but the deals are more useful when there are two or more people. In case you’re wondering«Why would people go to the pub, on their own?» The truth is I’m not too sure either, but that happens here. The Saracens Head also sell curries but as an Asian I don’t think the food tastes much like what it should do. Here’s a useless fact for you; pubs used to be known as ‘Public Inns’ and people could stay there after long journeys and if you have visited Shirley then you’ll know there are a lot of large businesses and industrial estates. The Saracens head also holds a Premier Inn. The point is that you can here whilst enjoying the food and drinks, which is handier if you’ve travelled a long way or have a business meeting the next day. The pub is located roughly in the middle of the high street and you can sit outside and look at the busy surroundings and have front row seats at parades like the ST Georges celebrations.

This pub is a 2 for 1 meals pub. It has recently undergone a complete refurbishment and is now much nicer inside as it used to be quite run down with mucky seats and tables. It has also been take over by a new landlady. The food is very good for the price. If you buy one meal it’s expensive but that is sorted out by the fact that the second meal is free. There is a wide choice on the menu and they also do snacks and sandwiches as well as main meals. There’s also a childrens menu. There is outside seating but this isn’t very pleasant as it’s at the side of a main road so you get car fumes blown at you as you eat/drink. They do allow children inside the pub. They have a good selection of alcoholic and soft drinks available and prices are ok. It gets busy on a Friday and Saturday night with locals but it’s friendly in there.

The Saracen’s Head is a restaurant/pub situated on the Stratford Rd in the main shopping area of Shirley. The pub section is usually extremely quiet, with the odd exception being a group on a Friday or Saturday night that go in before carrying onto a club. Given the lack of competition, being served at the bar is a cakewalk. Prices are reasonable, and the selection of drinks is good enough for most folks. The restaurant tends to be busier, but rarely to the point where you have to wait to be seated(this only happens, if ever, on a Sunday afternoon). The food is the usual pub grub sort of menu and I’ve been happy with it every time I’ve been in. The staff are friendly and personable, though the manager often looks extremely stressed.
