IHOP

Wife wanted pancakes with her breakfast and we were on the south side of town. IHOP was near our next stop. Cleanliness 5/​5, service 4/​5, food delivered in spurts. Let me explain. Coffee and water showed quickly. Order taken. First out eggs and meats were delivered. Then as we were finishing the plates, here came a stack of pancakes… about 10 minutes after our food. Then after all was finished, our servings of Grits came. Oh, they were hot. But we had to ask for butter. Each part was good, but waiting for the whole order was weird and off putting. Just to Top it off, we had to wait to check out, cashier had locked up her machine… seriously, they have staff, tables, menus… but, they need kitchen help and Management presence.

IHOP is good but overpriced. I paid 15 dollars today for just myself. That’s crazy. The food is amazing, the service is great, but the place was a bit grubby. The prices are just too expensive for basic products.

The most disgusting restaurant I have ever been in. I would be totally embarrassed if I was the manager or owner of this franchise! The floors are completely dirty, they are undermanned, and the food was unfit! Kudos to Chris because he realized what was going on but try to keep a cool head and keep us satisfied. Thank you Chris. Please, do not even give this place a chance you will be totally unsatisfied and disappointed.

Another chain where you know what you are going to get, no matter which city you are in. Could have had a cleaner table as crumbs and other unknown substances were at the end of the table were the syrups and sugar sit.

I went to this IHOP for about six months straight on a daily basis for a client of mine. Though I now cook for him, I wanted to review this location because I know just how hard the servers and hosts really work. Two women, both heavily pregnant, worked their tails off all the way up to their due dates. Any time an order took too long or was incorrect, the entire bill was comped. The errors might be tough for them to iron out, but they really are trying and they do handle any issue a customer may have without question or complaint. Give them a chance to get better, because I really think they can continue to improve.

I ordered the two-​egg breakfast that came with two pieces of bacon and hash browns. Eggs were cooked to order (over-​easy) and were tasty, as was everything else. My dining partner got different waffles than what was ordered. Waiter never came back after food was delivered except to drop off the check… my beverage had to be rationed.

What can i say about IHop?
Let me start by saying I am NO breakfast fan, therefore I will NEVER find time to assign a 5-​star-​review to an establishment that has made their business over selling breakfast 24÷7…
Having said that, it was part of our routine to go to IHop for breakfast on the day of each other’s birthday… normally it would be a week/​school day. but, getting up @5:30 AM to have some pretty good pancakes with with fresh strawberries, french toast, hash browns, crispy bacon with some nice coffee was a good change of pace.
So, why just 3-​stars? Because service is hit or miss with this place. And, you best hope they aren’t too busy or you may risk being late or getting subpar service/​food.
So, i have decided to assign a 3 star as a sign of good faith… we all have bad days.

If you are in any kind of a hurry at all AVOID this place. Our waitress was kind and relatively prompt but the kitchen here is awful. We waited well over an hour after our order was placed before any food showed up. The place was surprisingly crowded for such slow service. I promise I will never be back.

We waited over 30 mins for our food which was barely warm by the time we got it. The place MAYBE had five tables to wait on in the whole restaurant. The waitress dropped another tables order and then the other people had to stand and wait awhile for someone to come up to the cash register to even pay their bill. The food wasn’t even very good tasting. I got four pieces of bacon with my meal they were paper thin and in every other restaurant I have been in that could’ve counted as one piece. We were very disappointed to say the least.

The bad — How is it that this place has forgotten to make pancakes? Ordered the short stack of plain pancakes only to send the under cooked pasty blobs back. Next batch was only marginally better. Coffee was weak and reminded me of a quip from Thomas Jefferson: ‘If this is coffee, bring me tea. If this is tea, bring me coffee.’. Manager was able to brew up a decent pot; but, again why not make it properly initially.
The good — Ham was good. On earlier visit had the sweet cream filled raspberry compote covered crepes which were good.
Got a 50% discount which I gave as tip to waitress.
Ate there late on 2015-​07-​01.

