I dig the interior of this place. It’s traditional old skool 80’s Chinese restaurant décor– takes me back to my childhood. The food is medicore, like 95% of the other Chimerican restaurants in Anchorage. I think most of their business is due to the proximity to the hospitals. The 11 – 12 dollar lunch special is nothing to write home about– not terrible, not great. Maybe they have particular dishes that stand out, I don’t know. But it wasn’t good enough for me to go back to find out. I’ll stick with my favorites in town and pass on this place in the future.

We ordered for delivery, my girlfriend got food poisoning from their sweet and sour chicken and fried rice, though she said the food tasted fine. I had the Mongolian beef which wasn’t terrible, not great either, it was a pretty spendy meal for all of that though but the delivery driver was very nice and our food was delivered 10 minutes faster than the estimate window.

Tried tons of Chinese restaurants in Anchorage and this is by far the best. Even out of state restaurants had me missing Golden Gate. Love their combos, good price and their workers are super friendly.

4 stars because I really like their kkangpoonggi(crispy chicken with sauce). It’s one of the best in town. A good portion for two people, three if you order something else. Jjajangmyun and jjampong are okay. It’s good, but not great. Jjajangmyun over jjampong. The jjampong soup is a little different or is lacking something. A lot of cabbage and not enough seafood. One thing I’ll really complain about are the prices. Almost $ 20 for jjajangmyun or jjampong?! That’s outrageous. I mean, just because it’s Alaska doesn’t mean it’s acceptable to set a really high price. Despite their expensive food, I will come back for the crispy chicken.

Waitress was polite and the food came out fast. I was actually surprise that the food was really good. Didn’t think they had good Asian food in Alaska but I stand corrected. This is now my favorite place to eat. Thanks to my friend!

I know that Golden Gate Restaurant primarily serves Chinese-American food, but I give them 4 stars for having one of my favorite Korean dishes, and for doing it well. Jajangmyeon(jah-jung-myun): a Korean noodle dish topped with a thick sauce made of chunjang(a salty black soybean paste), diced pork and vegetables, and sometimes also seafood. [source: Wikipedia] The jajangmyeon is so good that even a Korean friend of mine goes there just for the authentic and familiar flavors of home. Not many people have even heard of jajangmyeon, but it is definitely worth the try, no matter where your tastes lie.

Took the older kid to Golden Gate for dinner tonight. While the little Asian lady was the ONLY waitress in the entire place, she was certainly our comic relief. She hustled here, hustled there, but never really accomplished anything quickly. Food was your average, run-of-the-mill bland Chinese food. The special chow mein was not so special – gelatinous clear sauce with no flavor and a few vegetables. One dish, a soda, and some tea was $ 20 with tip. Spendy, in my book. Atmosphere is typical cheese-ball Chinese restaurant. Totally a throwback to how things haven’t changed around here. Meh? Indeed, quite.

Yummy comfort Chinese food! And decent prices. I had the sesame chicken-couldn’t eat it all, big portion but was excited to have left overs. Only didn’t give 5 stars due to the fact they had 1 server doing all the service(she was doing a good job) it was just a little rushed to serve everyone.

My family and I have been coming here since it opened, and while it isn’t haute cuisine it is what I think of as good, comforting, giant-portioned, Korean-made Anchorage Chinese food. I like the Szechuan shrimp and the Kung Pao chicken. The spicy seafood soup is delicious. But what really makes this place for me is the staff. Like I said, we’re long-time customers, and the employees and owners are always attentive, kind, and welcoming.

There was lots of it. If I was feeling nice, that might have been enough for two stars. But no, there food just sucks. All of the sauces are nauseatingly thick. The mushu I got was served with Mexican tortillas and the mushu itself was bland. Most of the dish was cabbage and eggs with some chewy strips of pork throughout. This place uses a lot of vegetables, and the cheap ones so that you might not notice the lack of good stuff. The eggs in the mushu were not good either. The rice was also dry. Go to charlies if you want tasty Chinese. I won’t be going back to this place, ever. Don’t even waste your money.
