I really wanted to like this place, since it’s obviously a locally owned mom n pop. It’s very casual and unassuming. It looks like the kind of place that should have spectacular home cooking. There was one person manning the whole place. All of the food is pre-prepared and sold by the pound from a steam table. I happen to think that’s a pretty smart way for a small business. It was about 2pm on a weekday when we walked in. There was a line of about 5 people; we stood in line for a few minutes and the line didn’t budge. This gave us plenty of time to peruse the food in the display case. I didn’t recognize any of it, which always excites me because it means it’s an opportunity to experience something new. But sadly, the food looked unsafe to eat. All of the food was dry and crusty on top. I used to work in food service, and I know that it’s crucial to continually stir food on a steam table to maintain safe food temperatures. As a result, we left without ordering because we really didn’t want food poisoning. I regret that I’m unable to give a positive review for this unique eatery. Perhaps when the food safety people do an inspection, they can impart some guidance to the Samoan Kitchen owners. I’d like the opportunity to try some authentic Samoan food. Here’s hoping they can correct their issues and I will return.