Beware, having a very bad day around here today, screaming in the kitchen, bad vibes, good service though… eggs had a weird chemical taste. Kitchen really slow, wait staff stressed to the max! Coffee was good! While here my food and two other tables really close had to go back, wrong food, pancakes burned, avocado black, ewwww! Not really all that busy, was warned as being seated the kitchen was running behind, good came out pretty fast but had to be redone, waitress caught it before it came to table.

Amazing staff and great food. Just make sure you don’t go when they are busy and training a new employee at the same time.

I’m only giving 2 stars for the following reason: friendly staff and clean. We sat for 10 minutes before the hostess came to offer us a drink since apparently we don’t have a server. Then we waited an HOUR to get food. What we had wasn’t elaborate. The restaurant was not full or busy. It shouldn’t have taken that long. We were about to leave when it was brought out. Not even sure why we waited.

Went there for a late breakfast on a Sunday. If you’ve been to one, you’ve been to them all. The issues I think this venue may have are their service and presentation.
Service — My experience was «ok». As compared to other reviewers, I didn’t have any major problem.
Food — Was standard taste wise, but the presentation was a bit awkward. I ordered silver dollar pancakes and they came out looking «weird». Not bad. They brought my toast out on a huge plate instead of a saucer. Again, these are small things that just leave you scratching your head.
Environment — the place was packed. This isn’t their fault. I believe this is moreso a function of Abilene’s inability to meet demand for this kind of service.

Waitstaff was very friendly. We were seating in a timely manner. Food was good, love their pancakes.

IHOP used to be my favorite place to eat. The Abilene location really is horrible. The waitstaff rarely looks clean. Once, I went and one of the waitresses had a huge wound on her arm. It looked semi fresh and wasn’t covered at all. How do you handle food with an open wound on your arm?! Gross! My food was also hard as a rock. I had to send it back. When it was brought out the second time, I didn’t trust it. I paid and left without eating. Another time, the waitress reeked of cigarette smoke. I’m not expecting Barbie and Ken to bring out my pancakes, but come on! And I’d rather my pancakes not have the ability to knock someone out if I, for whatever reason, decided to throw one.
Not only that, but every time I go, it takes forever to get my food. It doesn’t matter how many people are in the restaurant, expect a wait. I guess everyone that is employed by this IHOP is too busy chain-​smoking a pack of cigarettes and doing bmx tricks on their bikes and scraping themselves up.

Nasty place! Dirty, no paper towels or soap in bathroom. Trash can overflowing, yuk! Couldn’t enjoy my meal because of all of this! Won’t be back!

Honestly the worst IHOP I’ve been to. Waited 4 minutes to be seated, 40 minutes for food, 10 minutes for a water refill, and 5 minutes in line to pay for the food. Being an IHOP fan in other cities this experience is making me reconsider where I want to take my hard earned money.

Terrible service. I sat with a direct view into the kitchen and saw tons of plates sitting under the heat lamp for 15+ minutes at a time. I watched to see what servers were responsible (and to make sure one of them wasn’t mine), but it looked like the kitchen was partially plating sides before the main entrees were done. If you plate the veggies and mashed potatoes first to wait for the chicken, sticking them under a heat lamp does NOT make them fresh. Our server apologized for the wait on the food, and when it came it was cold and obviously old except for the main entrée, hot like it just came out. IHOP can be just fine if the kitchen doesn’t do this.
Then, just to make SURE I was motivated enough to leave a bad review, we waited over 20 more minutes after our plates were cleared for our check. Definitely do NOT recommend.

I’ve eaten at this IHOP a handful of times now and my experiences have always been the typical, run of the mill types. Nothing to get excited about or anything but my latest visit was really great.
My waitress, Shena, was nothing short of awesome. Instead of having to open a ton of little containers of half and half, she brought me a glass of milk for my coffee and didn’t charge me. She recommend a pretty tasty banana fosters French toast and checked in on me pretty often. I asked if I could get a side order of sausage to take home to my dog and she went back into the kitchen and grabbed me some old sausages that were just going to be tossed. Once again, no charge and she gave me more than plenty (I was only wanting two and I got about a dozen).
It’s always easier to write a bad review and I think those that work in food service (or any customer service job, really) get over looked sometimes. My experience at IHOP far exceeded what I was expecting and that makes me very happy.
