One star not based on a stay but on the signage that says you are prohibited from taking a picture without paying at the office. I don’t know guys, how about embracing this place’s use in BB, maybe fixing up some rooms to attract patrons and making some money by being entrepreneurs? Nope, just put snarky signs up and collect the occasional chump change from some one that would be goaded into paying you a fee to take a pic. The lazy way. Well done! Anyway I took a pic from afar and drove on. I recommend anyone doing the tour de breaking bad follow suit.

Just on the other side of the freeway from High Street on Central Ave. sits the Crossroads Motel. My friend Saul recommended this place to me. Its a great place to stay if you are getting some plastic surgery done down the street at the NM Plastic Surgery Center a block and a half away. Its a good place to lay low during your recuperation. There were a whole bunch of drunken noisy Mexicans here the last time I stayed. Can you say tequila and Cerveza? These mo-fo’s were lit up! Playing music and singing ’til the wee hours of the morning. I bumped into one of the bleary eyed banditos in his room next door the next day and he told me his banda«El Tortuga» got its big break the day before on the local radio station 95.9 El Rey across the street. I told him I understand what getting a break was all about. I wished him good luck as I left. . While you might not have the best night’s sleep of your life at this funky Route 66 motel. However, if it’s a budget night’s sleep your after then go for it. The prices are reasonable and the cheapest you will find in the area. I know a guy who used to come here with his GF(wink wink) all the time. He said it was great. The rates are cheaper by the hour. I have also been told this is a great place to party providing you keep it low key. No wi-fi and the vending machine fare is limited. Still this is an ok place to get a «good» nights rest. I’m sure I’ll be back.

I did not stay here, the review is for the policy that photographs(Breaking Bad anyone?) cannot be taken without paying a fee. I’m pretty sure I’m allowed to take pictures of anything I want from the sidewalk. I therefore did a photographic drive-by. You can see my photos here .

«Yay! I’m a fan» … of Breaking Bad. What a total coincidence that the first exit we took after three hours on the road was Central Ave. in Albuquerque. After more then eight hours on the road and three hours since our last rest stop we decided to go to dinner before finding a place to crash. I noticed the hotel out of the corner of my eye and said to myself, «Hmm, that looks like the hotel where Jesse would take Wendy the hooker and get high on meth. Oh, what are the odds?» Well, while I was having some bomb New Mexico green chili I used my phone and confirmed it. This motel was featured in the first few season of Breaking Bad and I just had to go back and take some pics, even if I looked totally weird taking pics of a random hotel at 8:30 at night on a very cold New Mexico night. I actually contemplated staying at the motel and asked the clerk how much one night in the place would set me back — $ 42.50 /night. I passed on the chance to relive Jesse’s meth induced trips — the place does in fact look like a drug hub.

Alright, we’ve never stayed here, but it looks like a fairly mediocre place. The reason for the review is because it was used quite a few times as a shooting location for the show ‘Breaking Bad.” How cool is that? To be fair, in the show, this place is portrayed as a den of meth and prostitution, and it did not seem that way at all from the clientele we saw in and around the parking lot. Just looks like an okay place to flop, with the added benefit of having been used as a set for one of the best shows on television.
