Service is a bit slow today… And welcome is not so joyful. This place will always be special to me but I think it’s time to move on.

It was our first time visiting Barcelona and we hit a jackpot with this place!!!
This place was recommended by our airbnb host. It was thriving with all the amazing smells, people catching up after work and some great cava.
We loved this place would be such an understatement :)
Everything we laid our hands on (food) was amazing. They had an English Menu, the waiters were ready to help and answer questions, the drinks were amazing, the food was soo rightly priced and tasted perfect, nothing more we could ask for.
Their bravas are a must try along with the super famous peppers.
They had an extensive sea food menu but since none of the others in my group have seafood I only had 2 tapas. The fried anchovies were worth a try.
We infact ended up going twice to this place in the 2 days we stayed in Barcelona.

This institution in Barcelona is still going pretty strong. I have come here for as long as I can remember but usually not because it is the best place but the fact that they are open late, have decent food and with no reservations it may be a bit of a wait but it is almost always possible to get a table fairly fast.
It’s not the place to go for fantastic food but they serve up some decent tapas and the price level is acceptable. Beer selection is limited and basically all from local brewer Moritz who own this place so expect boring selection of standard lagers.
The service is usually fast and while not really friendly they are efficient and English speaking so this place remains one of my go to places as a back-​up when hungry. I try to avoid at peak times as the wait can then be a bit longer bit they are a solid option.

Came here for a early dinner and wasn’t disappointed at all. Calamari sandwich was good and so was the macaroni au gratin that my mom had. We sat outside and yes it’s on a busy street but the people watching made up for the traffic.

Hubby and I stopped in here for a late lunch. Food was delicious, service was great, and we really enjoyed the interior. I’m surprised they don’t have a higher star rating — we liked it!
It was not dirt cheap, but it was definitely affordable, especially considering the quality of food. There are a lot of regulars and locals in there too, which is always a good sign of authenticity.

It’s hard to find a place that’s opened all day to eat! So it’s great that El Velodromo opens at 1300 to 0100.
Food is great, they have a variety of local plates.
It’s a beautiful restaurant and they have terrace options.

Had an amazing brunch there! The staff were pretty friendly too :)

Un lugar increíble por su decoración, atención y calidad de su comida.
En plena calle Muntaner rodeándose de buenas tiendas, restaurantes y a poca distancia del metro.
Sus altos techos no te dejan indiferente. Lugar elegido por cantidad de barceloneses para reunirse y disfrutar de unas cañas.
Un lugar al que sin duda volveré!

So good we came back! An excellent Priorat wine, Reflexe for 18 €?! Wow. The beef with chimichurri was outstanding — perfectly cooked with that amazing spice. Patatas Bravas and all the usual tapas at a great price, with excellent service. Might make it back a 3^rd time during our 5 day stay.

Food and wine was fine, nice little place for a drink any day of the week. But, the service is lacking, being a little more attentive and polite would go a long way for the waiters here.

The Irish coffee and tiramisu were amazing, and the staff deserved 5 stars. Very polite and helpful. Very nice experience.

Tapas were good. Don’t eat the Rustic Noodle Casserole unless you like blood sausage and it doesn’t look very appetizing.

Descubierto en un viaje de trabajo. El lugar es estupendo y muy bonito, me comentaron que era de toda la vida pero que había cambiado de dueño.
Me encanto su ambiente y su comida. Bastante asequible. Muy céntrico

We had breakfast here and it was reasonably priced. I had fries, ham, eggs, toast and jam, and café con leche for about 8 euros. Coffee was quite flavorful but I’m from the U.S. where coffee is just brown water. Ambiance and service were both excellent!

Drinks aren’t bad but food isn’t up to par. Had the steak tartare and it was really really bad. Had a funny taste to it and when I sent it back to get it re-​done the bad taste was still there. Didn’t want to complain again so just asked for the check away. The waitress obviously knew I wasn’t happy but just ignored the situation anyways. My hubby got a burger that was mediocre but he happily ate that over my tartare. I’m very unhappy cuz that steak tartare was 18 euros and with the exchange rate to dollars that’s about $ 27 today.

La decoración muy cuidada. Las tapas normales, sin descatar en exceso. Se puede ir pero no te iras sorprendido.

My family of four came here twice during our one week trip to Barcelona, and I really loved it. The building itself is a lovely example of restored art deco architecture and design. It’s large and spacious — you are close enough to neighboring tables to be friendly, but not too close.
The menu is varied and covers all the best Barcelona basics. We had eggs, tapas, churros dipped in melted chocolate, pastries, sausages, coffees, etc. and everything was very good.
The service is also top notch, but we found this to be the case throughout Barcelona. The wait staff was friendly and patient with our lack of Spanish, and they were gracious with our stumbling and fumbling.
Definitely worth a trip — for the food, drinks, and people watching.

Superbe brasserie à Tapas, sur deux étages. Des tapas classiques mais vraiment bonnes. Des portions moyennes mais au prix raisonnable. Le personnel est top et nombreux, service rapide. Ambiance sympa et bonne adresse !

