Sitting here waiting for my order and witnessing the cook touch everything, touch his face, mouth, floor, handle all kinds of things, eat… Never wash hands… And all the banter going on behind the counter… Doesn’t inspire any confidence. This may be my last time here.

A family favorite. We had grilled halibut sandwiches for lunch today, excellently cooked. Halibut fish and chips are great! A little pricey, but what fresh halibut isnt…

New to Anchorage so relied on good reviews to help decide where to have dinner. We had dinner at Mommas. Over priced and under delivered. The salmon had no spices or flavor. Came to us on a paper plate with dull brown rice. The service was nice, and the people were friendly. I just disagree with the 4 star rates on Unilocal

One of the few places in town I get a craving for that just won’t quit. The halibut is the real deal. Comes in big chunks, flaky, crunchy and delicious. I’m drooling right now just thinking about it.

One of my favorite places in town. I love the food(especially if you’re dieting) The Cajun grilled chicken with cayenne is sooooo good. My sister gets the halibut sandwich which is amazing too. The service is wonderful and everyone is so accommodating and personable.

Had the Cod Sandwich, one fried one grilled. Both were great. Tator sauce was excellent.

I heard that Jackie’s Place bought out the former owner Gee. Our first visit after the change of owners was not very good. In our opinion the quality of the fish and chips had diminished. However, I was finally able to convince the wife to give Momma O’s a second chance and our last visit left us impressed. Fish is expensive food, halibut especially. I love the cod, and I was satisfied with the portion. They used to have a salad bar and we wish they kept it. The dinning area is clean and well kept.

Girl at the counter was sweet and 4 stars! The food was just a snooze fest though. The fish it self tasted awesome the batter and fries fell flat. No seasoning any where, it was like a higher end Long John Silvers

Worst meal ever dried out halibut, and what tasted like 2 week old clam chowder bitter and sour. Also I was over charged $ 5.

Stopped in about 20 minutes until closing and was greeted warmly. It was my first time and I felt bad for asking questions knowing closing time was coming, but the friendliness continued. I landed on the halibut combo with fried scallops and oysters with brown rice. Everything was fresh and delicious. When I left, I felt like I had just had an exceptional dining experience. Not any one thing, just the combination of everything going perfectly. Thanks Mama O’s!

Mmm I am craving their crab cakes as I write this. I love Momma Os, order ahead and the food is always ready for lunch time. The biggest downside about this place is the cashier, she is so so so rude, short snippety. I am not a fan of her, my co-workers always discuss her«unique communication skills» after going there. If the food wasn’t so good I wouldn’t go. 4 stars because of the food, would have been 5 if it wasn’t for the service. Tldr: go! Order crab cakes and enjoy with the mustard/tartar sauce.

First impressions were terrible. Ordered onion rings as an appetizer, and half the rings still had raw flour batter inside. Then after telling the waitress of this concern, she offered to cook«a few more» to compensate. However, she came back minutes later with the same onion rings we complained about(we took a bite of these earlier…). The size of the shrimps were impressive, however they had the same uncooked flour issue… The worst restaurant I’ve been to at my stay in Alaska.

Grilled halibut was exactly what I wanted– perfectly done, moist, little bit of cajun. Momma O’s is nothing fancy, but it is good food and good people.

Followed the reviews looking for a good piece of fish. Found it. Crispy, flaky, and delectable. I got the calamari-halibut combo and was very impressed. Only other place I’ve had squid that tender was in Monterey. Wife got the fish tacos, which were not quite Baja, but did have nice whole wheat tortillas and a great grilled spicy fish. It is definitely $$, but does give good value. The loss of one star is for drink options. Fish this good and crispy deserves ice cold beer. They have none; you have to get take out and go down to Brown Jug on Northern Lights. That’s the only thing missing between this and perfection.

The owner here is awesome. She treats you well and knows the town. The beer battered halibut was pretty dense and meaty, but I was hoping for something lighter and flaky. The pieces were very thick. The taste was good, but the texture was not what I was expecting.

Deep fried seafood is usually not my bag but I wanted to try this place out. First, I like the location; next, I like the salad bar. It’s a simple bar, but has everything you need for a side salad. I really like that you order at the counter; that makes going to lunch with the gang much easier. The halibut was totally good, but the breading was of a lower quality than Capt Chuck’s. The crabcake nuggets were small, maybe a little overfried. Maybe the White Spot is better quality for what you pay.

Tried the grilled cod on my visit to Momma O’s. And while it was fresh, Momma O’s pulled no surprises. I’d expect the fish to be fresh in Anchorage. Worth a stop, but will probably not ‘wow’ you.

If out of state visitors ask, «No, seriously, where can we get a good seafood meal?» This is where I tell them to go. I got reacquainted with their deep fried halibut(3 pieces the size of a thick wallet) and chips — $ 13.50 but better than any downtown place for same price. It was like authentic North Sea fish and chips. I can’t explain how fresh the halibut was: moist but firm… the batter was not too thick but not too thin… and nice and crisp… Momma O’s is Yum-O. The prices fluctuate because of the price of halibut itself. It’s been really expensive lately. You can buy prime rib cheaper than Alaskan halibut. They do prepare your seafood any way you like it but for me, old fashioned Brit style fish and chips is what I want when I walk into the place.

Just by looking at the place you know it isn’t going to be the kind of place where the waitress wipes your face for you, but that’s totally ok. Some think the food is a bit pricey, but as I see it, I am willing to pay the extra buck to know my sandwich is going to be awesome every time. What they may lose in pricepoint, they make up for in consistency. I love that you have the option or fried or grilled and fries or rice. So greasy yes, but you have the option to take the healthy route. This restaurant has been a staple in Spenard for years, very much earring a reputation for great halibut. I second that opinion.
