My boyfriend and I just moved to the area and discovered this place and wow! What an experience. We usually never stay out for more than a few hours but didn’t want to leave! It was a great time.

Astoria has noticeably changed in the past few years. Although it is still as ethnically diverse as ten years ago, if not more so, the hipsters are now among the, shall we say, «midsters», thereby allowing both the young and the young at heart to walk the streets of Astoria. Indeed, for the past couple of years, plaid and skinny jeans have become more visible apparels of choice in the neighborhood. There is one place though where both the young and the young at heart are united in walking. After all, tango is said to be nothing more than walking. At Astoria Tango Club, young and old alike respect the rules of tango as well as enjoy the delightful food cooked by Circulo Espanol. During Sundays, any one who wants to attend the milonga can pay $ 10 and there is a free tango class at the beginning around 6:00 p.m. The head instructor, Mariana Fresno is an absolute delight! She will welcome any student and will patiently teach and answer questions. What are you waiting for? Put on those dancing shoes!

A great social and ethnic club. $ 10.00 gets you an hour long dance lesson and people in this community were very welcoming. Plenty of practice and then the real fun begins when skilled dancers take the floor and are eye candy for the rest of us still learning. The food was also great to boot — tortilla espanola, calamari, garlic shrimp — great Spanish tapas to keep you fueled and on your toes, and heavier fare if you’re hungry. Will be going back!

I went to Astoria Tango Club to practice tango as a beginner. I thought I would learn most in my class and practice a little at the Club. To my surprise, I ended up learning a lot more at Astoria Tango than at any classroom. From 6:00pm to 7:00pm they offer a class for beginners and then lot’s and lot’s of practice until late night. All for $ 10.00. In addition, the food is great, a table’s easy to get, and the most important — people are very kind and friendly. So on Sundays, I am traveling from New Jersey all the way to Astoria. Wouldn’t go that far if it wasn’t worth it.

Astoria Tango Club is one of the best ways to experience Tango dancing in New York. Hosted by the highly talented professor and dancer Mariana Fresno, you will be able to learn the tango steps before the Milonga starts. It is a big, comfortable place where you can also have food and wine, at reasonable prices. Occasionally with«old-school» orchestras in live, the atmosphere is much more than partying in an amazing ambiance. It is the mystical experience of being in a place that keeps inside a big piece of Buenos Aires’ heart. In Astoria Tango Club you will be able to make not only friends, but be part of a big family. For sure you are not going to be disappointed. Don’t miss it!

I have not been to Buenos Aires but every person who comes here says that this is as close as it gets to the real Argentine tango. Good food and wine at reasonable prices and table service if you wish to opt for it. Come alone or with friends and you will always feel welcome by the wonderful hosts Mariana and Pulpo. There is an occasional live band performance!
