We were recommended to come here when I inquired about a great place to have whole crab and oysters on the half shell. We got there, I looked at the menu and I didn’t see anything that resembled what I had mentioned we were in the mood for. I saw a lot of fried food. The view is nice, as it looks out on the inlet and across to the Washington side of the Columbia River. We waited about 15 minutes for waters and a server to come over. When she did, she was pleasant, but when I inquired about the whole crab and oysters on the half shell, she told me she didn’t know anyone around that had oysters on the half shell. I decided to leave at that point, as I am not a big fried foods consumer and wasn’t in the mood for fish and chips. Also, I am sitting in the middle of a river close to the ocean where oysters are harvested by the tons every single day and she just told me she doesn’t know of anyone with oysters on the half shell? Yeah, felt a little shady. So, we left, drove down the pier for about, oh, half a mile, ended up at Northwest Production and promptly ordered 12 oysters on the half shell, a whole crab platter and amazing clam chowder. Yeah, they caught the crab that morning and the oysters had come in the night before. The clam chowder was made from the razor clams in the bay and well, apparently, they knew someone who does oysters on the half shell… everyday!

Pros: fried halibut Cons: EVERYTHINGELSE!!! Worst restaurant experience in my whole life. I’m humiliated for them. The owner was rude, told us where and how to seat our children upon arrival. Whoa! We over counted our group by one, the entire restaurant was empty and she came over to take a table where someone was and moved them to the end of a full table because«they were expecting a large group» which never showed up and we ended up being the only table left in the establishment. We were not treated like guests or patrons, we were treated HORRIBLY! They made sure they did everything to make the whole experience miserable for us because our kids were not sat where she thought they should be and boy oh boy did they succeed! Everything from the service to the food. I would not recommend this place to anyone. This place is old, stinky, dirty and if that’s not enough the owner/service was even worse! Don’t waist your time for the money spent here. Period.

This afternoon, a friend and I stopped here, and were left disappointed. The waitress we had acted like we were an inconvenience and ignored us. A couple times she looked at me when I tried getting her attention, but walked past our table. The quality of our food was not great. Nora’s shepherd pie was bland, and I ordered the combination. I don’t have high standards for fried fish. You batter it, you fry it, it’s usually a greasy heart attack waiting to happen. So I was surprised the fried stuff wasn’t good. The fried fish was tough, and the rest was undercooked. If I wasn’t so hungry, I’d have sent it back. But worst – and this’ll seem like a tiny thing – is the puny shrimp cocktail. $ 8.25 for three modest bites of the tiny little shrimp. It came in one of those tiny little ice cream dishes, the kind you see at buffets, the itty bitty ones that really limit how much ice cream you’ll be able to serve yourself. That dish was filled with an iceberg lettuce mix with a very small amount of shrimp on that. I don’t know why that bothers me so much. Maybe because I feel so much more ripped off than with the other things. Also, an extra slice of lemon is $ 1(I’m not kidding), and those after-meal mints that everywhere else that has them given complimentary also came at a price. I actually want a refund. I also feel the need to say something about the bathroom. While it was clean, it was extremely small. You go in, and there’s a sink, and a single stall, but the whole room was so small that, if two people were in there, you couldn’t be farther apart than about 2′. When I was in there, a woman came in, then went back outside to wait. If you’re in a wheelchair, you aren’t going to be able to use the bathroom without someone carrying you. Your chair literally can’t fit. A walker would probably not fit either. I’m a size 2 and was cramped, so if you’re a larger person, you’re going to be very cramped. I’ve been in bathrooms on airplanes that were wider than the stall. There’s no way the bathroom is ADA-compliant, and it’s probably a lawsuit waiting to happen.

2 years ago, my dad, brother and I went on a day trip to Astoria. We went to the Goonies house, that really cool tower and we climbed to the top, and out to fort Stevens. It was a great sunny day and getting close to dinner and this is where we ended up. Omg the halibut fish and chips were amazing, my brother and I got half orders and my dad a full which I’m pretty sure, we were all eating off at the end it was so much food and sooo good. I ate every bite of the hot flaky fish and the perfect chips and coleslaw and all the tartar sauce even omg soo good! I am coming back in a week or two and can’t wait!

Senior order of cod & chips was good. Hubby ordered half order for twice the price. No complaints on tastiness but Hubby’s plate had a hair on it. It was on the plate, at the bottom of the meal so he had eaten the fish already and was working off the fries. He called the server over and showed her the hair. No comment. No visit from the chef. Or manager. No change to the ticket. No apology at all. While we did enjoy the fish, we won’t be back. Hair on the plate is a deal breaker for us. It should be for the restaurant as well.

Ordered the half order seafood combo with French fries and coleslaw. Costing was great and wouldn’t clung to the food, kept falling off. Coleslaw, tasteless All I can really say is. .. mediocre. That’s it. My main question is always«would you order it again?». Answer is no.

Great old school place! Came in hungry, split a half order of the combo fish and chips with my partner and am leaving full. Fantastic views, good local beer and classic cocktail selection.

Their clam chowder is AWESOME! Husband and I split a full order of halibut, cod, oysters, scallops. So much we could not eat it all.

