I ordered the alpino which has beef, onions, and cheese. It was smaller than I expected. The sandwich itself was pretty good. The waitress was a bit off putting, but the food made up for it. Everything in the menu was about 7 euros or less so that’s a big plus being on a budget.

This nice little sandwich place very near La Boqueria is a gem. A friendly and tranquil respite from the hustle and bustle of La Rambla just outside its front door. Classical music plays in the background as you are nourished. The NY Times really isn’t overblowing its designation of their Iberico de gla as «the world’s greatest sandwich»…for it is right up there. Any good sandwich must stand on its bread and this crusty, narrow«flauta»(a thin baguette) stands its ground with any other. The jamon Iberico is a meat unlike anything you come across in the states. …An earthy pork taste that’s otherworldly. The only dressing for the sandwich is the tomato spread. As with the standard European approach(read vs. U.S.) the goal is excellence of ingredients… not weight. Fantastico. I’m certain their other offerings are just fine too.

Our first experience with Jamon Iberico came from our Spanish friend who filled his entire suitcase with it when travelling back to London for school. After trying we knew this stuff was special. He told us while in Spain to check out Vienna and to try the«Flouta de Jamon Iberico.» Needless to say, it was amazing. This meat looks like prosciutto but has a much deeper and richer flavor. The flavor has a hint of nuttiness but also tastes creamy at the same time. This is an absolute must try while in Spain, especially because the price of this ham is extremely expensive in other parts of the world.

I came here for a jamon iberico baguette sandwich, and it was quite delicious! A lot of the jamon iberico was overly fatty, but I guess that’s expected. The tomato spread was a great touch to the sandwich, and it made it less dry. My favorite part was the bread, which was surprisingly crunchy on the outside and soft inside. I thought the jamon iberico could have had more flavor, but maybe that’s just how it is. The sandwich is greatly overpriced though at € 6.75 for one; it could be for a snack, yet who spends that much on a snack?! Anyway, good place to try and have once in a while.

Cute little diner that seems to specialize in french baguettes and sandwiches. I had a panini with roast beef that was pretty good. My wife’s tuna baguette was definitely better than mine though. Good bread and a well put together sandwich. Also pretty cheap for what you get.

The Iberian hamburger with Brie was worthwhile. The salads are pre made(just an FYI), the beer is good and the service was quick and friendly.

one of the few early sun morning shops since nobody really wakes early. Jamon iberico tomate rub baguette– wish it was warmer with manchego but otherwise a nice sandwich on good bread. have had similar/better in MIA. al forno grilled cheese with pernil style was a bit greasy but good for a quick snack

The thing I like most about Barcelona is if you get out and explore you find the best things. This morning instead of eating at my hotel, I ventured out and walked and walked till I was standing in front of Viena. It has an old timey look so I Unilocaled it and decided to eat here. To my delight, I ate the best egg sandwich I have ever eaten!

The Best Jamon Iberico Flauta in Barcelona and very good café con leche as well. This has to be Las Ramblas best eatery with the best prices. The sandwich has tremendous flavor and the bread, what can I say, great flavor and crunchy. No one item in this sandwich overwhelms, is a great meal.

Charming old place. Simple beautiful«flautes»(baguette sandwiches). No. Nonsense place that appears not to have changed all that with the times. Everything was fresh as can be. The only place we saw the croissants come out of the oven and onto our plate at breakfast time. The Iberian pork«Alpino» sandwich also deserves a mention. Also not too expensive.

One of my favorite sandwiches ever! A simple toasted crusty baguette rubbed with tomato and garlic and filled with jamon iberico for 6.75EUR. I love simple, delicious foods and this is absolutely amazing.

A decent joint without tourist prices right in the middle of tourist central, La Ramblas. Cheap sandwiches and cheap beer; a match made in heaven.

I used to live in Barcelona and I recently came back to visit and I still miss this place as much as ever. One of my biggest regrets from living in Spain is that for all the time I lived there, I didn’t discover this place until about a month or two before I was scheduled to move home. To this day, I dream about this sandwich. In these dreams, I usually find myself back in Barcelona and end up on a quest to make it to Café Viena for the«ham sandwich». Believe the hype. There is something about the«secret» way they cook the bread(SOCRUNCHY on the outside, yet soft and doughy on the inside) combined with the light tomato spread, the olive oil drizzle and of course, the Jamon Iberico/Jabugo de Bellota, which is the star of the show. The«flauta d’ibéric d.o. jabugo» certainly lives up to the hype and more. Don’t judge a book by its cover, as this place looks so non-descript from the street, you might never know inside they definitely do have my favorite sandwich in the world. 5 stars as sandwiches don’t get better than this anywhere on earth.

I had the NYT sandwich and while I won’t go into detail(the folks below me have already done a great job), I will say that it is absolutely divine and definitely worth the € 6,75. The fries are also very good, and perhaps better because they give you a tiny fork to eat them with. I love tiny utensils because they make my hands look big and then I feel like a giant. Anyways, this place is super busy even at weird times so I wouldn’t recommend coming here with more than one or two friends, or get takeaway. Viena is a great stop for a simply delicious lunch!

Saw this place on a travel show just before we left USA and it happens to be very near our hotel. I popped in by myself while the hubby was at an event, and they were most welcoming, to even a single lady. The man at the bar was very attentive and promptly handed me a menu, took my order, provided the sandwich and the bill in a smooth pleasant manner. I had the Mark Bittman favorite sandwich and I loved it.(the flauta pernil d’ibéric d.o. jabugo. The flauta is a flute — the name for a bread that we might call a small sub, or a long roll). Iberico ham is a Spanish salt cured ham. It is produced exclusively from black Iberian pigs fed on a diet of acorns. The bread is rubbed with tomato and is crunchy, crispy goodness. The Vienna salad was served in a plastic sealed container with a plastic fork, which was bit disconcerting. I guess this is a fast food kinda place, in a charming venue? The coffee came with complimentary cookies. I will go back and get a few for plane ride home!

one happy gluten free girl Ok so it’s basically like a really fancy McDonald’s but its pretty dang good. I am gluten free so was overjoyed to find a place literally next to my hotel that had so many gluten free options including bread. Note it’s called celiac here they don’t recognize gluten free. Also the gf bread wasn’t hard and didn’t break apart like most it was amazing! I am from the states and found the prices decent bc in the states there is in up charge for gluten free at alot of places but not here. It’s worth checking out if your looking for a sandwich. I spend 11 euro on 2 sandwiches and 2 fries

I thought I would never eat another sandwich as delicious as Ike’s Place sammies in the bay area(still have yet to find anything as good in NYC), but the ham sandwich at Café Viena gets close. My boyfriend insisted that we come here after he read Mark Bittman’s «best sandwich in the world» review. For such a simple formula — just ham with some mayonnaise on bread — the sandwich tasted much better than I would have expected. Definitely check it out — maybe not the best sandwich in the world, but no doubt great for its simplicity. We also got some fries — nothing to gloat about. The ham sandwich is where it’s at.
