Located in Mercat de la Boqueria. It has tables and chairs inside and out of the restaurant, unlike all the pintxo bar places in the Mercat that are crammed with tourists and people who refuse to yield their seats when finished so they can smoke 4 – 5 cigarettes after eating a plate of smelt. Sukaldari has one of the best salads we ate in Spain. The other dishes they serve are very good and at reasonable prices. This comparison is done with the knowledge that no one is going to get great cuisine along La Rambla — it is just a giant tourist trap street and it traps thousands of tourists every day. Visitors to Barcelona who think they are going to get a fantastic, authentic Spanish meal along La Rambla are just plain ignorant(perhaps stupid). If you want to fabulous pinxtos and tapas you need to snoop around the Metro station of Jaume 1 or the Picasso musuem in the gothic section of the city.

Sukaldari is a super casual restaurant located right on La Rambla not far from one of Mercat de la Boqueria, one of the main food markets of Barcelona, which I would assume accounts for their extremely fresh seafood as well as their more than reasonable prices. The culinary techniques of the food preparation are not all that notable, but for the class of casual restaurant that it is, pretty good. We ordered the seafood platter for two, which not only included lobster and shrimp but just about every other seafood one might desire. The portion was huge and done in most appealing presentation. Our service was also top notch and as a suggestion, don’t bother ordering wine by the bottle as their house wines and sangrias are both outstanding for the price.

Long story short this restaurant is horrible. Do not eat here. Let me make a pro and con list. Pros: restaurant looks good, the seafood rice dish is decent, sangria is alright too. Cons: Jesus where should I begin. First of all it is intensely hot in there. While we were sitting we saw several families come and go just because the heat was that intense. The food service is slow and many items on the menu do not have prices and are very expensive. $ 7.50 for a beer is ridiculous and is not on the menu. The fried calimari also did not have a price tag and turned out to be a whopping 18 dollars. It was not even good. You would think after such a long wait it would at least be hot… wrong. It was cold. This restaurant is extremely expensive and the food is bad at best. In conclusion do not eat here. You have been warned.

Located at the front of the open market in The Ramblas one would expect to pay a little more. However, the service was outstanding and the food delicious. I had the garlic chicken with little perfectly fried potatoes. My wife had the grilled prawns. They were fresh and done to perfection. Sitting outside on a beautiful afternoon made this a perfect spot.

It’s really the worst restaurant I’ve met during this trip, from Paris to Tours and to Lyon and then to Barcenola. At first, I want go to another restaurant in a alley near Ramble Street. But it’s 10:00pm and the alley looks so quite, I turned out for the security consideration, because I’m alone. So I choose a restaurant just by the roadside. It looks no bad out from the door. Another reason is that these days almost all the restaurant I went was recommed by Unilocal or by some local residents, so I was thinking that how bad it would be if I found a restaurant randomly. Unfortunately, it’s really very bad. I seat there for several minutes and no one noticed me. The tapas are made long time before. The the bread is dry and solid, the mussel still had sand. They were heated by the microwave after you ordered, all tasted bad. The price is high according to the bad quality.

its service made me disappointed. I don’t understand the Spanish so I cannot make sure the local people’s comments about this restaurant, but the only thing I know is that all the customers I met yesterday are foreigners. All of our faces showed expectations while the dishes came slowly and the deals are small, the price is higher than average. I dislike the service and I really don’t recommend this restaurant.

Came here when the places I had Unilocaled at the mercat de la boqueria were closed. BIGMISTAKE. First of all, we saw outside that there was an option for 10.95 for a tapa and an individual portion of paella. When we were taken inside the restaurant, they said that was incorrect. Should have been our first warning to leave. We order paella(18.46) anyway, an asparagus appetizer(14.41), and grilled squid(14.65). 45 minutes later, our food finally came, but not before tables who ordered similar items after us were served first. The squid was pretty good but tiny portioned and not worth almost 15 euros. The paella was too wet and tasted as if they had poured half a cup of salt in it. And the asparagus was absolutely disgusting. It tasted like it had come out of a can and was completely soft and mushy. It came with a side of mayo. And lastly, there were five pieces on the plate. For almost 15 euros. That comes out to 3 euros per piece of disgustingly mushy, un-fresh asparagus. Bottom line, STAYFARAWAY!

Stay away from this place. Boyfriend and I came this direction on a Sunday with our hearts set on getting jamon and juice at the Mercat de la Boqueria before going to some museums. The Mercat was closed and I was absolutely starving so I made the poor decision to come here. The place itself was full of tourists. Service was really pushy as well. We ordered eggs with ham, a tapa, and two drinks. Total came out to be 25 euros. 25 euros for the worse meal I had in Barcelona. Don’t go here walk down the street past the boqueria if you’re ever around here looking for food and the market is closed. There are so many more options. You can definitely find yourself a better meal in this area for 25 euros.

Microwaved Food! Our waiter forgot about us and so when our food finally arrived it was cold. His solution? Toss it in the microwave on HIGH and send our plate back to us steaming hot with everything on the plate hard and dry. Spend your money and time elsewhere. Oh, and to top it off he kept hinting at us to tip him for the«service». Stay away!

