Chia Hsiang is a nice place near campus for Chinese dish. The chef there cooks very decent Shanghainese dishes for super generous portion and there’s a large variety of choices. And also there are a lot of American come in for Chinese food, as well. I would highly recommend scallion pancake, pepper chicken and hongshao pork!

We went here because someone told my husband it was good. That person must hate my husband. I ordered the Szechuan Sue Gi and I’m pretty sure that’s not what I got. I’ve had a lot of vegan chicken and vegan chicken this was not. I don’t know what this was. But that’s beside the point. I took one bite and had to resist from throwing the dish across the room in horror. It was awful. I really can’t recall the last time I had something that bad. I threw the whole thing away. A 14 dollar dish wasted. Sad. The girl that helped us was very nice, so I feel a little bad, but I obviously do not recommend anyone go here.

Very high quality Chinese food, spicy enough, good service. You must visit if you visit Ann Arbor :)

The food was alright but the service was really bad. We were super unsatisfied with the service so we gave only 10% tips, which we thought were reasonable, but the woman actually looked at our receipts and said the tips were not enough. Can not believe that. Customers have the right to give less tips if they are not satisfied.

The dishes we had were shredded chicken, fish with mushrooms, and Chinese squash. Not sure on the exact names for those — they have a massive binder for a menu, the listing on Unilocal doesn’t even seem to be comprehensive. All of them were delicious though, the best Chinese food I’ve had in Ann Arbor. Sadly, a couple issues: we had two pots of tea, both cold. And the rice was a bit bleh, tasted reheated. You’d think those basics would have been a lot better, given the quality of the main dishes. Don’t judge by the exterior, it’s actually quite nice inside, and worth the stop.

The place got a makeover but the food didn’t. Overly salty, poorly prepared, the food disappoints each time I have gone. Like a fool I always think it has to get better, but it never does. Tonight took the cake. I ordered an entrée that the server came back and apologized it was unavailable. No big deal, I picked something else. To our surprise both entrees came out and there was no apology or any effort to take responsibility. I was charged for both dishes even though I only wanted one. We also had the scallion pancakes, dripping oil and not flaky, and garlic eggplant, which was drowned in soy sauce. Given the overall sad state of the Chinese food in Michigan I am giving this place two stars but there are many much better placed nearby.

We love eating here! Tons of vegan meals! We love the soybean skin roll and the sue pao plus the vegetarian hot & sour soup!

On a beautiful August day, my lunch partner and I decided to try this restaurant. Upon entering we noticed flooring or something being installed in the non public areas of the building. Workers seemed intent on spreading out into the dining area. Ok. When seated we asked for tea. No tea. Sorry. Person who makes tea was not in!(Really??). Then came the huge phone book menu. On the first pages one finds the easily accessible lunch combos. Good. Thereafter, eighteen pages of fantastic mainland Chinese offerings, arranged in logical categories. Since this was my first visit, I decided to try the reasonable lunch menu. Oh no. Lunch menu operates only Monday through Friday. This was a Saturday. No, they would not accommodate our request steering us toward the larger, more expensive eighteen pages. We politely declined and left. The one star may change when I return. Honestly, in such a foodie town as ours, more Chinese restaurants await before I return, which I will. Everyone has one of those misaligned days.

Food: Very good. Service: extremely bad. Last time we went to this restaurant, we waited nearly 40 mins until someone came to service us. And it was another 20 mins until we get water.

It has serval vegan/vegetarian options so it was wonderful! I loved it! I have zero complaints! Everyone was so nice and it was great.

Best and the most comprehensive authentic menu in Michigan. I figured out 2 things the hard way: 1. You have to go here with someone that knows szechuan food really good and doesn’t rely on menus. 2. You have to go there in a big group, small dishes don’t make sense for that culture… Unless you like General Tso’s chicken(then you should stop reading my reviews) Also, if you can EVERINYOURLIFE get a better prepared spicy szechuan beef or big fish, please email me.

Open on Tuesdays for takeout for board game night… except when you get everyone’s order together and Chia Shang won’t answer the phone. Ever.

This place is amazing if you order the Szechuan dishes. Went with some friends and ordered a bunch of things. Beware — everything is authentically spicy! The hot fish soup is incredible — soft, moist pieces of white fish in a tangy, spicy broth with cabbage, scallions and fresh ginger. Perfect for the cold weather, or if you have a cold. We also ordered the boiled beef — tender, huge pieces of beef that you pull out of a peppery red sauce. Get the«tender boiled beef» if you want smaller pieces of meat. My favorite dish though, was the mapo tofu with ground pork. One of the best mapo tofu dishes that I’ve had in the US. We also ordered some other standard dishes — people liked the scallion pancake, chicken egg roll and«sizzling trio» — chicken, beef, shrimp and veggies in brown sauce that came out on a hot plate. A wonderful meal, tons of leftovers, and very reasonably priced for a party of four.

