La Bombeta

Top 5 things we are in BCN… the bombetas are worth the wait… service is ehh. they seem to take great care of the locals, but pay little attention to tourists… which makes sense but doesn’t make it right… but even considering that we went back a second time to have some more before we went home… if in BCN go!

¡La bomba!
Acabamos en La Bombeta tras una mañana buscando algún sitio de tapeo por la Barceloneta, y tras probar exhaustivamente gran parte de sus tapas (fuimos con hambre… :P) aquí esta mi primera impresión:
Donde esta: Al lado del Paseo Juan de Borbón, en pleno centro de la Barceloneta.
El local: Igual que el bar de toda la vida de tu pueblo; se trata de un bar de los más típico que he visto, con tapas en la barra, barriles de madera detrás de ella, y todo lo que esperarías del bar de debajo de tu casa. Mencionar que cuando fuimos vimos a gran cantidad de gente del barrio, lo que es una señal de confianza.
El servicio: Muy atento y natural, te sentiras como en casa!
Lo importante (LA COMIDA): Tapas de una cantidad considerable, pero sin pasarse. Ofrecen desde míticos chipirones fritos, mejillones, pulpo, pescadilla… hasta sus famosas bombetas, bola de patata con carne rebozada cubierta de salsa alioli, que están para chuparse los dedos (ojo que pican). Ofrecen también tostadas, que no pude probar, aunque tenían muy buena pinta. Todo ello acompañado de vermut, sangria, vino… ideal.
Pero… ¿hay cola?: Tuvimos que esperar unos 20 minutos, nada del otro mundo y para nada un punto negativo.
Conclusión: Probarlo, nosotros repetiremos.

Our first night in Barcelona, we so thankful that our Spanish friend took us here to eat. What an amazing introduction to the amazing food Barcelona has to offer! We ordered several small dishes (tapas) that we could share among the three of us.
Please order the Bombas, they are, as their name describes, the bomb! Patatas bravas, chorizo and mortilla were among the other dishes we shared and all were wonderful.
For dessert we shared Crema Catalonia and it was to die for. You will not be disappointed at La Bombeta.

It’s surprising how there are these inexpensive but great restaurants just one street away from the waterfront.
La Bombeta might seem like an unassuming spot, but their food was truly delicious!
We tried their mussels with marinara sauce, garlic prawns, grilled small squid, and grilled artichoke. Everything was tasty! Their sangria is sweet but quite strong at the same time. I’ll definitely go back!

Sehr gute Tapas. Der Ober sprach zwar kein Englisch, jedoch super nett und kompetent. War ein echter Genuss hier zu essen.

Buscando otro bar donde probar las famosas bombas de Barcelona, y que estaba cerrado, nos encontramos por casualidad este otro y, por el nombre, nos pareció que podía suplir nuestras ansias de bomba rica.
Y sí, no nos equivocamos. Pedimos una bomba por cabeza y unas braviolis para compartir. Ambas cosas estaban buenísimas, y bastante parecidas, ya que compartían las mismas salsas, algo que no nos importó en absoluto, porque eran deliciosas. La bomba llenaba bastante. Para quien no lo sepa, es básicamente una bola frita hecha con masa de patata, rellena de algún tipo de carne, aunque muy poca cantidad de esta, casi todo es patata. Por encima le ponen las dos salsas que llevan las braviolis, es decir, un poco de salsa brava y un poco de ali-​oli, y ya digo, de las mejores salsas de este tipo que he probado.
Y, ¿sólo tres estrellas? Pues sí, porque el sitio me pareció bastante estresante y los precios demasiado altos (creo que eran unos 4 € cada bomba). El bar es pequeño y está lleno de mesas también pequeñas muy juntas entre sí, las cuales los ajetreados camareros gestionan con no mucha paciencia, ya que «te regañan» si te sientas sin preguntar. Mucho ruido, camareros con muchas prisas… En fin, no está mal para probar unas bombas ricas, pero no dan ganas de quedarse tranquilamente charlando un agradable rato, sino más bien de engullir la bomba, pagar, y salir corriendo, quizá echando una carrera a uno de los camareros.

Late review. Visited in May, and the place was buzzing even though it was a weekday. Its usually filled with locals rather than tourists, which makes it more authentic! The food was amazing as expected and so were the local beer and wine recommended by the staff. Amazing atmosphere, super friendly staff and to top it all off, authentic catalan dishes. A must visit in my opinion.

Their Bombas are the bomb!
When we arrived, we were so hungry, that I ordered a second plate of bombas, but really, after the padron peppers and mussels, and caracoles (snails), the 2 of us were too stuffed for the second round of bombas. Everything was excellent and flavorful. A bit on the heavy side, because of the potato «bombs» — but they were so good. Not diet food. But still, very good food.
Service can be, how can I put this gently — gruff? But in a somewhat playful way… I guess it depends on who you get. Prices are reasonable, considering the quantity.

