Stopped in for dinner, based on the ambiance and that the menu seemed a little different. Only after we were inside and listened to the employees did we realize it was Italian. Or at least, that is what everybody spoke. Food was great. Only complaint is that the employees smoke at the door and the smoke blows inside.

Great Italian restaurant! I lived 20 meters from it and after one year I decided to try it… and I was pretty surprised! The quality of the food is excellent and the price is fair(around 25 € for person including wine). The service is good and the environment really cozy. Must try at least once !

Ballakano was not on any list I was given for visiting Barcelona. It was, in fact, just a small tapas bar my friend and I popped into before heading to a more recommended place down the street. We were hungry, in search of dinner, and desperate for chorizo, so we tried Ballakano. It was the best tapas I’ve ever had, and definitely a defining moment of our trip. I remember sitting back in the chair, plied with sangria and saying I was comfortable enough in Barcelona never to leave. The food and hospitality were of the highest calibre, despite the small, intimate space. Yet the restaurant wasn’t without character, from the tattooed servers to the funky bathroom stalls and horse meat hamburger I ate. It was a place that I’d go in London, though it would be difficult to transport that state of mind that Barcelona just has. I’d definitely stop in if you’re in the area. It was a lovely dinner, with good food and good service, and a neat little atmosphere. The fried calamari is great, and the fruta con fresco is a great dessert option. And, of course, the sangria is delicious.
