Five stars. An excellent environment to learn the Ukulele with numerous teaching professionals available on hand. From beginner to expert levels, it is such a great deal to learn something new. I’ve always wanted to learn how to play again(learned when I was young, but forgot after all these years). This is one of the best places to learn from. Generations of local residents have taken classes and lessons from Roy Sakuma Studios. The walls here are studded with numerous talent and stars who have come through here. Amazing! If you’d like to learn how to play or even want to just brush up on your skills, Roy Sakuma Studios is the place to learn from. Located in the Aiea Commercial Center, with lots of parking available(only tight on Saturday noons). Other locations are available too! I highly recommend this establishment!

A cousin of mine recommended this place. I had my daughter taking lessons elsewhere at a place that was closer to my home and had more scheduling flexibility. I was a bit skeptical about coming here, because I had difficulty with the schedule and it was a much farther drive during peak traffic times for just a 30 minute lesson. However, the prices for lessons are very affordable. Well after a month of lessons with Mr. Lee, I am very well pleased. He is very friendly and connects well with the kids. The student teacher ratio is small, 3:1 which is a good size for them to still get individual attention and to motivate them to do as well as their peers. My daughter already knows her C scale and several easy songs. The other teacher I’ve interacted with(I think her name is Alice? ?), is a sweetheart and you can tell she has a heart for teaching. I’m looking forward to watching my daughter progress and eventually play in the Ukulele festival in July. I’m glad I took my cousin’s recommendation. Worth the drive to get my daughter quality lessons from a place she enjoys going.

Wallace(Wally) and I are new students here at the RSUS and so far we are having a fun time learing the Ukulele from our instructor Candyce. Candyce(this young cute little thing) is awesome at playing the ukulele(no wonder she’s an instructor), patient, knowledgeable and very funny. We have attended 2 classes and already know the following: the name of each string, scale up and down, a type of strum, a few strumming chords, picking songs: twinkle twinkle, happy bday, london bridges, boogie woogie and strum a song Wahine Ilikea. Although these are simple type songs, we are dazzled that we are learning the basics and they actually sound good. The whole aura of the studio feels nice and very inviting, everyone has a nice positive energy and Roy Sakuma has them trained very well. Our class has 4 students which I think is a very good size. The class run about $ 16 each session and each session is ½ hour long. Ordering Ukulele through RSUS is the best thing to do because they have Kala ukulele at a discounted price and they sound great! Sessions sounds pricey, but very much worth it to learn a musical instrument :) knowing how to play is a lifelong trick :)) Mahalo RSUS… maybe we can play in da festival next year ah?