Lo mejor de Velódromo es el ambiente, siempre esta lleno de gente, a todas horas. En un sitio al que puedes ir a desayunar, a comer, a cenar… en cualquier momento. La carta es muy amplia y literalmente hay de todo. Des de platos típicos caseros (los macarrones están para morirse) hasta ensaladas y sandwiches para tipo día para comida ligera. La calidad de la comida es excelente. Uno de mis platos favoritos es el steak tartare, lo sirven con patatas fritas y pan y mantequilla. Es exquisito! De los mejores que he probado! Los postres también son riquísimos y tienes una gamma de pasteles hechos por May Hoffman.
Sin duda de mis restaurantes favoritos de Barcelona.

Un local con buen ambiente y con mucho encanto. Con decoración con marquesinas lámparas de araña, madera, balaustradas que dan cierto aire del siglo pasado. Si estas por la zona es aconsejable para tomar algo. Para comer encuentro precios excesivos y raciones pequeñas, pero el ambiente compensa. Por las mañanas para tomar y café es ideal, más tarde para aperitivo también es válido. Vale la pena hacer una visita aunque se pague un poco más

Mola venir a este sitio porque se nota que es un lugar con solera nada más cruzar la puerta. A mí me encantan las lámparas y las enormes cristaleras a la calle.
Es una buena opción para desayunar el finde mientras lees el periódico con calma. Si quieres ir por la tarde/​noche, tendrás que esperar un ratito en la barra con una Moritz. Si vas a picar, prueba sus bravas y el carpaccio de buey.
Eso sí, es algo caro así que mira bien los precios antes de quedarte a cenar. Mejor opción es desayunar o sólo tomar una caña.

I expected a little more ambiance since the place is so old and storied… supposedly intellectuals and revolutionaries met here once upon a time, but you wouldn’t necessarily know it.
The space is nice, open and airy with a classic looking bar and a well dressed waiter running from table to table. The menu is extensive, but also really quite expensive for what it is — appetizers around € 11, main dishes around € 25, some tapas between € 7 – 10, as well as a list of more casual sandwiches. I went with a club sandwich which was toasty and tasty but just note QUITE worth € 6.80 — considering the sparse amount of filling in the sandwich and no accompaniments. The other, smaller sandwich, which my boyfriend got, comes at a slightly lower € 4. This seems like a deal until you see that it’s a finger sandwich, literally about half the size of my palm, on soft white bread, not unlike a tea sandwich (in the idea of British high tea) but an oblong rectangle rather than a mini wedge. If you’re not too hungry and don’t mind paying more than normal, come here! Otherwise I think there are other places to be had.

El Velodromo es un restaurante ideal para ir en fuera de horas de cocina… cuando todos o la mayoría de cocinas están cerradas ellos continúan sirviendo comidas, al salir de un concierto perfecto para matar el gusanillo, o por la mañana si se te ha hecho de día y quieres contrarestar tu estado para dormir o pasar el día siguiente en unas condiciones mejores… tienen tapas para la resaka… la cocina es bastante básica … bravas… jamón… pimientos del padrón… tortilla… pulpo… a mi me gusta y también llevo a amigos asiáticos que me visitan…

I came here for breakfast early morning on a weekday and it was perfect.
I suggest the coffee con leche. I usually take my coffee black, but decided to try their con leche. It was amazing. I’m still craving it. It had a really nice balance and great flavor.
I consider myself a croissant snob — and I have to say their croissants are up there with the best I’ve had. Super crispy/​flakey outer crust and a moist inside.
Contrary to other reviews, I actually quite like the atmosphere at this place. I don’t know what it’s like later in the day, but early in the morning it fits my image of a fancy euro café.
I read somewhere that it is also the site of several secret political meetings during the spanish civil war. which is pretty cool.

This is one of those «always open» places and is not my first choice at peak times, but not a bad fallback when there is not a lot open. It’s the perfect place for a hangover.
The gran-​jero sandwich is amazing (it’s just like a club sandwich, but better). The patatas braves is small, but a great side. Coffee is decent.
It is very open and does not really have any type of atmosphere to speak of, although I will say the décor is nice and welcoming.

El Velódromo es un restaurante/​bar de copas mítico en la ciudad. Situado en Muntaner tocando a la Diagonal, siempre suele estar lleno y eso que el local no es pequeño. Lo reformaron hace ya algún tiempo pero sigue conservando su esencia. Moritz compró el lo compró hace algún tiempo, por eso la cerveza que sirven es de esta casa que a mi personalmente me encanta; en el Velódromo fue donde probé por primera vez la Moritz doble malta. Tienen una carta de tapas que está bastante bien y la que más me gustó fue la de bravas. También dispone de una pequeña terraza con unas dos o tres mesas en la que se está muy a gusto. Eso sí, los precios son algo caros pero es una buena opción si estás por la zona.

No sabes muy bien porqué pero ves algo especial en este local. Clásico pero moderno, muy buena comida y buen ambiente. Muy recomendable para ir con amigotes.

