Best comic store I’ve visited in Ames. Has pretty much everything you can ask for. Current comics, graphic novels, a whole bottom floor of well stock back issues. Has a graphic novel discount shelve. It’s also a gamer store with tons of comic and gamer merchandise. Staff was friendly and welcoming. It’s right across for Iowa State. Really cool store.

Mayhem is a great place if you are looking for comics or other more «nerdy» items. I was looking for a certain comic collection book and asked them if they had it. They checked their system and told me no, but they called their store in Des Moines to check. They had it, so they offered to bring it to Ames for me the next week. I was going to Des Moines any way, so they set it aside for me and it was ready for me to pick it up the next day. GREAT customer service and a great atmosphere.

My Son has been coming to Ames almost every year since he was born to visit his Grandparents. I love how he gets along and loves my Mom and Dad and enjoys his stay. However, as a proud graduate of the University of Iowa, the other thing that comes to mind is — Mamas don’t let your babies grow up to be Cyclones. :)
The Kid is now into «Magic the Gathering» and over the last few years, this is the next place that he wants to go after arriving from California. Mayhem Collectibles is roomy, well lit, clean, and safe. In one room, there are lots of comic books and similar nicely displayed literature. In the other is the game room, where the nerds and the antelope play. I had no problem with dropping him off for a few hours or allowing him to roller blade over from home. I’m grateful that Mayhem Collectibles is here as a welcome alternative to his «Other Worlds» home in Portland Oregon.

If you’re even remotely interested in comics or anything comic-related, you will be completely enamored with Mayhem. I’m nerdy in a different way, so there really isn’t much there for me, aside from the kickass board game selection.

Friendly and nicely stocked. Competively priced but if you have patience, you can probably save a few bucks online for some of the more common comics.

This is the oldest, most established and most competent comic book store in central Iowa. This is the original baby. You’re not going to find anything on this scale with this inventory in 200 miles.
This store is large and they have a deep, deep inventory of comics. They are exceptionally enthusiastic and knowledgeable about everything in stock and have a really good comic subscription program that allows you to keep a ‘box’ for your comics and pick them up in bulk.
