I’ve been going to this place for over 20 years and it has really went down hill. It used to be so good. They are extremely slow and waitstaff is inattentive. Small portions. The zucchini and onions now has broccoli and carrots mixed, not a fan. Everyone at our table was disappointed they don’t serve the sweet carrots anymore. If you are a fan of the white sauce be careful because they are stingy with it. I was still hungry when we left and I’ve always had leftovers. It’s just sad that they have changed so much and you can tell they are trying to save a dollar. Won’t be back.

Bring a flashlight. Dark like Hollister and Abercrombie. Overpriced food. It disturbed me that the chef was not Asian. They cooked on a grill in front of me. It’s an awkward situation when you go to a Japanese Steakhouse with just your boyfriend, or just one other person. It’s better in a group. That way you understand why the other people are laughing while you watch them eat across the table from you. The sushi tasted weird to me. Like it was overcooked. Then we were charged normal price for the sushi that was supposed to be half off on Father’s Day, but maybe that was just a logistical malfunction. What I disliked was that the waitress couldn’t deduct the bill, so she said to use the money for tips. I disapprove. What if we didn’t have that money to tip? Our order was tiny. We split one entrée.

I came back to this place after leaving the area and was I disappointed, the place was empty and the hostess wasn’t friendly or really sure about anything. The food wasn’t as good as it was when I used to go every weekend to eat there. The only bright spot was the man who came to the table(I think he was Italian) and he was very funny. Other than that save your money, this place has new management who isn’t putting any money into his place.

This by far is the worst Japanese I’ve ever tasted. None of the food was fresh. Everything had a frozen taste to it. The hostess was very unprofessional and her dress was so short that when she bent down to get the menus you could see her underwear. The waitress wasn’t very friendly either and the cook didn’t have any personality to him at all.

I don’t understand all the hype. Yes, they cook I front of you. Yes, the portions are large, but the food isn’t that great. Honestly, I was very excited to visit this place, but sadly learned that it’s nothing special and very overpriced! The food was not of good quality at all. There are other Japanese restaurants that serve much higher quality of food in the area that I recommend trying before you visit Yoshida. I know the idea of having a chef cook in front of you may seem exciting, however, our chef barely spoke with us. Overall, it wasn’t an awful experience, however, I won’t be returning because Asheville has a selection of much nicer restaurants to chose from.

Good lunch. I had the Chicken Bento Box w/steamed rice/edamame(which they forgot, mistakes happen)/rangoon and the California Roll. My friend got– the Steak Bento Box w/fried rice and egg roll. We were both very happy and the bill came to $ 39.00 including the tip.

We go here once or twice a year as a special treat, and it was wonderful as always. Always so much food that I have leftovers for the next day!

The meat here is really great. From the fish all the way to the steaks, the meats are all tender and juicy. When I went, one of the guests at the table was allergic to seafood. Since all the main dishes come with a little shrimp and some other people ordered fish, he got his order of chicken cooked separately. It was pretty funny when the chef offered to give him some shrimp and he blocked his plate and said I don’t want to die! Although I didn’t see any Asians working at this fine establishment that is named Yoshida Japanese Steakhouse, I thought the food was not bad. Apparently, they add a little Teriyaki and soy sauce to make the meat taste a little Asian. They have the standard fire volcano and other various mini shows to entertain guests that all teppanyaki places have.

I have been eating at Yoshida ‘s for years. Be prepared for seating with no back support. The open grill will leave food smell in your clothes. The wait can be 10 – 40 minutes(its worth it). You may sit next a future best friend as the seating is completely random, unless you come with a group large enough to take up the complete table. The food is always great. The filet is my favorite. The regular steak is thin and is hard for the chef to prepare medium rare. The shrimp and chicken have great flavor. The sauces are the best i have ever had at a Japanese steak house. Try the house«Ginger» dressing. It has a very nice blend of flavors that are not overpowering. Ask for chef Whichit, he has been there for over 25 years. Great staff, great taste, great food. This is and has always been Asheville’s favorite Japanese restaurant. I am giving it a five star rating mainly how it stacks up against other Japanese restaurants that cook in front of you plus I hVent had one bad experience or food here in 20 years.

I was thoroughly pleased with my experience. My wife and I went this past Saturday for lunch and when we got there it was depressingly quite and lacking in business. However, our server Lisa Marie was quick to make us smile while being very informative about the menu and being a wealth of knowledge about the cuisine in general. Now, let us talk about the food. We both ordered the steak bento box well done and got some crab rangoon for an appetizer. Everything was delicious, but the sauces and the ginger dressing really stood out and were delicious. I highly recommend making a trip for lunch or dinner. Thanks to the staff for such an enjoyable experience.

