I wish these guys followed the store timing as per their website.

If you are anywhere near, you MUST give Troyer’s a try. So far have had apple, rhubarb and cherry pie. All are delicious, probably because their crusts are excellent and the fillings are more fruit than gush. Doughnuts were great. Did not try the cinnamon buns because I don’t care for maple flavor, but they looked wonderful. === Since my last visit, I’ve tried the strawberry pie and cinnamon bread. Strawberry pie was heaven, cinnamon bread was just ok. I also took home some home made noodles that turned out, when cooked, to taste just like regular noodles. Fortunately my son is still in Wooster, so I can look forward to more Troyer’s pies. Next time I go, I’m going to bring a cooler so I can bring home some cream pies instead of just buying a slice to eat immediately.

Pros: Can’t go wrong with Amish country baking. Their cinnamon rolls are a must try as they are known for them. The pies are dangerously delicious since one slice usually results in the consumption of the whole pie. Prices can’t be beat. Cons: N/A

My mother told me that the best place to buy pies in the«Amish country» was Troyer’s. So, on our drive from West Virginia to her home in northern Ohio we stopped there. My mother is a wise woman. Rhubarb is my favorite pie in the world. As we approached the front door I couldn’t believe that that day’s pie on sale was… RHUBARB! But what I really couldn’t believe was the sale price…$ 5.99. I routinely spend that at the Starbucks in DC where I work on a venti coffee and a muffin. How in the world could a pie cost only $ 5.99? There was one left(it was an hour till closing). I said«Box it up!» and went on to pick up a half dozen(day old) assorted donuts, an angel food cake, a half dozen pumpkin bars(frosted with walnuts… also day old), and a half dozen dinner rolls. It wasn’t until I got back to Silver Spring, MD that next evening that nirvana set in with the first bite of my quarter slice(my lovely wife had the other quarter). From the first bite I knew I was experiencing something profound and special. My mouth was immediately flooded with the«zingyness» of the rhubarb followed by the creamy consistency of the custard base. But what really set it all off was the buttery lightness of the crust. This was the crust that all pie aficionados live for. While we easily could have consumed the entire pie in one sitting, I placed the remaining half in the refrigerator knowing it would be awaiting us for breakfast the next morning. What a breakfast it was… my quarter and coffee set me up for a work day that nothing could ruin. The only sadness came with savoring that last bite. I’ll be back in Apple Creek in two months and plan to have my Coleman cooler with me to fill up with as many rhubarb pies as it will fit. I don’t even care what the regular price of this pie is because Troyer’s Home Pantry’s rhubarb pies are PRICELESS.
