I will never go to Denny’s or village in again. By far the best pancake house in AK. Everything is well Portioned, cooked as ordered and quick! YUM

I like this place. It’s a pretty standard breakfast place, that also has burgers. The service is good, and the prices are pretty decent as well.

Great food and service! But wait time is a bit long especially on weekends

First place we went to in Anchorage, and it did not disappoint. People say everything is bigger in Texas, but the portions from this place were bigger than any breakfast I’ve ever had before. I’m a bit biased toward portion size(versus things like quality of service or wait time, etc) but even so I think my experience was worthy of 5 stars. I got the Reindeer Omelette; it was alright since it didn’t have many other fillings other than the reindeer meat. But my buddy got the Mike’s Irish Omelette and it was amazing. Definitely coming back here if I ever visit Anchorage again!

Went there on Mother’s Day to treat two moms in my life and it was a full house, but luckily we didn’t have to wait for seating. It’s defiantly a family restaurant; there were kids crying, laughing, 3 generations of family’s at single tables. Although it is a Hawaiian themed, or owned restaurant, there was no real minority, or majority, which fits Anchorage’s typical crowed. Our waitress was young, but assertive and all our orders came out correct. Was it the best breakfast and brunch establishment out there? No, it was pretty standard food and the venue was kind of dingy, much like the rest of the restaurants on South Muldoon, but it did have a homey feeling to it, which kept the mommies happy. I’ll be back I’m sure.

If you enjoy dried food with no flavor this is the place for you. If not, don’t go. Yes comes in huge portions, but so does dog food.

I am always so happy with Kava’s. The food is worth bragging about, the service is excellent, and they are timely — even in their peak hours. The girls all work together to serve everybody and it makes for a very positive environment. You can ask a any staff member for anything and consider it done!!! Even the bus boy was helping to fill out drinks when he wasn’t busy. The food is fantastic and the home fries are worth getting. I suggest any skillet plate or omelette, they are packed full of your chosen ingredients. Ranch tastes amazing… I’m not sure if it is homemade but it doesn’t taste store bought!!! Both locations are good, but expect a busier crowd at Muldoon. It is also a smaller space.

Lots of potential but very poorly executed. This was my first visit here but I’ll never go on a Saturday morning again. I’m not sure if it was understaffed in the kitchen or for the wait staff but everything was moving very slowly. We were seated quickly but wait about 45 minutes for food which had likely been sitting in the kitchen waiting to be brought out for about 10 minutes. Others after us were waiting upwards of 45 minutes to be seated. My wife got the waffle, eggs and sausage combo and i got the chicken fried steak skillet. The waffle was crisp and over done enough to leave her mouth sore after we left. She couldn’t even eat her eggs because they were so undercooked and mine were cold mush that almost made me sick. We both ordered over medium eggs. Everything was cold and the gravy on my dish was starting to solidify. Overall, the $ 28 bill was not worth it and I would not recommend anyone to go on a Saturday morning until this restaurant gets their act together at such a busy time. As for the potential, everything LOOKED great and the home fries were very good. The portions were large and won’t leave you hungry. A little better timing and staff and this could be a great spot.

Holy huge breakfasts, guys! I’ll admit most of the times I’ve eaten here have been take-out. I like breakfast in bed and Kava’s is right around the corner from my partner’s house, which makes my life convenient. The one time I’ve eaten in-house, I didn’t notice anything particularly dirty or off-putting. It’s a diner with pretty standard diner booths. The FOOD(isn’t that why everyone comes here?): — Mike’s Irish Omelette. I could eat(read: share) one every day. Avocado, corned beef hash, spinach, mushrooms, swiss. And it’s enormous. Seriously, I split this and am still full at the end. 7⁄5 — The Ono Pancake. If I ate this more than once a month, we’d have a problem and I wouldn’t fit in my pants anymore, but it’s OHSO worth it. Peanut butter chocolate chip pancakes with some sort of peanut buttery topping and whipped cream. It’s also three pancakes and not just one. Huge, sweet but not overly so, and oh so good. I’ve never been able to finish this either. 7⁄5 — The french toast. Kinda lame for ten bucks. It’s good, but nothing special. 3⁄5. Their hash browns are perfectly crispy every time, they offer grits as a side which I LOVE, and everyone else seems to be pleased with the bacon.(I’m not a pork person, so I skip meat sides.) Service was decent. Wait time was minimal on a Sunday morning. Portions are enormous and you won’t need to eat until dinner.

I’ve only eaten two items off the menu but I’ve been there a dozen times! The omelet was amazing! Just enough cheese and veggies. The grits are perfect every time. What can I say about the B.L.T? Totally amazing! 8 thick cut slices of bacon! Last time I brought my mom and we split it and still went away full. The service and staff are helpful and prompt. They always kept our glasses full even when the restaurant was busy. All in all I would highly recommend Kava’s. Great food and service at awesome prices!

So many delicious things to choose from! Where do I even start? I wanted it all. As if the display of pies and cakes at the front wasn’t enough, their menu is jam packed with so many delicious entrees. The fried rice with their eggs, their skillets, but oh with all their delicious pancakes it was just too much deliciousness. The place itself it a bit outdated but the staff is so attentive and friendly that this can easily be overlooked… I was too busy stuffing my face with Hawaiian pancakes and their vegetable skillet and then stealing some bites from my husband’s fried rice. A word about their Hawaiian oancakes, who knew pineapple could be so yummy on pancakes! It also had a hint of coconut. It was absolutely delectable. If you like breakfast any time of day this is the place for you! If you like breakfast AND fried rice then definitely! Your tastes buds will be so happy you ate here.