Nos encontrábamos en la zona buscando otro local que resultó estar cerrado por vacaciones tras recorrer media Barcelona para llegar a él. Exhaustos, hambrientos y llenos de ira, recalamos en La Bombeta tras leer que servían bravas y unas bombas dignas de Quetzalcoatl.
Aviso: si no te gustan los locales ruidosos, llenos de gente, camareros frenéticos que no paran y ruido, mucho ruido, ni te asomes. A mí, no son los locales que más me llaman, pero tampoco me molesta esa vidilla de los bares movidos.
Una vez dentro, lucha por una mesa, pero no te sientes sin consultarlo, pues los camareros te harán levantarte para sentarte en otra mesa que, a ojos de cliente, es igual a la otra, pero que, a ojos de un camarero, debe ser mejor por alguna extraña y mística razón.
Como os he comentado, pedimos bravas y bombas. La verdad es que tenían un sabor por el que matar. Deliciosas. Las bañan con salsa alioli y brava y, claro, te ponen un cubo debajo por si acaso te emocionas demasiado. Cosa probable.
El punto negativo son los precios, ya que las raciones son escasas y los precios llevan monóculo, usan sombrero de copa y te miran por encima del hombro. Da como cosa.
Visitadlo para comer bravas dignas de Quetzalcoatl y gritar mucho para pedir las cosas.

Lovely place with a very local atmosphere. Very tasty and homely food at decent prices. Very popular during lunch so be prepared to queue and wait.

Fantastic tapas and seafood. We went back for more bombas, patatas bravas, squid, sardines, fried peppers and the very good sangria. Worth the wait! Enjoyed the professional service, piping hot authentic food, cold drinks!

We stopped by for a late lunch on our way to walk around the waterfront and head to the aquarium. When we arrived around 3:00 p.m., the place was packed. As we were waiting in the front area, I saw that several plates were being microwaved before being sent out to customers. There was clearly a kitchen in the back, so I don’t know why they had to microwave food. Not a good sign.
After a bit of a wait, we sat down. The place is small inside, so the tables are tightly packed. It was loud and hard to hear when we were talking to each other. We started off with an order of Bombas. These were very good and the sauce that came with it was a bit spicy, but flavorful. We also ordered the calamari a la Romana, patatas bravas, and chorizo en vino blanco. I think they messed up our order, because we never seemed to get the chorizo dish. Additionally, the waiter gave us a plate of squid that we did not order. All of the food was fried and overly salty. We barely ate any of the other dishes aside from the Bombas as we both started feeling sick from the fried food.
I have had plenty of fried calamari and other seafood before. However, it has not previously made me sick. This is definitely not the best seafood place to eat at. If you want some Bombas (which were microwaved), you’ll like this place. Otherwise, I did not think the food was very good.

You must try the ‘bombas’! Nice service (we had to ask for the check a few times though). Delicious food and good prices!

Très bon, très sympa, sangria parfaite, pas trop sucrée et tous les tapas qu’on a pris (9 en tout) excellents

While I’m not the most superstitious person, sometimes the third time really is a charm. I was extremely hungry and wandering on my first night in Barcelona and had previously tried to get into two very packed spots for dinner. On my third try for hot spots yielded La Bombeta.
Now, that is not to say that La Bombeta wasn’t packed. It was. But, there was one spot open and I was dining solo, so luck was on my side. I sat down and quickly noticed that not a lick of English was being spoken. In that moment I knew I was where I needed to be.
I immediately spied the bombas and patatas bravas. Everything was just working out perfectly and I made sure to order them along with bistec. All of the pictures of the bombas don’t fully express the joy they were to eat. I just had a massive smile on my face as I was eating them. At that point my smile grew even more when I realized that I had patatas bravas right next to them on deck. Some people focus a lot on paella in Barca, me, patatas bravas were my calling. These were rocking and I was doing my best not to eat them too fast. I don’t want to short change the bistec. It was just at the point I started eating my main entrée that I was already a bit full. Good thing this was done beautifully so even though I was forcing it slightly, it was forcing through pleasure.
The best part, was that all of this delicious food was less than € 20. It felt like a steal. Who doesn’t love to have a good meal at a good price? I’m not sure those people exist, and if they do, then they need to comes to La Bombeta to have their opinion changed.

Great food! We has the bombas, chorizo, ham croquettes, bread, Catalan sausage and peppers, beer, coffee and dessert for two people for 35 euro! The food is awesome, great tapas selection, very authentic, and totally with it. Most may walk past it, but the food is fantastic and so reasonable. Definitely will visit again!

