i’ve pretty much hit every pub in Burnaby and would say there was a reason why I never came here. Showed up on a Sunday night(only 2 – 3 tables) and service was extremely slow… can tell the waiter was either lazy or unmotivated. The guy never checked on us, had to consistently flag him down for service and when we ordered second round of drinks for our 4 person table, he got the drinks wrong… wtf? With so much choice in Burnaby, there is absolutely no reason to go this dump.

Food used to be great of good pub value. Went today had Rueben sandwich. First bite only tasted hot mustard. Very little sauerkraut or meat. Took a long time to get our appetizer of potatoe skins which were overcooked but cold. My husband had hot turkey sandwich special. Sandwich was cold.. Food with little imagination. The Ceasar Salad that came with the sandwiches was good(in all fairness). Wont eat there again unless half price appy hour.

Grew up in this neighborhood, so I’ve been coming here pretty much since I was of age. The décor has definitely improved, as well as the food. It is what it is folks — a neighbourhood«beer parlor» — don’t expect too much more than a good time and a relaxed atmosphere and you’ll enjoy the visit. Appies are half price any night any Vancouver sports team is playing — take advantage of this as regular prices are very steep. Don’t order anything too«complex» in the way of mixed drinks — the bartenders repertoire is limited. Breakfast is pretty good and fairly priced — I’d recommend the BC Benny(bacon and aged cheddar). The staff are amazing! Love the waitresses.

Worst service ever– extremely rude servers. I have had 3 visits: 1. First time there, ordered the ‘spicy pepper burger’ which was supposed to have hot peppers in the patty. There was absolutely no spice whatsoever, so I assumed they mistakenly made me a regular burger. I told the waitress that I didn’t think it was the right burger and she simply replied ‘yes it is!’ She just argued with me and repeatedly told me I was wrong. She never offered to bring me something else or even a side of hot sauce which I eventually asked for. When she came back she told me that she checked with the cook and he confirmed he used the spicy pepper patty, like that was in any way helpful. I had wanted something spicy and left disappointed. 2. Day after Halloween. Servers were visibly hungover and fighting with each other in front of customers. Took over an hour to get a simple breakfast order. 3. My husband and I walked in and the server literally pretended not to see us until we left. There was hardly anyone in the place, and she did not appear busy. Never came back.

Regular prices are steep for what you get. Eating what you want at the correct time and day is the key — there are specials on every day. This is a sports pub with occasional live music, so what you’re really there to do is drinking. Great food is probably an afterthought here, as it is with many such places. As sports pubs go, this is a pretty decent place: Spacious, and a good view of at least one TV no matter which way you turn. Spacing between seats is generous, and table space is also quite generous. Don’t sit too close to the front when they’ve got a band or you’re liable to walk out with a ringing in your ears for a very long time. My friend had gone several times, apparently, and for 50%-off pasta night, he recommended the West Coast Seafood while he got the Homemade Lasagne. For unclear reasons other than«more flavour» he basically poured parmesan cheese and chili flakes onto his dish. I didn’t ask to try it. Also, Lasagne in a bowl is sort of odd, but there you go. West Coast Seafood($ 16 normally, $ 8 on Thursdays) tiger prawns, wild BC smoked salmon, mussels and baby scallops in a creamy white wine and dill sauce; your choice of pasta — Instead of a lot of sauce, my pasta came tossed/coated in a thick paste. There was sauce flavour in every bite, but if you are looking for a wetter pasta swimming in thick, creamy, soupy sauce, you’ll have to ask for that. — The pasta portion is basically fine for $ 8 and a medium to light meal. — Four mussels, maybe about the same number of prawns of OK size. — I think there were two matchbook sized pieces of smoked salmon — read the menu carefully as it says smoked salmon, which means if it feels kind of tough and dry, you can’t complain that your salmon was overcooked. — To be honest I didn’t think using smoked salmon was such a great choice precisely because it felt like overcooked salmon. I’d rather they skip it entirely instead of forcing it into the menu if they can’t get fresh salmon. — Sauce was okay, but there’s wine and dill here? Use of smoked salmon didn’t help the overall aroma. — Portion and taste is OK for $ 8, maybe $ 10 but $ 16 would feel steep. — Served with one rather nice piece of garlic toast. 1″ thick slice of french bread, buttered and lightly garliced very evenly all the way to the edge. Save about half of this for last to mop up the leftover sauce on your plate. IF the one item I tried is any indication of the menu, then the Admiral Pub & Grill offers mediocre food – but for a cheap to very cheap price if you go on the right day, and that feature is definitely worth one star. You can get lunch/dinner for under $ 10 — even less if you go on $ 3 burger Saturdays.

