Love the Oysterfest special. Every dish I’ve had, has always been delicious. Only thing that is horrible is the customer service.

We ate here for Thanksgiving this year. It was very good. An interesting item on the menu was haddock done 12 different ways. I ordered the meal where you could pick any three. All three were fantastic. My husband had the crab cakes. Also highly recommended. The service was great. Forget those places by the mall and stop here for some great food!

I didn’t come here expecting modern décor or ambience, so I was not disappointed by the supper club atmosphere. We came with a large group so I got to try a lot. Some of the best things on the menu included the crab ragoon, the stuffed mushrooms, the haddock with English butter, and those ice cream drinks. Seriously?! If your on a diet, this is not your friend. Also, I‘m loving those cute older gents tending bar.

The first thing you will notice is the very outdated décor. The 1970’s called and they want their décor back. When you walk in, there was no one there to great us at the door. You had to walk past the bar to get to the hostess stand. The menu is way too big. Too many things to choose from. I did order the Prime Rib and I would say that it was really good. My friend ordered a shrimp appetizer that was drench in sweet sauce and on a bed of lettuce. It did not look appetizing. They need to trim down the menu, fix the décor and focus on the customer.

The red ox was outstanding. It’s charm was only outmatched by the diversity of the menu and quality of the food. The wines by the glass were good and didn’t suffer from the typical issues of poor selection or poor quality. I would definitely go back and highly recommend this place to people visiting Appleton!

Ok… where do I start? First of I’m not a big fan of supper clubs to begin with but thought I would try this out because it had good reviews. Unfortunately those reviews were wrong! The wine recommendation from the server was not what she said it was sweet instead of dryer and fruitier like we wanted! The homemade bread and honey butter was the ONLY good thing we had. We ordered the bacon wrapped scallops for an app. Let’s just say 2 of the 6 scallops were yellow I didn’t know scallops were yellow. The bacon of course was not cooked all the way and the scallops weren’t even close to seared as the menu stated. For an entrée we shared the garlic stuffed tenderloin paired with the bayou crab cakes topped with a twice baked potatoe… the only good thing was the potatoe. I literally took one bite of the crab cake and had to spit it out and hold back from puking. It was mostly breading and hardly any crab and if it was crab it was not fresh! The steak looked like meatloaf and tasted like it had been sitting out for a few hours! The clientele is an older crowd hence why it’s busy but to have 4 full pages for a menu including steaks and seafood they can’t make everything good! I recommend to the chef to cut the menu down by at least 2⁄3 and stick to what you can cook good! Too many chefs try to cook everything but that’s NOT what a restaurant is about! We will definitely NEVER go back to this restaurant or maybe we will… just for the bread! Oh btw I’m in the parking lot still of this restaurant writing this review because it was that bad!

I was recommended by the hotel lobby to come eat here. Spectacular food and service! I had the ribs and the other people at my party had the hallibut. We were both extremely happy and satisfied with the food. I recommend the double baked potato. The key lime pie for dessert was also very good. All that for a very good value! I couldn’t be happier! Great family owned restaurant.

Absolutely amazing. It gets better every time. They keep adding new and amazing flavor combinations. I have no clue where they get such great and creative ideas. You can’t get anything like it anywhere else, I’ve looked!

Fantastic food. Polite service. Not necessarily that busy, so take a chance for a drop in without a reservation.

The food and service is excellant. I had the chicken in a dark cherry sauce with almonds and wild rice, the dish is exquisite. As soon as I took I bite I could imagine this is the kind of food royalty must eat.

My husband and I had dinner at the Red Ox last night(Saturday). It was typical Saturday busy, but there was still seating available. First, the atmosphere was average supper club-ish, but the main drawback was the temperature. We were seated in the side room, which may be an addition– one that either has no heat or is not well insulated. I had a long sleeve shirt on with scarf, yet wore my winter coat through dinner for warmth. I was not the only diner wearing a jacket, either. If I pay $ 39 for a steak, I expect a comfortable enough atmosphere to eat said steak in. The ladies room was also gross, and could be smelled from the nearby bar. I am glad I didn’t sit at that section of the bar. Second, the service was okay. It wasn’t overly personal, but it was adequate. The server(also wearing a fleece pullover) didn’t review the specials and I had to ask about the potato and soup offerings. Third, the food itself… I had the bone in ribeye with mushrooms, twice baked potato and cheesy cauliflower. The meal started with a side salad which was rather bland. The tomatoes were winter pulpy, there were no cucumbers or other interesting veggies and the carrot shreds were minimal. The lettuce was fresh, at least. My ribeye steak with the sautéed mushrooms was a solid choice. The meat was perfectly cooked, and although I prefer more of a charred crust, it was decent. There was garlic butter dolloped in the middle to add some saltiness, which I appreciated. The twice baked potato was good, but I didn’t care for the cauliflower. My husband had the rack of ribs, which smelled delicious. He rated them as «ok»; he has had more tender elsewhere. The meal started with warm bread with honey butter, which was nice but didn’t quite make up for the temperature of the room. Last, the price, for the area, was on the higher end. I don’t mind paying well for a high end meal, but I expect the atmosphere and service to match.