Coup de cœur pour cet endroit improbable où j’ai vraiment très envie de retourner !
C’est typiquement espagnol, vous avez peu de chance d’y trouver des touristes, il est bien précisé en grand que le personnel né parle pas anglais, qu’ils n’ont pas le wifi et que vous n’avez qu’à parler entre vous. Déjà ça vous met dans l’ambiance.
Leur spécialité? La bombeta, 2 patatas bravas avec une petite sauce dessus plutôt relevée ! J’ai opté pour la sèche à la plancha, les piquillos frits, le pata negra et les croquetas de jamon (mon péché mignon) c’était absolument délicieux.
Niveau prix, à 3 nous en avons pour 50 € avec les boissons.
Si vous voulez épater vos amis et que vous n’êtes pas du genre à faire des/​trop de manières foncez dans ce restaurant qui diffère tellement des attrapes touristes tout le long de la rue principale (c’est à 50 mètres, en retrait, ça né paye pas de mine etvous né le regretterez pas !)

The bombas from la bombeta was one of my favorite meals in Spain while I lived there this past summer. Upon arrival you realize quickly this isn’t a touristy trap restaurant that’s wildly overpriced like most of places near the beach. This place has no wifi, no English speakers, and nothing luxurious. What it does have is great food and prices. I would recommend it to anyone. Be prepared to speak a little Spanish though

Must try! Simply our best meal in Barcelona. We went there twice and both times we had excellent meals. The place is not pretentious, you get the local experience and great and reasonably priced food.

I was sort of panicked when we first sat down at La Bombeta because we were surrounded by tourists which often isn’t a good sign. Fortunately, I think we were just there slightly early as many Spaniards and regulars started arriving shortly after we were seated.
Our meal was mostly a starch fest: patatas bravas, bombas, croquetas de jamón and pan con tomate to start. Then we got a dish whose name I can’t recall which was essentially beef with pimientos de padrón; once it came out, others around us saw and started requesting the same. It was delicious. The chorizo was also fabulous and not to be missed.

Hands down this place BOMB that’s why its La Bombeta! BTW the staff barely speaks English and they offer a English menu. However I didn’t realize it until we sat down after looking at the menu outside for 10 mins. I can’t express how great the food is at this restaurant. It funny we order so much food for 2 people that the waiter had to stop us! We started off with the potatoes balls (appetizer), shrimp with garlicky oil, mussels, tortilla de Bravas, and calms with white wine sauce. And don’t forget the sangria! If only I knew this place was this good I would eat there everyday! =)

I was there last Monday and tapas here were the best ones of I’ve had in Barselona ! Tomato bread is another success!

Bar muy conocido en el barrio de La Barceloneta de Barcelona, especialmente por sus «famosas» bombas!!!

My best tapas in Barcelona! Of course the bombetas are amazing or as they would call them «cojonudas»! But there is so much more than that on this menu. Incredibly tasty Spanish dishes such as callos a la madrileña, octopus a la gallega, pimientos, chorizo al vino, Spanish tortillas, gambas al ajillo etc. They also have lots of great Spanish wines as well as Cañas (beers). The ambiance is super casual and authentic. Absolutely loved this place!

Bombas are not the only thing on La Bombeta’s menu and there were plenty of gluten free options for me. I ordered of bowl of piping hot steamed mussels, a plate of grilled sardines and some fresh prawns. The service was quick and the vibe was noisy but fun. The prawns were so fresh and crunchy with a strong, rich flavour; these were ones that were good enough to suck the juices out of their heads. Not wanting to miss the opportunity to enjoy such a delicacy, I shamelessly sucked every one noisily while the remaining two tour members in our group looked on in horror.

Sí paseas por la Barceloneta, entra! No te pierdas sus tapas…
Sólo me falta un poquito más de barra para apostarte en ella, hay demasiados sitios que visitar en la Barceloneta como para sentarte en una mesa… jejeje

Pour ceux qui veulent connaître ou apprécier ce qui se fait de plus traditionnel au meilleur sens du terme, je conseille la Bombeta. Évidemment, cela implique un peu de patience, faire la queue à l’extérieur le temps que le patron prenne votre nom puis vous appelle, mais une fois entré, c’est bombance ! Tous les tapas sont aussi bons les uns que les autres, la compagnie des habitués qui vous conseillent aussi. Évidemment, pour ceux qui s’attendent à être traités avec révérence par des serveurs huppés, qu’ils aillent ailleurs. Mais pour ceux qui privilégient leurs papilles et une franche ambiance «della casa», la Bombeta est faite pour vous. Ce restaurant est à Barcelone ce que Bafetto est à Rome.