As I’ve said many times before, I reserve my 5s for the best I can get in town, and this place takes that prize in Asheville as far as Japanese steakhouses go. The amount of food was amazingly good for the price, and they were kind enough to make the fried rice without any onions, which always makes me happy. Everything was cooked well, and our chef was delightfully pleasant :)

We were visiting Asheville for the weekend and wanted to find a Japanese Steakhouse. We chose Yoshida and were not disappointed! Oddly enough there were mostly Americans working there, but everyone there was so nice and engaging. They truly went out of their way to accommodate you. Food portions were huge! Also, our kids really enjoyed themselves. The only negative I could think of would be the interior décor could be better.

Food over cooked and over seasoned with too much salt and soy. Both steak and chicken cooked too long. Person cooking was flashy with tools but lacking the panache of Japanese trained cooks. He was repeatedly crass with his comments even saying several times he would not eat this food and that he ate meatloaf or Italian food(lasagne) out the back. The whole experience was disappointing. We have eaten this type of food many times in the US and this is the worst experience we have has. Not recommended. Don’t go there.

Wonderful place, wonderful people!!! Your typical delicious Japanese steakhouse food but with the most wonderful people working there! We’ve had this young waiter who’s been more than excellent everytime we’ve ever went, this funny, outgoing chef they call«white boy», and this sweet Asian gentleman who I think said him and his family have been here for 15 years or maybe had been working there 15 years, can’t remember… The point is we LOVE all of them! Much better than mikado(remembering one specific time my family and I went long ago, where we had a white server, who was sweet, yes, but put on a HYSTERICAL asian accent– and had an ozzy tattoo on his wrist! WHAT!!) We had one host/server who encouraged me to go out of my comfort zone with their little beginner salad and try the ginger salad dressing instead of the ranch I was set on, I could not have been happier she did! I now order it everytime. Also, I love the onion soup(isn’t that what it’s called??). Which I love anywhere almost… But when my boyfriend and I go we share a plate, it is a LOT of food. We get the shrimp and chicken plate which we love, and it’s not that expensive for all the delicious food they give you! I drench everything in the white sauce(it goes good on everything), but I ditch the carrots and give them to my boo, I’m not a fan of sweet carrots. But I can’t say it enough! We love this place! We haven’t been in forever and for a minute we were trying to go every week, I can’t wait to go back!!! Hope our server and our chefs are still there!

We were first time visitors [tourists in Asheville] and we dine out frequently, as we travel a lot… I rely on reviews for restaurants, so hence the reason for this one. We simply didn’t get what we paid for… much better places to eat in Asheville !! Asheville has so many choices for steak or seafood, it’s simply not worth the price for the teppanyaki show, if you also want a great meal. A great meal it was not! We [a couple] were seated with a family of 6…[you have no choice for seat companions] We ordered a different entrée than they did, [filet mignon for us instead of their«steak», but when it was cooked, it was piled all together and served willy nilly to everyone at the table… and although we also ordered shrimp with the entrée, we did not receive any entrée shrimp… We got a tiny portion of the small shrimp appetizer [salad size] that everyone at the table got… when we questioned our waiter about the omission, he basically told us we didn’t know what we were talking about, we must have received it without knowing it??? I don’t think I’m that clueless yet. That is a very bad mistake to make in service… The food was heavily sauced with soy, overly so, and the salad shrimp appetizer was underdone, which made it very unappealing. I did enjoy the fried rice, but you can get fried rice at lots of places, much more reasonably priced. The onion soup was delicate, the green tea I ordered was good, but the waiter never offered me a refill on it, even though the pot was empty. I would only recommend this place IF you were a large party who all ordered the exact same thing, and loved soy sauce. Two nights previous, we had fabulous steak at the Texas Roadhouse near Biltmore Estate, which was a cheaper meal, with great service. And we’d had a great meal on the Biltmore Estate at The Loft there… two places I do highly recommend.

I can’t say that I had high expectations, the last time I went here was close to 10 years ago. We only went because we thought our young son would find the cook entertaining — which he was. The food was below average. Overcooked chicken, soggy overcooked vegetables, and really bland fried rice. I would not recommend this place. The hostess, waiter, and cook were all very nice and attentive. Thus, the 2 stars.

As always, Yoshida was a treat. Our food was fresh and delicious ~ and cooked right in front of us(Teppenyaki-style) with plenty of flair! Though our mixed vegetables were slightly overcooked, the shrimp was nicely done with just the right amount of seasoning. The fried rice was especially tasty, too. We also ordered the Vegetable Tempura appetizer, which was perfectly prepared, served piping hot and came with a wonderfully salty and sweet dipping sauce. Yoshida is consistently good and provides a lovely atmosphere. Recommend!

Ask for Dave. He’s my favorite chef. Also, the owner’s daughters who work there are so cute. The food is delicious, a little on the expensive side of course. It’s a great place for a special occasion with a tad bit of entertainment.

I worked in Asheville for a few months and Yoshida was one of my favorite stops! My favorite is the hibachi chicken with the white sauce! If I could inject the sauce in my vains I would… It is awesome! Green tea next door and Yoshida are two great stops!
