located in the raval district, this is the locals tapas bar, where the staff only speaks spanish and serves up very traditional fare. we decided to have lunch here(though it felt more like breakfast/brunch since it was our first meal of the day but jetlag prevented us from waking up sooner). my friend from the states had highly recommended coming here, so we didn’t hesitate to walk in and snag a table for two. it was pretty empty at 13.30 so we had the place to ourselves for a little bit before other customers walked in. i ordered a dish that consisted of scrambled eggs, green onions, and leeks for € 9. although it was called something else, it tasted just like a veggie omelet! great way for me to start my way. hubby ordered a dish with pork chops, sausage and chickpeas for € 9,80…interesting combination! i liked the mediterranean influence here. i don’t eat pork or sausage, so i didn’t touch those, but i tried some of the chickpeas and they were quite tasty as they were grilled with some light seasonings. i also ordered a plate of manchego cheese for € 4,20, very traditional spanish cheese, but it didn’t come until the very end. too bad, since i was planning to have the cheese with my eggs! nevertheless, the cheese was creamy and very savory, and made for a nice finish to a scrumptious meal. service was pretty standard, but a bit of a challenge for us only b/c we didn’t speak spanish. even the word for«check» in spanish was not understood by the waitress so i ended up making a shape of a rectangle with my hands to signal«check please.» she got that one! although we had some trouble communicating, we really enjoyed the food at this locals tapas bar and wouldn’t hesitate to come back. i’ll definitely have to polish up on my spanish before my return visit!

Great wines and spirits. There is a sign that says slow-food, but the food didn’t seem like it was from the slow-food movement. It was VERY slow service, even slow for Barcelona standards. The pasta was delicious, but everything else was very simple, which I wouldn’t have minded except that it cost almost 100 euros for 4 people(which is a lot for the amount and simplicity of food we were served). By the way — for Americans — when it said spanish sausages, cold cuts came out. My suggestion is to go for great glasses of wine or spirits, and maybe the empedrat or pasta.

Mam i Teca, was one of the recommended traditional restaurants to try, which we did. Mam iTeca, is small cosy restaurant. I liked ambience, and the restaurant crew were friendly. Servers all the usual tapas all prepared with locally fresh produce. We had a few different tapas’ and glass of house white each. My favourite was the peppers in olive oil with roasted garlic and the anchoviesThe Spanish lemon cheese cake for dessert was lovely too. It was a cross between a very moist lemon cake to a sticky lemon pudding(in reference to the texture sticky toffee pudding). The sweetest of sugar and sourness of lemon compliments each other flavour really well. Well worth a try. The food was fresh and well prepared. However, we were not blown away by the food. All the reviews I have read online, mentioned that this place is outstanding. The food was good, but not exceptional. I have eaten in a lot places in Spain. I find this restaurant to serve traditional food, good food bur pricey.