I’ve been to this place many times over the years with varied results. It’s Bar Food and it can be prepare well or not. Do not sit at the Bar as the bartenders allow others to push you and your drinks aside if you go up to dance. I like to tip but it is not mandatory if service, food, not friendly staff or other patrons are allowed to be disrespectful in front of staff. Music/Bands are Ok to Great. We go to Dance with our Favourite Bands

So I gave this place a 4-star rating. That reason being, drinks were tasty and great Elvis show hands down a lot of fun and awesome talented men! However, those are the only reasons for the 4 stars. The staff was quite sour and gave dirty looks at me throughout the evening. The potato wedges were awesome, but the taco salad didn’t have fresh veggies and they forgot the dressing… I was too scared to ask our server for dressing, I waited to flag a different server down… I would go for the Elvis show again for sure! And drinks :) When our server took the dirty plates away, she asked if we wanted anything else. We said no and she encouraged us to get our bill. Not very impressed. She came back with the bill and expected us to pay right then and there… No time to even look at it or just enjoy the Elvis Show… Not impressed with that server for sure. Still, Elvis show was great :)

So it looks like they’ve cranked the prices somewhat. And the appetizers are no longer half-priced on Sundays. Boo.

They have great daily specials on the weekdays and the beer is cheap on game nights. Only $ 3.50 a sleeve. The crowd is older, but that’s ok. The live bands on the weekend are entertaining and they usually have a good Elvis impersonator show every few weeks. Mondays is the turkey dinner which is my favorite for about $ 6.00.

Horrible Service from the Bar Tender. Came in for a quick Beer and eventually wings or some other appetizer. Waited for the guy 10 minutes before he came out from the back chewing something. Never offered a Menu, specials or even second sleeve. I have asked 3 times for a bill and never got one. He must be pocketing money Tax Free. Charged me $ 11.50 for two louse sleeves of Canadian and NOBILL! Avoid this Pub.

I don’t even know where to begin. We came to this place because they have live music during the week and my friend sometimes sings there. So many things went wrong… I’m not sure where to begin. The waitress pretty much ignored us the entire night, I had to physically chase her down a few times. The food was horrendous… I didn’t even know you could screw up a salad or simple pasta dish. My partner’s beer was totally flat and tasted off. The bartender gave him such attitute and then the waitress charged us for the beer that couldn’t be drunk. When we asked where the manager was, the waitress told us it was the bartender. The bartender said that he had to make us pay for the beer otherwise it came out of his paycheck. .what? Long story short, I will never return. Ever. I’m rarely this mean.