This was my first visit and I was impressed. My friends had made reservations prior so I casually waited in the bar area, which was packed to the point where I had to stand in front of the door to the womens restroom. Once the rest of my party had arrived we were seated right away and asked if we needed drinks. Ordering went smoothly and I was impressed with our waitress who answered and made suggestions for one of our party who had a gluten allergy. The food was done well to the point of one of our party licking his pasta plate clean. We were asked if we wanted dessert and presented with a plate of desserts made from Manderfields. The only issues I had were other patrons just stopping and staring at us when trying to make our way from the dining room to the rest room. And the feeling that the servers were rushing us by sliding our plates in front of us pushing our soup/salad out of the way, including grabbing personal items and sliding/turning them to get them out of the way. Will more than likely return.

First class experience. The bartenders are great, the wait staff is exceptional, and the food is terrific. I live about a half hour from the ox, but whenever I need a top spot to take a client for dinner this is always my first choice. Give the diablo catfish with garlic mashed potatoes a try you won’t be disappointed.

A fine dining experience without the ridiculous cost. This establishment also has a much better appetizer and entrée selection than comparable supper clubs. It’s not stuck in the 70’s/80’s as most places are with their menu and décor. They offer 14 different ways to prepare haddock and if you can’t decide then you can pick a several on a plate prepared 3 ways. They Also serve excellent prime rib. If you get the chance, definitely stop in. Even if its just for lunch.

This place is a must if you’re in Appleton. A nice slow Sunday night with some Cajun ribs and a brandy old fashioned started my week off great. The bartenders know their art form. The place is old school and refreshing.

I’ve worked in the restaurant biz for quite a few years, and I hate giving a bad review, but unfortunately my experience at the Red Ox left much to be desired. Maybe it was a product of it’s long time success, as I may have expected too much… My wife and I hit up the Red Ox, as we have never been there, but heard and read solid things. Being a Friday night we had a short wait, so we sat at the bar. This is the one area where I would give them an A+. There were three older gents working the bar and we were assisted as soon as we sat down. I ordered a whiskey old fashioned sweet and my wife, a vodka cran. The old fashioned was made right before my eyes, the old fashioned way(no pun intended) muddled to perfection… When I say three older gents, that isn’t an insult, these guys were your classic super club barkeeps. Great/attentive service, offering a smile and a stiff drink… can’t complain about that! We were quickly seated after a short wait. The server was pretty quick to follow up and ask us if we needed another drink and took our order. Shortly after we ordered we were brought our salads and bread. The bread was awesome… made from scratch and unfortunately this is where the great experience turned south… After my wife and I finished our salads we sat for a bit, then a little longer… then much longer. We soon noticed that the two tables that were sat a good 10 – 15 minutes after us had already had there food. By the time we got our food the couple that was sat well after us had literally already finished their meal. Finally our waitress brought our meals; I had the Prime Rib and my wife had ordered a «haddock trio» One of the three types she ordered was the«jalapeño tempura» haddock, was different, but awesome. My prime rib left a lot to be desired… it was pretty fatty and luke warm at best Once the food was dropped off we literally didn’t speak to our waitress for about 30 minutes. I could tell she had a table somewhere on the other side of the restaurant, as I kept seeing her walk by that way, but we sat a long time waiting for a to-go box and a check. Finally she had a second to stop by, though she seemed in a hurry. She got us boxes and started to box our food, and at one point she took my wife’s potato skins away without boxing them, when my wife stopped her and said she wanted to take them home the waitress took the skins and put them in the box with the fish. The awkward part is that she grabbed the skins with her bare hands and threw them in the box… I’m not a germaphobe, but that, didn’t seem right… At that point we were ready to head out… Like I mentioned before, I don’t like giving a place a bad review, more then likely we just hit it on a bad night, with a server that was new, or super busy. The sad thing is we won’t be back as I’ve been to plenty of «Steak & Fish» style places(George’s, Dick & Joan’s, Black Otter, etc…) in the area that have offered a better experience than the one we experienced at the Red Ox

The Red Ox may be highlighting the steak and seafood in its name these days, and it’s still a supper club. I did not spend time at the curving elegant bar but my date had a bloody mary. It was spicy, strong, rimmed with oregano, chile and celery salt, garnished with a seven inch sausage. I had a diet coke. I ordered the muffuletta tenderloin, a newer menu item(the restaurant has been open since 1971, although a fire had them move) and my date got the princess cut prime rib. She’s my little princess and my little riblet so it was a perfect order for her. We got the salads with blue cheese dressing and she opted for a blue cheese crust on her prime rib. We like blue cheese. The warm bread was served with honey butter. She ended up taking home much of her prime rib mashed potato and bread. She said she would make me a prime rib mashed potato blue cheese sandwich later. I ate all of my muffuletta tenderloin and twice baked potato which also came with the vegetable of the day and that was eggplant parmesan. The server brought out the dessert plate and I ordered a caramel cream slice for here and a slice of cheesecake to go. The frosting was thick and buttery, the caramel salty, a layer of crunch gave it a beautiful texture. I would call satisfying, to say the least. When a restaurant has been around so many years they must be doing a lot of things right and here they are.
