If you’re searching for good pizza, I highly recommend skipping this place. I tried them for the first time tonight and their pizza was HORRIBLE!!! We got a large pepperoni, sausage and ½ mushroom pizza and it cost $ 19.21. The crust was thin, soggy and flavorless. The sausage had chunks of gristle in it and the sauce was mediocre at best. Ended up eating a bowl of Cocoa Pebbles for dinner instead — it was much more enjoyable.

The location is awesome since it is walking distance to where my office is. The service is exceptional, and the food is awesome for the price that you pay. I love the lasagna, spaghetti, and penne pasta with either the meatball or Italian sausage. The portions are big which is huge these days with the way our economy is today. Great cheap home cook meals are hard to come by!

This was pretty good pizza. I’d recommend it. It is not authentic NY style. Sorry, but no it’s not. The crust is a bit thick and puffy to be called NY style, or even thin crust. But we enjoyed it and would go back. Sauce was good, cheese was good. Crust was very chewy, which I generally like — maybe if they had put just a little crispiness on it, it might have been great.

We are on the quest for good pizza by our house. So far we love Zelo, and Costco for two very different reasons. Zelo is unique, on the high end, very tasty, but sometimes leaves you feeling heavy. Costco is pound for pound, the best deal around. 9.99 for a LARGE pizza? How can you beat that? So let’s get to Lamppost. We ordered the Lamppost combo, figuring that would be a good place to start. It came out to 19.99 delivered for a MEDIUM. Sooo, was it twice as good as Costco Pizza? I don’t think so. I would probably pay 15 bucks for it. The crust was definitely better than costco, crust can’t compare to Zelo cause it’s a totally different thing altogether. The sauce — I like Costcos better. Zelo doesn’t really use much sauce, so again, no comparison. The ingredients however were much fresher and tastier than costco. So that’s why it got 3 stars. It’s just OK to me. Next on the list is Sierra Madre Pizza Company and Village Pizzeria.

I’m from New Jersey, so me liking a pizza from this coast at all is a big deal(at least for me – haha). This is the only pizza that I will drive out to buy for my friends and myself. They have a great variety of specialty selections(try Pizza of the Gods – it’s got artichokes!), and their service is friendly. The place is certainly barebones; you don’t really eat there, but I like the fact that it’s all about the pizza anyways. Stand at the counter waiting to complete your order and you might snag a peek at their«Pizza» magazine. A whole magazine on pizza? What do they talk about? Well, at least the part that my boyfriend got a peek of, they talked about NYC pizza, and how it’s great possibly b/c of the water. «Bullcrap!» said the article, or some semblance of that sentiment. Ah, you gotta love pizza-lovers.

UPDATED May 2008: I had to revisit this review and dock them a star because they recently changed their crust for the worst. What had been a truly excellent crust, is not just passing ‘C’ grade material. A sad day, so alas, the search for the best pizza in the SGV continues. I recently tried a pizza delivery from Lamppost Pizza in my on-going(and generally disappointing) quest to find the best pizza in the SGV. I was really quite pleased with the quality and service from Lamppost. Great pizza is really a trifecta play, of course subject to personal taste on what one likes(ie some prefer thick crust, some thin, etc). For me this was excellent: THECRUST: thin, soft and just the right amount of chewieness, the kind that you really love to eat — no orphan uneaten crusts left on the plate here! THESAUCE: wonderfully tasty, not too much, not too little, and complemented the other ingredients nicely but did not overwhelm. THETOPPINGS: very fresh, a nice variety was available for selection, and the layout was generous and balanced. I have to say, so far this ranks #1 for the best pizza in the area I’ve found. Try it out!
