My husband and I stopped in for dessert during a recent stay, but weren’t very impressed. We had the Deconstructed S’more, which was very small for the $ 8 price tag. There wasn’t anything wrong with it, but it wasn’t impressive either. It’s probably what you would expect from a hotel restaurant.

It’s was so bad I did not even want to write this review. Food very so so; –kids quesadilla… Had no Queso! Only the. dilla –did not hear us say dressing on the side instead instead it was swimming in dressing. — ranch dressing = was blue cheese No refills on time Just over all disappointing. PS: The one good thing is that I got to say to my Wife«I told you so» because before we walked in I had a bad feeling! See listen to the Angry Pepper! Pepper out!

Take of two cities. Came here a few times during my most recent stay. It’s a busy sports bar in a hotel so you get what you get. First visit was great because of the server, very attentive. Came back 2 hours later for dinner and my server could not have been more clueless — if I caught fire it would be 20 minutes before she noticed. The food was totally average, lots of soggy stuff. Good if you are in the hotel but if looking for a good meal this ain’t your place.

Took extremely long to order and even longer for the food. Price did not reflect in the quality of the food or service.

Ate at the bar, stop it! The bar tenders were amazing, the ribeye was to die for! I really love this place, nothing too simple our too difficult for these guys! A fun atmosphere with great products!

We only had the veggie burger, fries and steamed broccoli but it was very good. Service was good. No problem getting a table even though the hotel was crazy busy. Maybe it was an off hour or many outside eatery’s near by but if you here and don’t want to leave the hotel you can’t go wrong. They had a nice large bar as well.

You can find High Velocity at the Downtown Marriott Marquis — this is that pregnant-looking hotel next to the Downtown Hyatt Regency that acts as the headquarters for much of what happens during Dragon*Con. Parking is pretty much up to valet service during D*C, however there are some lots nearby that aren’t too expensive. What I do is leave my truck at Chamblee or Doraville station and take MARTA to Peachtree station and walk down the hill — that’s my normal method to get into town as I lack the patience to deal with the traffic, the parking and the costs associated with the latter(parking can be really expensive during Dragon*Con). I’ve had many occasions to eat at High Velocity — it’s no mistake that I mention Dragon*Con so many times in describing this restaurant, as it’s a very popular venue during that event. It’s right on the atrium of the Marriott Marquis which is one of the main stages of Cosplay during the event. As such, it’s continually packed during the prime-times(Friday-Sunday) and very busy from Wednesday-Monday). High Velocity is more of a bar or pub than what you would think of as a regular restaurant and as such, the food tends to be more something you would find at a bar — your basic burgers, sandwiches and the like. When reading reviews of this place there’s quite a difference of opinion on the quality and service. As with any event-hosting hotel restaurant, there’s a high degree of variability dependent of when you visit. For me, I accept the fact that the food will take a long time and I come in with that expectation. I also expect the food to be mediocre with a few standouts — I’ll describe what I’ve found below. First and foremost, visit High Velocity when you’re trapped in the hotel and it’s difficult to impossible to get away during events. For this, the restaurant excels(as hard as it is to get to the venue during D*C it’s even harder to get away — the Über drivers and taxis have a hard time coming in to pick you up and just about all the nearby restaurants will be packed with convention visitors). During those times there will not be tables and the wait will be quite long — what I do is sidle up to the bar and have a pint– often there’s a seat available or shortly available after I’ve sipped down my beer. The beer selection is above average for this area with several craft of near-craft brews — I usually stick with a Sweetwater 420, a Goose Island IPA, a Sierra Nevada IPA, Guinness Stout or my favorite of this group the Terrapin Hopsecutioner. Sometimes they’ll have something better but really, any of these will do for me. Once seated I usually stick with the sandwiches — the burgers and chicken sandwiches are all quite good and the fries are freshly cut(skin on) and not bad. The little side-salad is pretty weak but passable. Two entry standouts are the ribs(the full rack is a double portion and worth the extra $ 4. It’s not your standard smokey Southern style — more of a pull-apart with standard BBQ sauce, but quite filling and much more than I expected) and the chicken pasta(this is on their regular menu and not on the D*C menu). And while the food mentioned above is passable, the real, real treat are the desserts and in particular the Chocolate Nachos(while the HITME Cake is good, the Nachos are exceptional). We end up eating several of these as a group, usually late night after the main rush. «Huge portion of cinnamon sugar tortillas, chopped Baby Ruth bars, vanilla ice cream, marshmallows, dark chocolate sauce, cherries, whipped cream, serves up to four people» — I don’t know who dreamed up this dish but it’s exceptional — just make sure you have a couple of friends nearby to share it — 4 – 6 seems to be a good total number. Service is all over the place. I think the bartenders are the most kind, especially after you tip a buck on the first drink(seems there’s a lot of D*C guests in attendance that don’t tip). Be warned that it may take some time for you to get your food and compensate for it. (also posted to my food blog)

I only had a double cheeseburger to go while I was staying at the Marriott Marquis, but the burger was sooooo delicous, juicy, and flavorful I had to give it five stars. The fries were crispy and hot and just as yummy as the burger. The meal was large enough to share with my ten year old daughter and left us feeling full. The service was great too. Highly recommend.

