Vegetarian delight in the middle of meat-eater’s heaven. After a few days in Barcelona, having passed so many windows displaying cured meats and salami, we happened upon Maos on La Rambla not far from our hotel. Despite the delicious fare in Barceona, our bodies were craving a veggie-based meal. What a treat! Falafel and all the delectable roasted, steamed, and sauced vegetables you can stuff into a bowl. YUM! The windows opened onto La Rambla so we sat and watched the world go by. A great location with great food. We had to go back for a second time before our time in Barcelona was done because the roasted cauliflower called to us. It was that good. This was the first Maoz we found on the planet and were delighted to find there were more international locations. Big fans! Visited July 2008.

Yes yes, La Rambla is super touristy [with good reason] and you’ve heard from everyone –locals included– that restaurants on this strip should be avoided. True or not, I am writing this review to tell you that Maoz is the exception! Maoz is a small chain restaurant with limited seating. Most likely there will be a line. Most likely the line will spill out on to the streets. You should get on that line and wait patiently. The salad bar alone is out of control! We’re talking cabbage slaw, chic peas salad, couscous, pickles, peppers, carrot salad, fried cauliflower and much more. After your pita pocket is stuffed with hummus and freshly fried falafel, you then have an all access pass to stuff it even more with your hearts desire from the salad bar! Don’t forget to lace it with tahini and/or yogurt sauce. All of that for only 5,90 euros. I’ll repeat — all of that there goodness for only 5,90 euros! This is a steal in Barcelona! After visiting their website I was hella surprised to see that they have tons of locations in NYC/Hoboken. How on earth did I NOTKNOWTHIS?! Oh happy day! Hopefully it’s just as good on my side of the pond. Muchas gracias for putting me on to this gem, Barcelona! Getting there: Metro stop — Liceu [L3/Green line].

This place seriously kicks major booty. I can’t wait until we get a Maoz in L.A. As of right now, I have to go all the way up to Berkeley to get my favorite«Meal Deal.» Seriously, seriously, seriously, everything is bomb at this place. The Belgian fries, the garlic dipping sauce, the falafel sandwich, the salad bar, DAYYYUUMMM! It’s off the hook. Also, they’re open late, really friendly, and super cheap.

Maoz is one of my favorite places on Earth! After discovering my new addiction on La Rambla, I made it my point in life to visit the Maoz Falafel stands in every available city I travel to. I ate Maoz probably twice a week during the summers I spent in Barca. Maoz is as cheap as it gets in the city, hence, the addiction :) The Falafel is hot, fresh and healthy, served in a pita with yummy, creamy hummus inside. Maoz offers a salad bar of fresh ingredients for you to go all Gaudi on your creation and make it magical… pickles, carrots, roasted cauliflower, veggies, and also Tzatziki sauce, Tahini sauce, etc. This place is one tiny hole in the wall and the line can get long, but it is SO worth it! Grab your goodies and find a bench on La Rambla to enjoy your Bomb dot com meal and people watch. When stopped over in Paris years later, I sought out the Maoz Falafel(district 6) and ate there once a day while site seeing. We took the metro completely out of the way to hit this place up and dined among the Norte Dame. EATHERE! GOHERENOW! And send me one… I live in San Diego. Gracias!

Maoz is Falafel Heaven. After having had Maoz in Amsterdam, I vowed to go to Maoz every time I see it. Came here back in 2008 while strolling down La Rambla towards Passeig de Colom, I saw the familiar green/red awning MAOZ. With these visual cues, my stomach secreted some enzymes and some signals were sent to my brain, compelling me to inch closer and closer to the Maoz joint.. .a few minutes later, I found myself inside Maoz handing over 5 euros for some sumptuous, crispy golden brown balls of pure goodness. I ordered in Spanish, the regular falafel sandwich, put my usual salad mix-ins, and sauces and just munched away. Memories of Amsterdam came across my mind. I was in heaven again. Looking back, 5 euros for falafels was about $ 8 or so. I guess you could say one could argue that it was expensive, but at that time, Maoz wasn’t big in the USA, so I knew I had to INDULGE in this luxury. Maoz can never really do you wrong wherever you are. I’ve been to a few Maozes around the world, and the quality is excellent at every location. The La Rambla location is no exception. The only difference between the Maozes throughout the world is the language of operation — be in Dutch, Spanish, English, etc. It’s really easy to get here – it’s between the Catalunya and Liceu stops. Get off and look for the green/red sign +/-the delicious smells of ground, fried chickpeas diffusing in the air. I love vegetarian food! I love falafels!!!

Quick, easy and freshly made falafel — completely vegetarian and always yummy. Located right on the La Rambla, it’s a no-brainer go-to place for vegetarians. I was lucky to have this one close to where I was staying, so my cravings for falafel were easily taken care of. As with their other locations, there’s limited seating — but why bother? Get your falafel with the fixings from the salad bar and take a stroll along the La Rambla!