This is my favorite Kavas to eat at. I Love to eat here. I come from Hawaii and their portions are BIG, the food is good and the price is right. My favorite is the teriyaki chicken dinner with rice and mac salad. ONO!

Omg so I ordered the breakfast fried rice and took 2 bites and it was so gross I couldn’t touch it. They made me pay for it. I good restaurant and management would have apologized and took it off the bill. I should have just listened to the reviews off Unilocal and went to Flo’s pancake house like I usually do. I will never go there again however the waitresses there are super nice and they felt bad that the manager wouldn’t budge on making me pay for an item I was clearly NOT gonna eat. Word of advice don’t eat here and maybe if they got a new manager that wouldn’t walk away from me when I was talking to her. Waste of money highly recommend don’t do it

Good food at a good price, but zoiks is it filthy inside. Don’t sit at a booth, if you do beware of what you might find in the cushions. The coffee is awful, the loco moco and breakfast fried rice are terrific. You won’t leave hungry, but don’t go on any long road trips right after if you get my drift… lol

Kava’s Pancake House #2 is on Muldoon Road, close to the Glenn Highway. My extended family and I really like this restaurant because of the friendly staffers, in addition to the food. We find the booths and tables are clean; it’s never an issue with us. Frequently, Nacole, Jessica, and Meuy(«May») wait on us and give us exceptional service with light, friendly banter. A lot of Military, big Pacific Islanders, and just plain huge fellas, are regular patrons and they seem to really like the«over-the-top» huge portions of food. Me? I would prefer right-sized portions because the take home left-overs just cannot match the taste of Kava’s fresh-cooked meals. One thing that is a consistent stand-out for me is the very good flavor of their pancakes. Kava’s pancakes do not have any flavors of the cooking oil on them. Some of you know what I mean; some«pancake places» serve-up pancakes that leave a cooking oil after-taste in your mouth that I find unpleasant. The dishes that I enjoy, that are about as close as you can get to «right-sized,» are Kava’s(1.) Two-eggs, hash browns, and bacon or link sausage or sausage patties. Of course, my side of pancakes blows the«right-sized» out of the water. LOL.(2.) Eggs Benedict can be yummy if the right cook makes it with a nice Hollandaise sauce(your order can be sketchy in the late afternoons). The omelettes are over-the-top, but two that I like are the California Omelette, and the Reindeer Omelette(I take half of these meals home). All things said, I count myself as a regular at Kava’s.

On the edge of a strip mall that is saturated by mostly chain fast food restaurants sits Kava’s Pancake House. The dining area here is pretty basic with fluorescent lighting and it looks like the typical diner or breakfast joint. The classic car club guys meeting in the corner and their awesome cars in the parking lot helped brighten up the place, though I’m sure it’s not always that way. The menu is straight forward with all the breakfast favorites and a few with Hawaiian fusions. And yes, you can get your fix of spam. Going against this eatery’s name sake, I got a nice fluffy waffle with a side of sausage and scrambled eggs. The waffle was cooked to a nice golden brown with the inside was fluffy. The edges were crispy and when the whole thing was doused in their house maple syrup, it made it even better. The sausage links were on the skinny side, but luckily one normal order comes with FOUR links which makes up for their size. Adding the eggs, orange juice, and coffee everything made for the ideal breakfast. The waitress we had was friendly and kept our coffee pitcher(which they bring freshly brewed along with your mugs) full throughout the meal, which is always important. The prices are very fare and the portions won’t disappoint. Kava’s Pancake House is a great breakfast spot guaranteed to fill you up to start your day!

Ok. Here’s the quick and dirty: What did I like: Best bacon EV-ER. IDK where it comes from but it was outstandingly smoky. Crepes and filling were good Coffee was fresh and strong. Home fries weren’t homemade, but they were cooked perfectly. Server was super nice. She even humored me when I couldn’t decide what to order and asked her to surprise me. Locally owned dive. I love that. Support mom n pops! All breakfast, all the time. One of the most unique breakfast menus I’ve seen in a very long time. They have SPAM. OH F YEAH. Their humongous egg, 3 meat, 2 cheese Saddlebag sandwich comes on the most beautiful, perfectly grilled bread I’ve ever seen. Grill dude has skills. What I didn’t love. The big one… this place is positively FILTHY. The bench had various food remnants on it that I most sat in. The table had big sticky spots. The window had copious filthy slimy hand prints all over it. The carpet had tons on food mashed into it. There’s more… those were just the high lights. I’ve never seen such a dirty restaurant. Now that being said, it smelled clean and all the utensils, plates and glasses were clean. But the restaurant really needs some daily tlc. Food took forever. Food wise everything was good except they ruined the fresh strawberries on my crêpe by adding some of that gross gelatinous canned strawberry filling to them. They should have just sugared the fresh strawberries to stretch and preserve them. All in all, I’d go back. There’s a bunch of stuff on the menu I want to try. I really think they focus more on what’s going on in the kitchen and the front end needs help. There was only one person out front hosting and serving, which is too much to expect her to clean too. Hopefully they can spiff up the place a little. Kava’s is a diamond in the rough.

Very Solid. They have a decent pancake/breakfast combo selection they crank out hot, fresh, and fast. I was very pleased with the food and it came in a larger and tastier portion than I expected. Great for big groups and families.
