Well… this review is better than it was going to be, for ONE Reason and one reason only… the Mango Cake!!! AWESOME!!! SOAWESOME! Will go back Only for that! Might have missed it, if hubby had not asked after he paid and was given his togo order, minus the cake. The rice, he said was WORST rice ever. We have been fans of this place for nearly 15years, but now we have Narrowed it down, unfortunately, to only the cake. But If Not for the cake, this review would have been a Good-bye. Be forewarned, though, this placed USED to Be WAY Better!

I didn’t have too high of expectations going here, but was still disappointed. I tried to like the place and wanted to give it a chance but I couldn’t get past the uncleanliness and overall feel of the place. The walls were filled with stains that could easily be washed. The place could be nicer with not much effort. The food itself wasn’t bad, but wasn’t great. It came out very fast so the meat was probably heated up. It was ok, something you can make at home.

The service is slow(island time, right?), but the food is good. I always start of with shoyu poke — the best! Better that the poke I had in Maui! My all time fav is the mini combo plate with chicken and teriyaki beef — grilled to perfection with a good helping of macaroni salad and white rice. Now they have desserts!!! The upside down pineapple cake is like heavens little clouds on my tastebuds — sooo good! Only four stars b/c I think the wait staff could improve their communication. One waitress thought/assumed the other was taking care of us –had to flag one down to take our order.

A great sampling of some Hawaiian favorites! Their version of chicken teriyaki, is absolutely delicious! It’s not like the sushi restaurant kind where there is an ooey-gooey sauce poured over top. No, this teriyaki has the marinate sauce cooked into the meat, making it tender and flavorful. The beef teriyaki is the same! I also enjoy the kalua pork but it’s not as good as the teriyaki dishes. I have also tried their poke! It’s good, but not as fresh as I would have liked. The fried chips made for a nice crunch to complement the softness of the fish. Prices are very reasonable for the mountain of food you get. Definitely worth every penny! Portions are very generous here. Most of the dishes are served with a mac salad and rice. The mac salad is very cream and an indulgence I will only eat on occasion, the rice is nice at sticky making it the perfect complement to the teriyaki. My only complaint is how dirty the place felt. It was cute how they incorporated a Hawaiian feel in Alaska but it could be kept up a bit better… Especially the restrooms.

This place was a pleasant surprise! Fairly simple décor does NOT prepare you for the delicious food to come. The Puleha Chicken was the bomb! Paired with the Kalua Pork was pretty tasty too! Cheap eats, delicious meats, and HUGE portions, to boot!(Easily enough for 2 meals). And our waitress(Nancy) was very friendly and attentive, with a great sense of humor. PS= get the Pineapple Upside down cake for dessert! Treat yo self!

Small little place but packed with flavor. It’s easy to miss so be sure to drive slowly when looking for this place. For some reason I thought I’d come here and expect to find pineapple rice and such dishes but I was wrong. They have lots of other dishes to choose from and most come with a side of rice and their macaroni salad. I must add their macaroni salad compliments their main dishes quite nicely. I think it would be nice to see more options besides the rice and macaroni salad. What I really liked is how friendly the waitress was and how affordable the food was. Two adults can pretty much eat for under $ 25(and that is pretty awesome for Anchorage dining). Hula Hands is worth checking out and hopefully when you go the restaurant is not super smokey.

Visiting Hawaii almost every year you start craving the yummy Hawaiian food! This place has hit the spot! It’s a must try! The kalua pig is so flavorful! Laulau is pretty good just not as good as the ones I had in Hawaii. Loco moco is so yummy! Plus the macaroni salad is really good! If you are in the mood for Hawaiian food this is a must try!!!

Great food! The younger folks that work there will never win any awards for friendliness, but they are never unpleasant. There is one older lady there(Mt View location) sometimes and she is always very nice, but the rest… eh. But the food more than makes up for it. The Pulehu chicken, poke and mac salad are my personal favorites. My husband really likes the beef stew. Fair prices and the food is perfect every time.

Food is great. Been here three times now. Customer service is lacking from the younger female servers. Bathroom is not very clean. Addressed the need for more soap and paper towels and the young lady ignored me.

Great food, cheap prices… Located in a bad part of town, but worth the trip. Try splitting one of there combos as it is too much food for one person. Overall great restaurant.

Soulful grinds to fill any stomach or heart full! This food is amazing. You won’t find better in AK. I have been coming here since I was young and the quality and atmosphere is always top! Try the lupulu!

I wish I ate all my meals here during our trip. It was inexpensive and food was like having mom’s home cooked meals. 1 scoop of rice is never enough. How do they get the rice so good? Service is sincere and pleasant, but slow as molasses. I paid cash cuz I didn’t feel comfortable using a credit card. Place felt too relaxed. The 3 flies flying around inside didn’t sit well with me either.

I’ve been here twice now. Kalua pig is really tasty. But both times I’ve been here there has not been any Poke available. The first time, they were out. And the second time it wasn’t ready yet. However, they gave me my meal at a discount to make up for it. Food portions are huge. Don’t order too much!

We ate here yesterday. We thoroughly enjoyed the food. The macaroni salad is killer and I could make a meal out of that. That said, I am by no means a neat freak, but I could not look past the filthy, rough condition of the dining room. Ceiling tiles with water damage and just overall dirtiness. Maybe take out would be best next time.

Nom Nom Nom This is good, straight forward Hawaiian food. The restaurant itself if simply presented, the portions are huge and the pricing affordable. The poki is definitely worth getting and I usually always settle on the Kalua pork and chicken katsu combo. The mac salad is straight-forward and rich. I like that the waitstaff call me «sissy» The Fireweed location has beer and wine. Definitely consider Hula Hands for catering, they do a great job and the pricing is super affordable.

The goods include: service, flavor, rice and price. Areas for improvement: cleanliness, salad dressing selection(they only have ranch), quality of beef and the use of salt is more than I care for. Overall a good experience and will continue to frequent their two establishments for lunch.

Well, I’ve never been to Hawaii, But I kinda like the cuisine there This place is definitely a hole-in-the-wall, in the best way possible. I should say that I’m not an expert in this style of food, so I cannot say how«authentic» this may or may not be(I don’t care about authenticity in food either, just deliciousity), but it is DAMN good, I was impressed. I got the Kalua PIg and the platter that came out looked almost exactly the same as it does at my favorite Hawaiian place in Portland(808), but it was cheaper! And, to be honest, the pork may have actually been slightly tastier, it was perfectly moist, not at all dry. The portions were generous and the pricing is great, and for Alaska(ever been to a Subway in Alaska? WTF), the pricing is INSANELY good. I was served by what appeared to be a mother-daughter team, they were very nice and helpful. Extremely impressed, I will definitely be back!