BESTKARAOKENIGHTEVER? Yes, i think so. I came here by chance a few Mondays ago with my boyfriend and a couple friends. We had just gone on a wholesome double date to the pool nearby and figured we’d share some pub grub and grab a drink together for dinner. You know, just a chill, dignified time where we could speak without slurring and not dance on chairs. Oh how wrong we were. We sat in our booth, checked out the menus and noticed something written on their weekly schedule: ‘MONDAYS: Karaōke.’ Suddenly we all felt a lot thirstier and had evil glints in our eyes. The drink special was pretty good. A little bottle Red Stripe was $ 3.50, so we figured we’d get drunk for a respectable price. That also flew out the window. My boyfriend and the other gentleman in our double date group had just gotten back from Europe where they tried Irish Car Bombs for the first time(they also informed us that in Ireland, they’re just called Car Bombs. The more you know!) and they insisted we all do a round. Oddly enough, Irish Car Bombs are not on the menu here… Guinness only comes in cans, and they don’t have a setting in their system to mix shots… Luckily our fantastic waitress was able to split a can of Guinness between the three of us and just rang in the shots as though we got two shots of Whiskey and two shots of Baileys. It was thanks to her ingenuity that we got so drunk! The karaōke was AWESOME. The selection is really huge, but the only thing is that their song catalogue is online, so if no one in your party has a phone that can access the net you’ll have to harass the karaōke MC about whether he has a song or not. The mic was busy all night, but everyone in the room got to sing a few times, which was great. I hate when you go to a karaōke night that’s so packed you don’t get a chance to sing! Thanks to them having wireless microphones, my boyfriend was able to do a really spirited version of Turn Me Loose that included running across the bar to our table, jumping on the bench and dancing. There is also a mic stand if you’re too lazy to hold the mike, and while i didn’t use it, my bf did quite a few kicks and dance moves with it. When people can do things like this without being escorted off of the premises it makes me really, really happy. As an added bonus(humiliation?), if you want them to, they will upload a video of you singing to youtube so you can relive those happy memories(or you know, be reminded of them the next day if you’re blackout drunk)… So on a related note, if you want to see two heavy metal dudes doing a duet to Don’t You Want Me, all you gotta do is youtube that song title with ‘Justin and Shane.’ And no, i won’t tell you if they are now youtube vids of me singing anything. What happens at karaōke night stays at karaōke night!

SO I walk into this place looking for somewhere to drink beer and watch some CFL Football double header action. The TVs all have GOLF on them and some others have Poker. I ask the bartender if they are going to be putting«the games» on and he replies«Why would we want to watch THAT first game???» Well, THATGAME was the Winnipeg Blue Bombers VS the Edmonton Eskimos which are the two BESTTEAMSINTHELEAGUE at the moment! He was hinting that they are ONLY going to be playing the BC Lions game later on. I was going to politely remind him that the Lions are the worst team in the league at the moment and were playing the equally weak Sask Riders, but I was so perplexed by his rude ignorance that I was lost for words. Enjoy your golf, you bunch of old farts! I might come back one night for Kareoke though…

Hmm — coming back recently, I couldn’t figure out why I liked this place so much last visit. I was in the same company, it was karaōke night again, similar drink specials and it was the same crowd. Was it because of the Canucks game on TV? Was I *that* drunk last time? Or my disappointment when they told me they no longer has Murphy’s Irish Stout on tap? Did the nostalgia of the once proud NBI fade already? Maybe because the waitress suggested Guinness instead? Was it the realization that their draft drink specials weren’t really that special? Why I am happy to pay ~$ 15 for tasteless mega-brew beer? I must note that service was good despite being busy. I left my phone at the bar and the waitress actually called my friend trying to find its owner. Sometimes, it’s great to have a phone so shitty that no one will steal it. *sigh* The hunt for a neighbourhood bar within stumbling distance continues…

How can you not check out this über cool hangout? Karaōke Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s. Every karaōke night if you sang, your entry is entered into a draw for $ 25 cash. Plus on the first monday of the month the previous month’s comment cards. Draw starts at $ 200 and currently(may 31) is unclaimed and standing at $ 800. It’s okay… It seems to be more of a pub for the older crowd. Especially with a name like old admirals. When you walk it, it seems like it’s going to be a bit stuffy in there, but surprisingly it’s not. They used to serve Anducci’s food there… but from what I heard they don’t anymore. I haven’t been back since. Again… it’s alright. It’s one of the only pub choices in the area.