Lugar que le hace honor a su nombre… las bombas no son muy grandes pero son el plato fuerte de la casa y la salsa que las acompaña está genial, con el punto exacto de picante. El resto de las tapas que probé no eran nada del otro mundo, pero La Bombeta tiene precios decentes y se vive todo es rollo de bar de toda la vida, con los camareros gritando y tratando de comunicarse con los guiris en idioma de señas. Otra cosa… la caña se sirve en jarras y bien frías, como debe ser!

Si, se llama «La bombeta» y no probé su bombas!!! ¿En que mundo vivo?
Este local se esconde bajo el lema: No hablamos inglés pero hacemos unas bombas cojonudas. Tengo que reconocer que hay algo que me tira más que todo eso y son las bravas.
Era la primera vez que venia y no podía irme sin haber probado sus bravas. Las bravas son de TOP, eso si pidete una jarra bien fría de cerveza porque pican lo suyo. Llevan dos salsas y una de ellas es el típico all i oli que repite hasta mañana!

aqui se puede comer las bombas mas picante que nunca he comido en barcelona. y tiene otras tapas muy sabrosas. pero siempre se encuentra la cola.

Si, le doy las cinco etoiles porque para mí es el bar de tapas más carismático del barrio de La Barceloneta y al quién le guste las bombas, su salsa es una pasada porque necesitas un extintor para quitarte el quemor de la boca ó tomarte un tanque de cerveza casi de golpe. Cuando iba de tapeo con los compis y tocaba este barrio, este era mi santuario. Después pasado los años lo recordaba con nostalgia y un día llevé a mi compañera y probó las bombas. No coment.

Ein Insider Tipp für authentische einfache Küche.

Unsere Lieblings-​Tapasbar in Barcelona. Achtung: man spricht ausschließlich Spanisch! Es gibt auch keine anders sprachigen Karten — und das ist auch gut so, weil es so einige amerikanische Reisegruppen abschreckt.
Die Tapas sind durch die Bank oberlecker. Die Preise angemessen bis günstig. Sehr zu empfehlen ist auch der Rioja fuer 12,90 die Flasche.
Ich glaube, wir gehen nachher noch einmal hin. :)

Eine wirklich gute Tapas Bar die auch von vielen Einheimischen heimgesucht wird. Alle Tapas waren top inkl. der Spezialität Bombas. 11EUR für 5 Gambas fand ich etwas überzogen, ansonsten stimmte das Preis-​/​Leistungsverhältnis aber. Wie in Tapas Bars üblich würde ich auf Wein verzichten und zu Cerveza greifen.

Modernes und doch ursprüngliche Tapas-​Bar mit leckerem, frischen Essen und gutem Service! Absolute Empfehlung!

Un clásico de la Barceloneta y un clásico del tapeo… si encuentras sitio, porque ese resulta su mayor problema. Lo mejor en este sentido: cruzar los dedos, a no ser que seais un grupo numeroso porque entonces mejor no intentarlo. Pero si estás de suerte entra sin dudarlo, pues la selección de la carta es de primera. Eso sí, poco a poco el guiri lo está adoptando como «lugar preferente a visitar» en la zona, aunque la parroquia habitual aún le permite mantener la esencia.

Hace unos días estando de tapeo por la Barceloneta recalé en La Bombeta, el típico bar de tapas de toda la vida. Siempre está lleno y como ya va siendo habitual en este sitio, nosotros también tuvimos que hacer cola y apuntarnos en la lista de espera. Una vez dentro nos esperaban mesas separadas las unas de las otras por milímetros, camareros eficientes de los de toda la vida, guiris con la guía en la mano y por supuesto la Bomba. Una bola de patata rellena de carne con salsa brava. En una ración van dos unidades.
El resto de tapas no destacan especialmente.

La bomba, la bomba, para mí, no es. Pero bueno, la bombita, pues igual sí. Sus misiles de patata rellenos de carne, que le han dado la fama, son una contundente fuente de calorías y carbohidratos que precisarán un par de cañas de neutrones para que todo ello pueda ser digerido. Pero, a mi bolsillo no le gustó tener que desprenderse de sus moneditas por las tapas que se movieron por mi mesa. No tanto por la sensación de vacío emocional que dejaron las monedas, más bien por el vacío emocional que dejaron las tapas.

Hier schmeckt alles!
Wer glaubt von Tapas nicht satt zu werden, sollte hier die Hausspezialität «Bomba» probieren — der frittierte Klops aus Kartoffelpüree mit scharfer Sauce — der füllt den Magen richtig.
Feinere Gaumen goutieren die wirklich sehr exzellenten Meeres-​Früchte-​Tapas von Muscheln bis Tintenfisch.
Der Geschmack des Essens abgehoben gut — die Atmosphäre und die Preise bodenständig.Guter Cava!