A good sports bar: good craft beer offerings on tap, decent pub food @ a reasonable price; lots of TVs & sports TV savvy staff. Was overwhelmingly busy during the convention I attended & couldn’t find a seat @ the bar & didn’t want to wait in the long lines for tables. Had to stand @ the bar. Staff was efficient. Was able to get a seat the other less busy times I was there.

For a good stop to eat during the middle of Dragon Con, this is one of the closest restaurants that you’ll most likely get your whole group to come to. Nice servers, quick foods. Great friends to eat with.

This seems to always be our go-to place when we are at Dragoncon. The food is okay. The ribs were definitely tender and fell of the bones but after the 5th rib it started to get way way too salty and the fries were not crunchy. The dessert was nothing spectacular. Dragoncon is a very busy time of the year, and so the service was slow. But its a good place to eat and drink and watch the games!

Great restaurant and bar in Marriott Grande Marques. I had the old school double cheeseburger and it was great. Friendly staff and the drinks were good. More of a sports bar with a lot of televisions.

Above average hotel pub-ish food(with above average prices to match). I stayed at the Atlanta Marriott and High Velocity is one of the restaurant options — it’s less expensive than Sear next door. They serve fairly standard bar food — apps, sandwiches, burgers and a few entrees. I appreciate that all burgers can be ordered with beef, turkey or veggie patties. I ate here a few times during my stay and thought the food was average to above average in general. Turkey burger — okay(Sysco patty), Cuban(pretty good, not greasy), and nachos(I liked them a lot but my group was pretty intoxicated). Service was above average on all my visits — the people that work here seem genuinely friendly and hospitable. The atmosphere is a little nicer than your standard sports bar — there are tons of TV’s but it’s not loud at all. Overall, I generally avoid hotel restaurants but there’s not a lot in the immediate area that isn’t a chain or in a hotel, so High Velocity is not a bad option if you’re staying in the hotel.

Mostly disappointing visit to the bar in the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. Stopped in for a light dinner on Saturday and ordered a Caesar salad and the pork sliders plate. The good news — fries were hot and tasty with crispy outside and creamy insides. The salad starter made me appreciate the fries. The lettuce looked precut and straight out of a bag. The lettuce was room temperature. The croutons were mushy. The shaved cheese was nice but I was doubting its origin too. I scraped the soggy croutons to the side and made it a point to tell the server. I suggested the kitchen check the croutons. I demonstrated by picking one up and squeezing it so liquid dripped out. I got an OK as my plate disappeared. No apology. No seeing if there was anything I needed. The pork sliders were OK. The buns had a variety of different textures from soft to bagel-like. The cole slaw was straight out of a bucket from the Sysco commissary. Wasn’t looking for groveling or a free meal but a bit more attention to food quality might make the staff less immune to customer service issues.

My goto restaurant during the annual Dragon*con and MomoCon. Triple sliders are great 4 to choose from, beautifully presented with upbeat staff and service. Feeling lonely? sad? don’t worry, you’ll leave with a smile. Nachos with chili is the second monster nachos next to the Chocolate nachos. Homemade guac and sour cream is making the nachos to look handsome. I can eat a lot, but it’s too large for one person, so bring a friend or a group. Chocolate nachos, well it’s not all that chocolaty, the piece of chocolate candy and chocolate sauce is the only chocolate. Cinnamon sugar coasted tortilla chips topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, pieces of chocolate bar, cherry but not the fresh kind, it’s the kind you find in a cake. drizzled with chocolate sauce.(i recommend the following substitution, fresh strawberries over cherry, chocolate ice cream over vanilla.)

I only ate at this restaurant while I was staying at the hotel for the Steve Harvey Neighborhood Awards. The shrimp tacos was so good I had them everyday I was there and my bartender Kevin was the best. They didn’t serve sangria so Kevin offered to make me one and let me tell you it was wonderful, it gave me life lol. The next time I’m in ATL I will be stopping by

Gave this joint another try, since there are only two eateries to select from at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. I’ve changed my rating from 1 to 3 stars this time, because service was much faster this time, more friendly, and the food didn’t taste like it sat under heated lamps for too long. I ordered the Baja Shrimp Tacos as my entrée, and the fried sweet potatoes to share with everyone. The Baja Shrimp Tacos are very good, the spicy sauce that comes with it is what makes it all come together. The shrimp however are very small, smaller than crawfish size. The fried sweet potatoes on the other hand I did not like. They were fried for too long and lost a lot of their sweet potato flavor. I’ve heard from my co-worker that her favorite dish is the chicken quesadilla salad. I’ll have to give that one a try, as I’m sure I’ll be eating there again within the next few days I’m here.

One star for having alcohol and one for not having to leave the hotel to get there. Service at the bar was atrocious. bartender could not have been less pleasant as she was ending her shift. Had to ask twice for water and twice for a drink. Key lime pie was properly defrosted I guess. At some point someone smeared the sauce on the edge of the plate. If you are desperate for alcohol and don’t want to leave the Marriott this is your place. Otherwise suck it up and go someplace they want your business.
