Great homemade ice cream! Be warned that the portions are huge. Great choice of flavors; I had the cookies and cream and red raspberry chip, both were great. The place was pretty busy but there was plenty of staff on to accommodate all of the customers. I only wish that we would have found this ave sooner as they close for the season on October 12th.

Oh my goodness I love this place. Generous portions, reasonable prices and nice people. We were happy with our orders. I had a sundae ¼ kiddie size with peanut butter and hot fudge. The kids couldn’t finish one scoop. It’s so sad that the close for the season Columbus Day. We’ll definitely need to make one more trip up.

On our way back from Newburyport in search of ice cream so decided to stop in. My friend and I both ordered the 2 scoop(2nd smallest size a little under $ 4) in a cup with a sugar cone. My friend chose the pistachio and me, the coffee cookies and cream. Portions are generous but we’ve had better ice cream. The pistachio did not have many nuts nor did the pistachio taste come thru in the ice cream. My coffee cookies and cream was choc full of oreo pieces but way to sweet. Both creamy but left something to be desired.

Here’s the thing. I can eat a Kimball Farm banana split, but can barely eat a six scoop SMALL banana split here. Yup. A large banana split at Jay Gee’s, which is actually bigger then the Kimball Farm’s banana split, is actually a small here. Not kidding. A Large banana split at this place is 9 scoops. And That’s 9 softball size scoops there! And ordering a kiddie is embarresing to me. I have to say, that they need to revamp tie sizes. That is instead of 1-scoop, ¼ Kiddie, Kiddie, Small, Large; they should have this: Kiddie, Small, Medium, Large, X-large. As far as banana splits, the one scoop should be like a banana sundae, the small should be two scoops, a medium should be three scoops, and a large should be at max, six scoops. And you got to watch WCVB’s special about the special sundae, which is the size of 4 of these Kimball farm banana splits on a Cheesecake Factory plate with all the toppings on it. Hey, all you out there who eats a banana split at Kimball Farm, I challenge you to eat the Hodgie’s 12-scoop special here. I don’t know what the strawberry shortcakes and perhaps the apple crisp sundaes supposedly they serve here in the fall before Columbus day(Yup, they close on Columbus day for the season… BOOOOO), but I have to say that they are going to be quite big. As far as the ice cream is concerned, well, the ice cream is good, just not quite as good as Kimball farm’s ice cream. But I may stick with Kimball Farm as my primary ice cream place.

Ice cream is good but portions are ridiculous… and the obvious reason for that is so they can charge you way too much… save your money… go to dairy queen or friendlies or there are plenty of mom & pop ice cream shops around

Always fresh ice cream and plentiful servings! You’ll find a lot of flavors both hard and soft serve and they are delicious. Try the m & m or a banana split, you will love it! It’s window service only, they have yummy fried food here too. Staff is always very friendly and looks clean inside.

As always it pays to make the drive and get some amazing ice cream. However, Was upset that they ran out of what we ordered and didn’t bother to make the adjustment on the main board, she waited till everyone in our party was served to mention it. She also just assumed everyone wanted theirs in a cup, didn’t even mention a cone. Just disappointing customer service. The ice cream was great as usual, just wished the people were.

Always loved this place, since I was a kid. Not much has changed — still the best ice cream around. Try a sundae with a classic flavor. You’ll be impressed with the quality.

1 scoop is equal to two scoops of yummy post beach ice cream. I had the double chocolate, wife had the black raspberry and the kids had the cookie dough. My oldest said two scoops was too much. The service was quick and the girls were friendly. We enjoyed sitting on the picnic tables out back amongst the pine trees. It might look too crowded but stop anyway. The line moves quick. They have burgers, etc. too

First things first, the portions are HUGE. Everyone I saw got their ice cream in a dish. You may want to opt out of getting it on a cone. Ordered a ¼ kiddie and that was still a large amount. I got the coffee cookies and cream, which is exactly what it sounds like, oreoes in coffee ice cream. There wasn’t much coffee flavor to it. They have all the flavors to be expected as well as different creations. Price was relatively reasonable,. Cash only, but there is an ATM. Servers were friendly.