First night in Barcelona, and I’m craving some Spanish food! Where is it at? As a tourist, my first thought was a stroll down Barcelona’s famous Las Ramblas street. It’s an amazing street full of shops, restaurants, and a few interesting characters here and there. My family and I stumbled across this place while just walking around and looking at different menus, somehow sat at the very top floor of the restaurant. At first there was no one, but eventually, people were brought upstairs(mainly other tourists) — I was already sensing TOURISTTRAP! The one thing I knew I wanted was the Seafood Paella, and I saw another table have it, and was so excited to have it. We were lucky enough to get the manager to take our order and really give us a gist of the items they have — my mom did something dangerous and asked him to give us recommendations, one thing led to another, and next thing we know he basically ordered everything for us and put in 8 dishes into the kitchen… in my head, I was thinking«$$$$» — we fell for the tourist trap. Don’t get me wrong the food was great, we had various tapas, paella, calamari, and a seafood platter. I really enjoyed the seafood platter and tapas but the paella was so wet and the calamari was so salty. The service was pretty good as the food came out in waves(Spanish culture enjoys taking time to eat) which I also like too. The bill came out to $ 130 — although not mind boggling, this was definitely more than what we would’ve like to spend on a dinner. I only say that now because, all the other nights past this night, we’ve been able to eat for about half the price and for better tasting food.

I had to create a Unilocal account just to rate this place and warn people! If I could give it «0» stars or in fact negative stars I would! Three friends and I walked into this restaurant on a Monday 7÷7÷14 at 14:33. We had been told by friends to try paella in Spain because it was suppose to be amazing, we were so excited to try some and saw that this place served it. We placed an order for paella, potatoes, and water, then asked for coffee but was told that because they were so busy they weren’t serving any. Then right after the couple next to us ordered coffee and got it with no problem! What the hell! Then they brought the water bottles to our table but took about 15minutes before they brought us glasses to drink out of. Then about 30 minutes after that we finally got the vegetable and seafood paella but still no potatoes. We went to eat the paella and it was COLD! Who knows how long it had been sitting out before it was brought to our table!!! We finally finished the paella and had still not received the potatoes, we then called the waiter over and told him we wanted to cancel the order because it was taking to long and he responded by saying that we should have told him earlier to cancel the order because they were ready. We told the guy that they were appetizers and should have come before the paella and he said no it’s not an appetizer then we asked why it didn’t come with the other food, he had no response. So we waited about 15 more minutes and still no potatoes after he had said they were ready!!! Then we asked for the check because we had to go and he said that he would cancel the potatoes– really!!! This is the WORST service I have EVER received at a restaurant anywhere in the world! I will definitely never be returning here! Also the paella wasn’t that great, maybe because it was cold? I don’t know…

We had an early dinner here the day we arrived in Barcelona and would recommend it to other travelers both for its location at the edge of the market and the food, particularly the paella. The service was a bit spotty, and diners outside are allowed to smoke, but all in all it was a good experience.

I was VERY hungry by the time I got to La Rambla — no restaurant was looking very trustworthy(If a waiter is holding a menu begging you to eat inside — I don’t trust you). There was another one down the street with an outside and an inside part that was trash talking a neighbouring establishment. That’s another sign of sketchiness. But I digress. Sukaldari looked the best out of them all in terms of presentation so we decided after a long walk of browsing to come back here. We got the pintxos sampler and a paella. The paella was a little too salty and only had one shrimp on it. The waiter wasn’t very attentive to us, and I think he didn’t want to deal with foreigners. They also presumed we didn’t want to watch the football match so they seated us away from the party. Very very meh, average. At least you won’t be poisoned eating here, but it was a forgettable experience.

First meal in BCN. That day we arrived early to check-in our apartment, so I told the cab driver to take me right away to La Rambla for food. Tapa: sour, salty and spicy. Perfect for appetizer Paella: First time paella AKA first meal in Spain. It was not bad not good. The waitress kindly helped us coping with the hot rice. Big shrimp, squid and shells were tasty. Chulet òn de Buey: It was yummy and smoky. The potato was very sticky, soft and tasty with onion sauce. Enjoyed this dish a lot when we both were hungry after a flight. Pan con Tomate: very typical Spanish food. 1st time to try this. Coco Helado: my dessert, it was very tasty with a strong smell of coconut and also contains a bit coconut pulp, though the ice-cream was a little too creamy. Mousse de Chocolate: Carry’s dessert, which was sweet, creamy and yum.

Unbelievable, a glass of ice tea 5,50, half a beer for 3,50 and the service probably the slowest I’ve come across. They charged«taxes» on the bill(«price don’t include taxes» at the bottom of the menu) and the food was good but way too expensive. Not worth the treat.

I wanted to have a tapes experience in La Boqueria but we ended up here and it was fantastic. The paella was so good(I was looking forward to this forever; eating paella in Spain) and the service was super. My only complaint was that the gazpacho was super expensive. Even still I would recommend this restaurant.

We were hoping to have lunch at the market but our spot was packed. I started with gazpacho which was good and served with some small crustinis for texture. I had it the day before on the train and it came from a carton. Definitely an upgrade but could have been better Followed up with Paella Mariscos and it again was OK, but I’ve had better. The rice had a great flavor of saffron but was a bit too mushy. The shrimp were overcooked and did not compliment the dish. Good service and not a bad spot if you find yourself cruising La Rambla.

This restaurant is in a very touristy area(think Fisherman’s Wharf in SF), but the food is fantastic, the service is excellente(pretty much EVERYONE in Spain is very nice, and service anywhere is great). On the exterior this place isn’t much to look at and the décor is very simple, almost theme-restaurant-ish, except it’s not a theme b/c it’s in Spain and it’s Spanish(Basque to be specific). The prices are reasonable 15 – 20 Euros per dish/entrée and very tasty. Give this spot a try!