Had the fish and chips. The half order was three large pieces. They were as good as others said. Best I have ever had. Not greasy at all. Served with cokes a and fries. Sat at a table with a magnificent water view. What more can you ask. Very affordable too. Watch the mapping though since we were sent up the hill to a residential area by the mapping. Go by the written address. It is on the waterfront.

Chowder: Not bad, not great either. Big rounds of potato, decent amount of clam… big chunks in a fairly watery chowder broth. If canned Campbell’s chowder and potatoes au gratin had a baby… this is it.(Bouy Brewing and Charlie’s Chowder are where it’s at for chowder.) Fish n chips: We got the full combo; which was two of each of shrimp, oyster, scallop, cod, and halibut. The cod was slimy yet dry and meh, don’t get only the cod if you go there. Halibut was far superior, but still not amazing. The scallop, shrimp, and oyster were better and less often on a menu. Curious about trying the squid! If you only go to one place for fish n chips, definitely go to the Bow Picker though! Tough to beat. The wedge fries were not worth their caloric intake. Greasy, lacking flavor, with a weird texture.(Potentially frozen.) If you happen to like them, there were oodles! Ship Inn only has a couple beers on tap. Nice view and a fireplace too!

Well the only thing worth the expense was my company and the view. I ordered the bangers and mash… bangers were alright, mashed potatoes not only were cold but also instant. I eod say the food did not match our $ 55 bill for a dinner for two who ate fish and chips and bangers and mash.

Wow that was the worst meal I’ve ever had. The French dip is literally grey meat on a plain French roll with a watery beef broth. The service wasn’t bad… She was attentive, but NOT at all pleasant. Definitely not coming back here ever again.

Food was good but portion size was small for the price. Would not go back. Had half an order due to the price. I had shrimp and chips. My husband had halibut, half order small and full order expensive.

This place feels like the Astoria institution it is with nautical themes that avoid being kitschy by dint of their age and understatement. In a town known for seafood, the fish and chips were somewhat underwhelming by comparison to the amazing fare available elsewhere. Especially as the fries tasted like the frozen variety. That said, if this food were inland it would compare more favorably. Without a doubt the view is the best feature of the restaurant, good enough to come back occasionally despite other considerations. The service was quite good, and the price point reasonable. All told, I’ll be back. But only occasionally.

I used to live in Oregon and made it to Astoria once or twice a year and always ate here. Now, I live in California and only get up there every 2 – 3 years, I still always make it over there for the food. Fried Calamari and Fish and Chips are the highlights. The steak fries are delicious. The bar had a perfect variety of domestic and foreign beers. I have spent my life on a quest for the perfect fried calamari and without doubt this place has the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly fried so that it’s still tender. It’s…perfection. The view. The view. The view. Riverside on the Columbia River. During evening you watch the sun set and it’s like eating your dinner in a dreamscape. This place was built in the early 70’s and it’s got a pleasantly retro vibe, like The Goonies might pop in the door for the lunch special. Sit back relax and enjoy a great meal with a perfect view. I am a lifelong fan of the Ship Inn.

This place is disgusting! Everything(food, kitchen and carpet included) is old and greasy. The wait staff makes out with each other and smokes during breaks and doesn’t wash their hands afterwards. The staff is constantly bickering with each other which creates a negative atmosphere. The entire building smells like old greasy food, and I’m pretty sure the only clean areas are the table tops. Many other, and better, places to go for food in the area! Everyone serves fish and chips!

My mother is a «fish and chips» fanatic. Cod or halibut only. My cousin said this is their go to place in town for a ½ order of fish and a cup of clam chowder. The outside is is a cedar shingled, and the inside is obviously ocean and fishing themed with posters of pacific sea life and boats etched into glass partitions. The main dining area was a little dingy and a little, messy I guess. Just simple things like chairs not being pushed in nicely. The menu is small, but to the point. And of the British food fair portion, only two were actually available(steak and kidney and shepherds pie). All of us got a cup of clam chowder and while they all had variations of the half order of fish and chips(most with halibut, one with cod). I settled on a shrimp salad. The clam chowder is definitely home made. And really a good version. But I have to say, the 1000 island and my shrimp salad really hit the spot. Fresh and flavorful bay shrimp piled high on yummy greens. With radish, carrot, tomato and hard boiled egg garnish. My parents, as newbies here, were very happy with their fish. I was going to sneak a bite, but it was gone before I got to it. The server did her job, just without too much enthusiasm was all. But we got what we needed. Would I come back? Definitely. The atmosphere may be a bit outdated, but the food and location make up for the lack of atmospheric sparkle.

Quarky little place with dining, overlooking the Columbia River as it empties into the Pacific Ocean, as well as the impressive Astoria-Megler Bridge. Overly friendly service at this little locals joint, complete with Cheers-like regulars, posted belly up to the bar as if they had their own placard in place. You will be noticed as an outsider, immediately upon arrival, yet will be made to feel as welcome as anyone else, soon thereafter. The chowder was decent, filled to the brim with meaty clams! The halibut fish and chips [and tartar sauce] were spot on, as well. Small, but excellent local beer selection.
