Washington Park

Large park with parking lot and street parking. Softball fields, Tennis courts, open field, exercise stops, restrooms and playgrounds.

First time coming to this for alumni party. Pretty nice park, right next to the beach.

If you have children stay clear of the soft ball field near the duck pond after 4 pm. The benches near that corner of the park are usually overrun by shady high schoolers smoking weed in the late afternoon.

This is a pretty decent park with a good balance of things. Note, we stayed on the side off Central, away from the waterfront area. On this side there is plenty of grass areas that are nicely shaded and well kept. My son and I started off with a picnic blanket on the grass to eat lunch. He later went to the decently-​sized playground — not huge, but not small at all. There are also a lot of picnic tables under shade near the playground.
The cement areas on this side — the basketball courts and paths — look worn, but still usable. There are plenty of trash cans and I like that they have Recycling and Organic bins available for you to use. There is a nice ocean breeze that comes through here too, so on a cold day definitely being jackets.
I enjoyed this park enough to make a note to come back to visit the waterfront areas.

Washington Park is a great place to play baseball or softball. The fields are maintained and clean. There are even lights for those night games. Both fields can have issue when the sun sets and shines right in your eyes. And there are some potholes in the outfield that you have to watch out for. Because it’s in a residential area, parking can be an issue.

Very nice Park that has a children’s playground, basketball courts, tennis courts, and a picnic area near the beach in alameda. I came here for calisthenics exercise purposes. I wish they had a real triple set pull up bar and parallel bar but they don’t.

Not sure where Washington Park ends and the State beach takes over, but it’s a good park with picnic area, kids play area, dog park ad baseball field. BBQ picnic tables are always busy and there are always family gatherings and get together.

This is a great park! There’s the beach, the dog park, playground for kids, picnic areas, areas to play sports. The bathrooms are very typical for a public beach bathroom. I have seen worse.
Beach parking — 5 $. You can park by the dog park and walk.
Dogs aren’t allowed at the beach.
Bring a blanket and a sandwich, then lie down in the shade and enjoy.
We all (adults, kids, dogs) had a blast.

I have lived in Alameda for 21 years, and eventually moved to Oregon. However, Washington Park has always held a spot in my childhood memories. I still remember a decade or so ago they used to have a black freight train here for kids to play in.
I returned back to here last week, while visiting family here, and now I’m a proud father. My three kids still enjoyed this park, maybe just as much as I have when I was young. Great atmosphere and field area — baseball field, basketball court, dog park, and a childrens’ play area.

Nice park. I really enjoyed it knowing that it was 103 degrees at home in Walnut Creek. Sitting under a tree with a cool breeze and 75 degree weather was bliss. Park was clean as well as the bathroom. No rowdy kids or adults. Very relaxing.

I am so grateful to live near this park. It’s very big and a lot of people don’t realize there are many areas to explore if you just keep walking past the tennis courts and near the shoreline. There is everything like basketball court, tennis, baseball court. There are swings and a play structure. It’s a nice place to BBQ during the summer and make sure you reserve it with the park officials because it gets pretty crowded in the summer time. There is also a small and large dog park with free parking right next to it. If like geese and ducks, you can walk over to the pond area and just sit on the bench. Please don’t feed them! It’s also a nice place for a jog and if you are tough enough you can actually follow the shoreline path all the way to BAY Farm.

Washington Park is the ultimate kick it spot for kiddos on Alameda’s West End. Bring a blanket or something and lay out in the grass while your children learn vital social and relationship skills under the canopy of a very cool sandbox. Major mom networking at this park. It’s the sure thing.

I love playing softball here — well-​maintained outfield and infield. The dugouts are spacious, bleachers are decent too.
LF in the lower field is tricky for afternoon games because the sun is going down there. I’d recommend lining yourself up with the shade from the trees if possible.
Upper field is unique, kind of feels like Fenway because the fence is tall and easy to hit.
Good lighting too.

The only bad thing is that it sometimes attracts groups. I was there once when a large group was there and they had rented bikes, which many kids and adults were riding through the playground area where lots of toddlers were playing. Some were even giving attitude that kids were getting in their way as they rode…

I was telling someone that I’d never been to jail before, but I imagine that the park bathrooms look similar.
That aside, it’s actually a pretty decent park. Plenty of room for kids to run around and not get lost and very very nice grass.
Parking was totally easy and it was a great spot for our bbq and softball game.

This is a fabulous park, especially for playing softball and BBQing. A bunch of Unilocalers took over the field for a few softball games and I must say, I enjoyed playing here immensely. The location is ideal and there’s plenty of places picnic tables for you to bring food and just hang out. There were also basketball courts and there were bathrooms not too far from the softball fields.

Lower Washington Park is next to Crown Beach and features lots of lit tennis courts, a dog park, and a soccer field. Upper Washington Park has grassy areas popular for picnics, a serious baseball field, and a basketball courts that seems to have a lot of pick up games going on.
A sad note. One of the benches under a tree at Washington Park memorializes an Alameda teen who was shot and killed one evening years ago at the Park.

This park is clean, maintained, and best of all family & dog friendly. It a great sign when you can bring a kid (under 10) and a puppy to a park and not have to worry about both of them putting something weird in their mouth or stepping on something. There are always a ton of family and exercisers at this park. There are tennis courts, open field, picnic area, and a dog park. A big dog & small dog park which is great!
For those who don’t live in Alameda, its easy to instruct them to the park. Its also easy for them to find parking whether in the lot or in the neighborhood. Its also a great spot to walk around, then all the way to the beach.
They just had a fair on the grass. This is also where the See Jane Run marathon will begin.

I came here for a friend’s birthday on a cold January day, yet the beautiful park and the gorgeous sunset made me forget that I was cold. I only wish they had more street lights within the park and near the beach. Other than that, I thought this was a beautiful and cozy park.
Tip: If you need to use the bathroom, I suggest you use the bathrooms by the parking lot, because the bathrooms next to the beach have spiderwebs on the ceiling. If you are not as easily disgusted by this stuff as I am, then go ahead, but you’ve been warned.

My son was thrilled to visit his old school last Friday and the feeling was mutual among his former teachers and classmates. Afterwards, we traveled over to Lower Washington Park to watch the School’s flag football team play a competitive match.
The field was marked off on and around the baseball field. My son hung out with the team on the sidelines, while I watched the game from the field, the dugout, the bleachers, and the stairs to the upper part of the park.
The entire facility is sunny, with large areas for grass, picnic, and other play, including a sizable children’s area. Parking is plentiful, the bathrooms were clean, but available shaded areas are a bit dear. And I suppose that if I had really gotten bored, the New Zealander was within an easy walk for a pint.
