Bread was dry and hard, both sandwiches(pastrami and torta carnitas) had dry meat and lacked flavor. Not what we had hoped given the great ratings. Portions were generous and service good, but didn’t make up for a bad tasting meal.

Went hear during very busy time(Kinetic race). Place was mobbed and had been for hours but they still made a great sandwich and were very nice. Had the turkey, lots of produce a bit too much mustard.

Best sandwich I have ever had. The bread is so fresh, as well as all of the choices for your sandwich.

I used to come here as a kid for a treat or when I had a good report card. I do not live anywhere close now and I miss it. Since I could not find a Deli where I live that could live up to this one I opened my own and I still like this one better! Cheers.

Outstanding place, with great ingredients and just about everything you could want. I just wish they had a menu with pre-built sandwiches so I didn’t have to figure everything out myself!

I’m occasionally out voted for group lunches and end up here with a hand full of cash and the expectation that I’m about to eat an entire loaf of bread for lunch. While the meat to(delicious) bread ratio is way off, the sandwiches are pretty tasty(super brownie points that they make the tuna fresh for each sandwich!)…but there’s a lot to be said about the service. I always feel uncomfortable in here, like I’m intruding. Out of the 7 or 8 times that I’ve been here, there was only one employee who was actually nice, but she was still having an entire separate conversation with her coworker and ended up putting things on my sandwich that I didn’t ask for. They’re snippy on the phone for phone orders. They take forever to make your sandwich, during which they don’t wear gloves. They don’t take debit or credit cards, and for the love of God, DON’T ask for pepperoncini’s. I was told by an employee that the owner hates them, so I guess paying customers can’t have them either. They do have a really great drink selection, including alcohol, that I appreciate.

Love them! Much better than the one in Eureka(they are not associated). Friendly staff and amazing sandwiches!

I am a sandwich fanatic so I feel confident in saying that this place makes some of the best sandwiches in the entire world. The bread is great, the meats and cheeses are fresh, and the sandwiches are HUGE. No tiny portions here! I’d recommend splitting one with a friend as I can never seem to finish one by myself. I took my boss here when she was visiting and she liked the sandwiches so much that she bought 2.

I’m not really a sandwich fan(I know, I’m weird!) but Hole in the Wall makes excellent ones. They are a bit pricey, but considering I’ve never been able to each more than half of one in a sitting, the price spread across two meals is quite reasonable. The ingredients are always really fresh and the sandwiches are well-made. The staff has always been quite friendly when I’ve gone in. I really wish they’d take card though! The cash-only thing is pretty annoying.

Takes the phrase«hole in the wall» seriously. What a find!!! Drove up from LA to go check out Humboldt State. Found this place on Unilocal and decided to try it. Glad I did, sandwiches are huge! Everything is fresh and tasty. Our sandwich maker was awesome. He made the best looking and best tasting sandwiches. Will definitely go back whenever I’m in the area.

Stopped here on a coastal road trip and my sandwich was huge and so fucking good it was unreal. This is the way sandwiches were meant to be! Loved the brio roll. Excellent selection of beverages and very friendly service. What a little treasure.

This restaurant keeps coming up as gluten free, but when I went there, this doe eyed worker stared at me dumbfound when I asked about it. There are no gluten free options here, and in fact, I was heavily insulted about my food allergy at this place. That simpleton told me that if I stuff the sandwich full enough, I wouldn’t notice it was gluten. When I told her I’d get vomiting and diarrhea from eating wheat, she stared at me again with that dumb look and had no sympathy, assuming I was a lying fad follower. If you have a gluten intolerance, you will find no love here.

I was a little disappointed after reading great reviews. It’s a sandwich shop with a pretty basic menu. I had a Cobb sandwich with too much dressing on it. Kids had better sandwiches like the Reuben and chicken Parmesan. Staff was very friendly, so we enjoyed the experience, just don’t expect too much.

This is a tiny spot. If you’re walking around looking for it. Follow the map to a small green building on a corner. But they do make great sandwiches. It started off with the choices you get to make. Then finishes with the quality of their meats and cheeses and bread. When you’re done having your sandwich made. Walk over to the city square. And be ready to treat your taste buds to a wonderful experience. If I ever find myself in Arcata again, I know exactly where I will have lunch again.

First off, it really is a tiny little ‘hole in the wall’ as for the size but inside it is packed with delights from an amazing drink selection to high quality meats and sandwich choices. The owners and their staff are super friendly and welcoming which made it that much better! On to the sandwiches – yummers! We enjoyed the muffalottas and corned beef Sammies-each loaded with meat, cheese and a variety of choice condiments we added to make the sandwiches our own. They were delightful and filling. Great bread including a choice of Dutch crunch which we do love on our Italian meat sandwiches. We were heading through from our camping trip in the redwoods and needed a quick but delightful lunch break and this was the perfect place just 2 minutes(or less!) off the 101. Stop in and see these lovely gals! Such a treat.

I had a delicious sandwich here. A ton of different combinations to choose from. I got a roast beef with jalapeños on one of their rustic breads. It was fantastic but hard to fit the whole sandwich in my mouth. Good for picking up orders, no seating except for outside. A huge selection of chips and drinks.
