Recently stopped at Hodgies having been here numerous times. My wife informed the young man waiting on us of her nut allergy(as requested in most establishments). His response left us shocked, he snidely stated«There will be cross contamination» no options, no alternative choice. When asked if he could use a clean scoop in a nut free choice he simply sighed and rolled his eyes, sending my now irate wife storming off back to the car. In the past(and almost everywhere else) someone has simply washed or used a fresh ice cream scoop. Customer service is a lost art.

Their«1 scoop» was more like 4 scoops. Excellent quality, even better value. The«peppermint crunch»(peppermint stick with Oreo), was delicious. My amazing boyfriend got the«gorpe»(banana ice cream with chocolate chips and Reese’s pieces). God he has good taste. He found this gem driving back to Boston from Portland, ME. He’s just so fabulous. Coolest person ever.

Driving up I-95 from NY to Maine. At the last exit in Mass we stopped for a break and found this homemade ice cream stand.(Actually was recommended in the Drive I-95 book we were using). The ice cream was really rich and delicious. I had the peanut butter chip. Kids had chocolate marshmallow(I took off one star for them cause I don’t like marshmallow in ice cream). Word of warning: servings were huge! Single scoop was more than enough.

I went there for the first time in years last night. Their ice cream is as good as it was the last time I was there. Generous portions and good flavor.

I LOVE Hodgie’s Too! I always try one of their special flavors when I go — they’re always changing and there’s always a few that I want to try. And their regular flavors are great too — they just added Kahlua Chip as a regular flavor! Make sure you bring cash — they don’t accept cards or checks. And they’re seasonal, so you’re out of luck between October and March. And if you think you want a small, order a «one scoop» or a «quarter kiddie» because the small is huge. That’s just the Hodgies way. I love the peanut butter cup ice cream as a go to, and the Thundercloud(swiss chocolate with marshmallow swirl).

I don’t understand the love for Hodgies. The first time I went, I waited in the car with the pup while my husband got some ice cream. When I saw the mammoth portion, I reminded him that I wanted a small. He replied that the tower of ice cream in my hand was indeed a small. Which was GLORIOUS until I took a bite. Then another. Then another. The ice cream just tasted cold. It was supposed to be mint chocolate. Meh. I figured it was just a bad batch. 90% of the ice cream went out the window on the ride home. In addition to a feeling of dissatisfaction later that night, I also felt guilt that my unsavory melted ice cream cone was possibly luring an innocent creature to it’s imminent demise under the wheel of a passing car. So not worth it. Regardless, in the spirit of fairness, we went back and tried other flavors. Still bland. Still gluttonous serving sizes. Yes, the servings are large. But I’m not convinced that getting more of a crummy product is a positive thing.

Well after reading all the great reviews we figured we would try it. Our experience was far from great! We ordered a frozen yogurt and a sundae. The frozen yogurt came out first and of course we had to try it right away. It tasted old and seemed to be a bit icy. When we asked the girl to get a different one she said be right back. Then, some gentleman came to the window apparently upset because we had an issue. He said the ice cream is NOT old. Ok but it’s just not good can we get a different one. We got a «yea but I’m telling you it’s not old. Told the girl to give us another one and whipped this one into the barrel across the room. Well at that point we were not going to buy anything else from this guy! So we paid the girl, who was very nice through the whole thing and went back to our car to eat the sundae. We didn’t finish it because it was to big, the ice cream just wasn’t that good we tossed what was left and said good bye to a miserable ice cream experience. I’ll go back to my ice cream mecca in Ipswich because apparently nobody can compare. We gave it two stars only because of the quantity of ice cream and the friendly people serving it.

HUGE. Check the sizes before ordering a regular! Awesome home made ice cream. Out door benches to enjoy it on. Friendly staff. Great flavor choices. I had the fudge swirl and cookies and cream both were amazing. Frirends really enjoyed the coffee and cookies flavor. Definitely recommend

I converted to a «too» fan after the hodges left the original hodgies… I feel that«too» has worked hard to keep their variety, quality, and low prices… Old hodgies needs to step it up to meet it’s reputation.