La omnipresente marca cervecera Moritz dio un potente cambio de timón para borrar la histórica etiqueta de «bar-​canalla-​pero-​de-​clase-​alta» que pesaba sobre el local. En mi opinión, como en otras millonarias intervenciones en locales de la citada marca (Ocaña, Fàbrica Moritz…), el continente está muy conseguido (incluso espectacular), pero el contenido no llega al nivel esperado. ¿Por qué?
–Los precios: me parecen excesivos para las cantidades de las raciones. Algunas deberían venir acompañadas de un microscopio electrónico.
–Reinventar la sopa de ajo: a ver, que las tapas son de alta calidad y tal, pero bueno, que estás sirviendo bravas, boquerones, calamares… no esferificación de cubos Maggi. Esto no es ninguna novedad y tampoco justifica esos precios, por muy zona pija que sea.
–El ambiente: durante el día no está mal, pero por la noche se masifica y no queda nada de su espíritu inicial. Por más que restaures la escalera o mantengas el billar, me parece que no se debería vaporizar el valor inmaterial histórico del establecimiento. Me parece, sencillamente, otro restaurante moderniqui de tapillas en el cual se agolpa la gente a hacer cola porque es cool, está de moda o, le trae recuerdos de la juventud.
Os recomiendo: si hay un agujerillo en la barra, pedíos una microtapa de sus deliciosas bravas y una caña pequeña de Epidor. Y ya está.

I would like my steak medium please. Spain is a huge country full of delicious food. It is crazy you get a croquetta for example in Barcelona, then order one in Madrid and they are totally different. In some cases its a whole other type of food. Velodromo was walking distance from my hotel during my stay and it seemed like a logical choice. The restaurant itself is very spacious and has a pool table too. Once I got the menu in castellano I was able to order. In Barcelona they speak a different dialect than ordinary spanish and its it tough to understand. We started our meal with some Calamari, and some cheese and prosciutto. then came a nice steak cooked medium of course with pretty much no seasoning. It was the best steak I have had. The service was great. Barcelona itself is amazing and I recommend everyone to go and eat at Velodromo

Trendy little bar located in an alley way in the L’Eixample district. It has a dark ambiance with a dash of alternative flavor — the owners are apparently from LA. We sat at the bar and had some sangria. They were probably the best we had in Barcelona.

Cené aqui anoche por la segunda vez y, como hace 6 meses, la calidad de la comida fue alta, muy alta. Desafortunadamente el precio puede ser alto también. Lo peor fue 6 euros para alrededor de 100 gramos de ternera! Los otros platos — está vez comimos solo patatas bravas, aceitunas, croquetas de jamón, tiras de pollo «estilo Lolita» — estaban muy ricos y la relación calidad precio mejor.
Las bebidas tuvieron un buen precio.
El servicio fue, por lo menos para nosotros, escondidos en la esquina, lento pero bastante amable (y el camarero nos regaló un platillo de almendras).
En breve, es más caro que un tapas bar normal pero la calidad es más alta.

not intimate or cozy though.
it was bright and cheery actually
with a french flair (and we all know how much I LOVE Paris)

Todo parecía perdido cuando El Velódromo original cerraba sus puertas en el año 2000. Pero hace unos años reabrió con fuerza (gracias al apoyo de Cervezas Moritz) y enseguida ha recuperado la fama de antaño, con sus desayunos suculentos, sus tapas marca de la casa y su carta con sabor tradicional (la cocina está abierta todo el día, así que no hay excusa para no sentarse y comer bien). Sin olvidar que ha mantenido intacto el billar que le dio pedigrí y la misma decoración de sus años dorados. Un sitio muy popular y a tener en cuenta por su ubicación en la calle Muntaner, justo al lado de la Avenida Diagonal. Realmente se come bien en el Velódromo.

Este local es espectacular, yo fui a desayunar, y poder hacerlo escuchando Chet Baker de fondo y rodeada de arquitectura modernista es un puntazo para un domingo por la mañana, y no sé si es la mejor manera de empezar el día, el tío no era la alegría de la huerta (Chet Baker), pero de todas formas, la tortila con pan con tomate, el zumo y el café con leche me dieron la vida, y sí, la belleza es necesaria para la felicidad, en lo que podemos discrepar es en lo que es o no bello. Personalmente recomiendo hacer un desayuno, una copa o una comida en el Velódromo.

Hará dos años que se reabrió estel emblemático Bar después de una larga remodelación de la mano de la cervecera Moritz, propietaria actual del Velódromo.
Punto de encuentro nocturno de los barceloneses «niños bien», por allí se había visto varias veces a la Infanta Cristina, junto a conocidos navegantes olímpicos.
Marcó una época, en la que era difícil que hubiera barceloneses que no pasado a tomar una copa por allí, más tarde o más temprano.
En la actualidad, con su remodelación y la contratación de un reputado chef, Carles Abellán buscan captar aquel público que trabaja por la zona (además de seguir siendo bar de copas por la noche), ofreciéndole sabrosos platos o platillos para compartir, a precio razonable. Buenísimo el pan con chocolate y sal, ¡te sorprenderá!.