Most delicious ice cream I have ever had. The maple walnut is my favorite! It’s a must to check out :)

The reason the portions are so huge here is the fact that the ice cream is 40−50% air. They fold a ton of air into this mix — so much that a cup of ice cream from Hodgies that is twice the size of a pint of Ben and Jerry’s container weighs about half as much. Premium ice cream like Haagen Dazs or Ben & Jerry’s, contain only 12% air, which is why it is so dense and creamy. The reason Hodgies feels light and lacks smoothness and flavor is because it is not a premium product. The lack of flavor comes from the high air content.

It’s ice cream, so even when it’s bad, it’s still pretty good. But it’s not great. The flavors are heavy handed and fake tasting. There are better bangs for your caloric buck. I do like the peanut butter softserve. Don’t order a ladybug.

Had the«peanut butter cup» ice cream, which is chocolate ice cream with peanut butter swirl. This is the same concept that Kimball’s uses for one of their flavors. But Kimball’s actually succeeds. Hodgies’ chocolate base was just awful. It was so sweet it was almost painful. The peanut butter was tasty and would cut the sweetness somewhat, but it was nearly absent from my serving. Also, the consistency/texture of the ice cream didn’t feel premium. It was more chewy/chalky than creamy. I sampled the cookie dough ice cream my son ordered, and the vanilla base had the same problem. It was way too sweet and seemed like it had been inspired by Hood.

I converted to a «too» fan after mr hodge left the original hodgies… I feel that«too» has worked hard to keep their variety, quality, and low prices… Old hodgies needs to step it up to meet the reputation it established years ago.

Hodgie’s is a local institutions when it comes to ice cream and their reputation is well-deserved. We actually mark Hodgie’s opening and closing dates on our calendar and at the end of the season, we get half gallons to store in the freezer to get us through the winter. On a really hot day the lines can be long but fortunately, they move along very quickly and most of the time when we go there, we meet people we know and so the waiting time passes quickly. Also, the teens who work there are without exception friendly, cheerful, and efficient. My husband, who has a major sweet tooth and this is his favorite fast food place when they are open for the season. Their hamburgers are delicious as are their fries. The hamburgers are made from… well, real hamburger and they are flavorful. With fries and a root beer float, he’s in heaven. This year our little dogs got to experience Hodgie’s as well… their dog dishes are adorable and yep, our doggies love them. I’m pleased that they have added sugar free options but would love to see them add some lactose free varieties as well for my husband’s and son’s sakes. The frozen yogurt is a start but more truly sugar free(vs no sugar added) flavors would be fabulous. But please Hodgie’s, please, please accept debit cards. We never carry much cash and when we stop in on a whim, we are often limited by how much cash we have on hand. We would definitely stop more often and spend more if we didn’t have to dig through the bottom of my pocket book and the ash tray in the car to see if we have enough cash on hand to cover lunch as well as the ice cream.

I love Hodgies. They have a delicious sugar free banana flavored ice cream that is just wonderful. I like to buy a gallon of it and keep it in the house– that’s how good it is. There is usually a pretty long line and I believe that it is cash only– which is minus a star for me– it’s really an inconvenience for most people this day and age. The portions are gargantuan and a good value for your money. Outdoor seating only.

Woah dude. So this is a perfect place to start before going to any of Hodgies locations. The portions are ridiculously huge. They sometimes will ask if you«are you sure you want a small? its pretty big» If you are going just for a bit of ice cream, maybe you should learn what each size entails, don’t worry though because they have a dictionary in case you need help translating the sizes. So ok they have all these darned sizes… I used to get a ¼ kiddie which is something like 1 ½ scoops of heaven, when I realized i just want a ONESCOOP which really means a ridiculous scoop, its like they use a shovel to fill the cone. Don’t even bother with a small, medium or large unless you are feeding a family, its just ridiculous. They usually have an insane amount of flavors too, I believe its Richardsons ice cream, although I could be wrong. Also, this is one of the very very very few places that ever has mint oreo cookie. All of their flavors and toppings just rock my world… they also sell food but I never would come here for the food, I mean seriously. Oh prices, very affordable. I also think they are cash only… last I went at least. I love it, you will too.