Average ice cream. Get a kiddie size –it’s enormous. ATM on site is convenient as they only take cash.

If you really love ice cream, go to Hodgies Too(or Hodgies). Their servings are HUGE and the prices are extremely reasonable! If you order a small the first thing you will hear from your server is «Are you sure? It’s four scoops…» Even a kiddie size is three scoops of ice cream!(For only about $ 4)

As an insider to the Hodgie Too world, I thought I would write a review just to set a few misconceptions straight :-) Hodgies is a family run seasonal ice cream stand. They serve the freshest homemade ice cream and frozen yogurt around! ALL products are freshly made on the premises. The owner makes sure to use only the best ingredients as well as some local flavors(Cider donut ice cream or cider donut sundae using Cider Hill donuts anyone… Yum!) They carry 5 sizes of ice cream ranging from 1 – 5 hearty scoops! One scoop, a ¼ kiddie, a kiddie, a small and a large. Not just because I work there, but it really is a great place to visit! Delicious ice cream in a huge array of flavors, great non-fat and sugar free options, friendly staff and fun atmosphere! So be sure to stop in and you will see for yourself how delicious real homemade ice cream and frozen yogurt are! Helpful hint: Cash only, but there is an ATM.

Great ice crème! The servings are a bit too much so buyer beware… get the ½ kids scoop unless you are starving. Had all kinds of flavors with the family and all were loved. Had a frappé too… mmmmm!

I’ve been going to Hodgies Too for as long as I can remember and after talking with the owners multiple times I can pretty much say that I know Hodgies Too inside and out and I just to clear up what Dan G said… Both Hodgies and Hodgies Too make their OWN homemade ice cream everyday. They use the highest quality creams, candies, fudges, peanut butter, etc. which typically means buying the most expensive stuff. They research local ice cream stands before they set their prices for the season and always make sure that the customer has the best bang for their buck.(a FULL12 oz. cup of ice cream is only $ 2.85 including tax!!!) Sizes and pricing: 1 scoop of ice cream — $ 2.85 2 scoops aka ¼ Kiddie — $ 3.70 3 scoops aka Kiddie — $ 4.50 4 scoops aka Small — $ 5.25 5 scoops aka Large — $ 6.00 Considering how big their sizes are, you cannot beat these prices. Besides that, the quality is second to none. All flavors are creamy and rich with just the right amount of flavor. You can even have them make a custom ice cream cream for you for roughly $ 20!!!(Much cheaper than Carvel. and better!) Personally, I prefer Hodgies Too over Hodgies in Amesbury. Besides, the one in Amesbury is no longer owned by a member of the Hodge family… Another notable characteristic is their terrific service. Each and every time I’ve gone to Hodgies Too, the help has been nothing but polite and professional. It not too tough to see that it must be pretty tough to get a job there. I don’t know how they managed to corral so many kids who actually care about their summer jobs. If you’re in the area, you HAVETO check it out. There’s pretty much always a line, but for good reason. They typically have a lot of kids working though, so the wait is never as long as you may anticipate. (Also, they don’t accept credit card, but just recently had an ATM put in)

This is a relative of Hodgies in Amesbury(or is it merrimac?). As if us fatties from northern ma/southern NH need not one but TWO huge ice cream places. «Small please!» «Um, are you sure? That is like 6 scoops» haha i don’t know but its really ridiculous like that, plus its richardsons I believe so its really delish and local. I actually prefer Hodgies over Hodgies too, i just like the location better but they basically have the same thing, same ordering system(study the ice cream menu to be sure which size you can handle). You always have to chuckle when you hear people trying to order a regular cone, then learning the low down on what each size entails. Its a perfect ending to a perfect beach day.

Holy Moly that is a big ice cream. You are going to want to order half a kiddie. Not kidding. Thinking of the Coffee Cookies and Cream makes me wish H2 was still open.(Closed for the Season).