Don’t go here. This restaurant was very terrible. –my booth was flimsy and I can feel the person sitting behind me lean back. –the twice cooked pork was awful. only a couple pieces of pork on top of a pile just to make it LOOK like it has pork –the shanghai ribs were terrible as well. I couldn’t bite the meat apart because it was that chewy… I had to put the whole chunk in my mouth to chew it up with my molars. –also, before I left the restaurant, the waitress pulled me back because she thought«my tip was wrong»…please… sorry, this is the honest truth.

3.5 stars. Met up for dinner with some of my sister’s friends who have been here before. After reading the reviews, I thought I was gonna have to test the limits of my stomach, but it was actually a pretty good meal! We ate family style and ordered four dishes. Eggplant with beef, pea tips with garlic, pork belly with fried tofu and spicy fish(Szechuan style). All of the dishes were pretty good, but the spicy fish was my favorite. It wasn’t as spicy as I’m used to, but still good! Dishes are a tad on the oily side, so you have been warned. This place isn’t anything special, just Chinese food in a very authentic Chinese setting, nothing fancy. Service was alright, it’s probably better if you have someone who speaks Mandarin. Everyone around us seemed to be regulars and native speakers and they enjoyed their food. Glad to have tried this place and it’s not a bad option for dinner!

Not very clean and the food is not yum at all. I have had many dishes and the only thing that doesn’t make me sick is their yogurt. I would get 4 cups to go even

Been here a lot of times, every time I’ve visited Ann Arbor in fact. Would have given it 5⁄5 stars in the past. But this last time we went, they brought us out the WRONG dish which was 8 dollars more than the one we ordered. Of course we instantly said this is the wrong dish. They knew it was their fault and sheepishly tried to say something like«both dishes have the same name but they are prepared differently» and some lame excuse like that. They made us pay for this $ 24!!! extra dish we didn’t even enjoy. I will never come back here, and I highly encourage no one else ever eat here. As others have said, horrible customer service.

Horrible food, nonexistent customer service, waiting staff rush their patrons as if they want them to leave as soon as they sit down. Rice was uncooked and so were the noodles. Mee Goreng that we ordered was too sweet and oily and looked like something else. Dumplings were 90% dough with minuscule stuffing inside. The tea that they served wasn’t even warm. Clearly the worst Chinese restaurant I’ve been to.

I really love this place. Say what you will – it seems people have a definite opinion on it already. But, it’s delicious. Order off the traditional Chinese menu and perhaps sample some of the Malaysian cuisine. The braised wo sun – a kind of «Chinese lettuce or celery” – is simple but just delicious. As is the Chinese squash. Good sides to accompany heartier mains – like ma po tofu, eggplant and pork hot pot, among many, many others. For some, the atmosphere and exterior may be off-putting, and no, it’s not elegant dining, or anything close to it. But the food and the tea is tasty and plentiful – and it feels just a little bit like eating in China, which for anyone who has experienced that, it’s an entirely different experience than the Americanized version.

The place is sort of old and and run down and interior décor is exactly as you would expect a mom and pop Chinese restaurant would be. Went with two Chinese friends from China who frequent and love this place. They did the ordering we shared family style. The dishes we got 1. Fish Soup and 2. Chicken with potatoes and carrots(potatoes REALLY? in a Chinese place that was a first!!) were huge. Enough to feed 4 people easily. The fish soup was alright, but the soup was oily — so I was told not to have too much of it, just fish out the fish then? The fish tasted sort of bland to me. I was told it was flounder(I highly doubt it!). The chicken dish was fit for an Indian King, because it looked just like Chicken curry except it wasn’t — joke’s on me. It was alright, but for $ 25 I think we got chicken leg and thigh(bone-in) no breast meat at all, I thought it was a rip off stacked on top of noodles and a mountain of potatoes. Well if that was«authentic» Chinese food I guess Americanized Chinese is better! I kid, because I’ve had the local food while in China and I thought it was pretty awesome. This was not, and no I could not bear to tell my two Chinese friends this, I just nodded and said I liked it. I bet lots of young Chinese people can’t tell the difference between good food and meh food. You never know their moms may have been bad cooks.
