We love this place. The food has the best textures and perfectly blended spices. We have been looking forward to being able to go back again soon. Not only is the food wonderful but the owners, cooks, and all employees make dinning there lovely.

Wonderful clean healthy Indian food! We went for the buffet at noon, and it was amazing… fresh and clean tasting, perfectly spiced dishes! Normally, I need a nap after a typical Indian lunch, but not here, I actually felt energized after the meal. Will definite be back.

This place is AMazing!(See what I did there.) We got two of the gluten free dolsas– which are rice and/or lentil crepes, and the buffet. Everything was super good. I asked the chef what her secret was for the crepes because they had a sour cheesy taste I had never had before and it blew my mind. I won’t spill her secrets on the internet but you have to try the crepes. They were chewy with a little crispness and the most delicious flavor. I got the masala one and the husband got the veggie one. Both amazing. And my favorite thing on the buffet was the okra. If you want a truly spectacular and unique Indian meal you have to try this place. I wish I lived here so I could be a regular!

Best True authentic Gujarati indian food in ABQ, hands down. Very healthy too. This coming from indian eating at many restaurants in these areas. If you want to eat creamy indian food this is not the place– one which narrows your coronary arteries…

If you are looking for an alternative to traditional Indian restaurant presentation, this is the experience you seek! Feels like one is in a side street café in Bombay. I half expected to see a Bajaj 3 wheel covered scooter good by. … oh, and like everyone else said, the food is amazing!

I grew up outside of Edison, New Jersey also known as «Little India». As a result, I’ve been eating Indian food since I’ve been in the womb. I’ve eaten Indian in New York City and Philadelphia, but nothing ever compared to Edison, until now. That is, if it’s fair to even compare. Am India has flavor and dishes that are new to my palate. Perhaps it results from having had Indian food that is mostly from the opposite end of the country. However, they really put their all into it. I went here with two other diners and we all shared. It was a delightful experience and everything tasted amazing. You’ll wait for the food but it’s all cooked fresh and worth it. Don’t go anywhere else unless you plan on a rather long road trip.

I love a place where the owner is present and welcoming. The south India food was fabulous and very reasonably priced. All fresh and delicious, all together a memorable experience!

Am Spices of India reminds me of the best authentic cultural restaurants from around the world. First, my wife and I were immediately welcomed by the owner when we walked in! We had premeditated intent to order the Authentic Gujarati Dinner, so we asked if that would be sufficient food for the two of us. The owner suggested one more small thing off the menu, so we let him recommend. He followed through with the Masala Dosa and two spiced iced teas. Everything was delicious. The Gujarati dinner offered a wide array of yummy curries and flatbread. We probably could have taken home leftovers, but we finished it all, and left full The dinner also came with two pieces of gulab jamun, which were new for me, and wonderful! Because the gulab jamun are milk solids-based, the owner asked if we were vegan, just to check before serving, which was very thoughtful. In our case, we enjoyed them thoroughly :) I definitely recommend Am Spices for authentic, delicious food and a cultural experience!

Amazing thaali! Amazing dhokla. This is real indian food that is made in gujrati households. Love the way they treated us. I did not get to taste the pavbhaji which I still regret! But again kudos to them for maintaining the authentic taste!

Best khichdi I’ve ever had in my life! It was freshly prepared and tasted amazing. So were the Gujarati thali and the combo plate. All dishes were authentic, and made with great attention to detail. It was a great find in ABQ. Highly recommended! Really considered knocking the rating down a notch because of these areas of improvement, but the food made up for it: (1) The place is a bit cramped (2) We were told that a few dishes on the menu were not available(Khichdi, Dhokla) and that it will take hours to prepare. Why have it on the menu then if you aren’t willing to prepare it? On our insistence they made the Khichdi which was heavenly. (3) We finished eating 90 minutes after we got in, and that should have been plenty of time to prepare our take-away order; yet we had to wait for 15 more minutes.

If i can use one word to describe this place, it would be «Authentic». Both the dishes we ordered were reminiscent of home made food, ambience was good and service was fine. Their timings are a definite plus for someone like me who decides to eat lunch at 4 sometimes!!! I should say they are a little pricey for what they offer but I’m definitely going there again.

My daughter and I visited my son and his family, who just moved to Albuquerque, NM, from the Washington, DC metro area(Alexandria, VA). We had a craving for Indian food and found Am Spices of India on Unilocal. We all had the buffet and were not disappointed. The owners and everyone on staff were very nice and friendly. All vegetable dishes were very tasty and deliciously spicy. My 3yo grandson is very picky so the owner went out of her way to make him a crispy crêpe with cheese. Served with the buffet was a flat bread that was out of this world delicious. The samosas we ordered for appetizer was also excellent.

I would prefer to give Am Spices of India 4.5 stars instead of 5, just due to the lack of atmosphere and charm in the actual restaurant, but it’s food and it’s owners’ hospitality definitely make up for the lackluster setting. After reading some reviews and checking out the menu, my dad and I stopped at Am Spices before our flight out of ABQ. We were really pleasantly surprised! We both ordered the Masala Dosa(vegetarian and gluten-free friendly!), which came with delicious sambhar(a kind of vegetable stew) and a cool minty chutney. I also got a hot masala chai, and my dad went for an iced masala black tea. Everything was outstanding, filling, and flavorful, and thinking about it now makes me wish I could have it all over again! We would both highly recommend Am Spices to anyone who’s a fan of authentic Indian food with heart. I will definitely return the next time I’m in Albuquerque!

A couple friends and I happened upon Am Spices of India while looking downtown for a place to eat. The interior is small, but there is also an outside patio area that many patrons made use of. My friends ordered mango lassi to start, and the owner was kind enough to bring out some cold spiced tea, both of which were excellent. As we waited for our food to arrive, we saw many customers come in and out, many of whom ordered dosas to go.(They looked delicious!) It seems that the shop is something of a local favorite and has many loyal repeat customers, which is usually a good sign. The space(while small) was charming, the service was gracious, and the food was quite good. Overall, it was a great experience and an wonderful place to try vegetarian/South Indian food.

My husband and me are a bit snobby when it comes to Indian food. He grew up in India and we both cook it at home a lot. Most Indian restaurants make food for non-Indian folk: way too much ghee with tons of heavy cream and food coloring. A guilty indulgence, don’t get me wrong, but far from what most Indians are cooking at home. There is the difference at Am. The owner’s wife cooks everything herself, homestyle. This isn’t a fancy sit-down Indian restaurant and you won’t get naan-but it is SO much better! I highly recommend the Gujarati dinner special, paneer pakora, samosas, and chole poori. This is high quality, authentic Indian food that doesn’t apologize for its bold flavor and spice. Guess what-dives have the best food!

Went here for dinner a few nights ago. I have to say: dinner does not seem to be their strong suit. The restaurant is kind of shoe-horned into a very small space and the flow for staff is awkward at best. This lead to a lot of inefficiency in their dinner service, and not much atmosphere. Hence –1 star. The food is where this place stands out. We got some pakora to start which were excellent. I got some flat veggie thing that was fermented which was excellent. My wife got a rice dish that also had great flavor. The great thing about this food is that it wasn’t overly heavy. I have had several Indian friends say that American Indian food is a lie; they don’t eat the heavy cream-and-butter sauces that are so common at restaurants here. This place struck me as more«authentic» given those sentiments, but then again I’m a white dude from the mountain west so I could be wrong. I definitely plan on returning for lunch buffet sometime; my guess is that the awkward space would be less of an issue then.
