Just was there — place is under staffed — real slow. The food and the fish(!!) dry and tasteless — it’s a shame because its right next to the Atlantic Beach bridge —

we went on a saturday night about 8pm and we got a table right away. nice atmosphere and lighting but no music… definitely needs music in background. it has nice little bar area if you need to wait. As for the food.appz.stuffed mushrooms tasted ok and our main dishes. salmon was ok. it had a lot of sauce on it… shrimp in cognac sauce was good, a little too sweet, but it tasted ok(by the way, i asked them to remove shells on shrimp and they did. so that was good!). pitcher of red sangria was wwway too sweet so they made it again and it was better(they said quite a few tables said the same thing. so they were very accommodating in making it again). the Portuguese dessert was delicious! waitstaff was very nice. Good for a date or definitely a group of people. overall it was ok. but i’m sorry to say the restaurant before that, a taberna II, in my opinion, had better Portuguese food. so i’ll probably continue to go to a taberna in island park for Portuguese.

My boyfriend and i went to O Pescador last night because A Taberna was busy and we didn’t want to wait any longer for a table. We knew there was an A Taberna II in Atlantic Beach so we went there instead. To our surprise it was no longer A Taberna II but was still a Portuguese restaurant, so we stayed. And good thing we did! The Food was amazing! The service was FANTASTIC! The restaurant is under new management and it was run impeccably!!! I got the special Bronzino and my boyfriend got the shrimp/scallops/lobster in the champagne sauce. As an appetizer we got the shrimp in garlic sauce – AMAZING!!! I would recommend this place to EVERYONE! :)

Fantastic new owners and menu at the location of the former A Taberna II restaurant in Atlantic Beach. I met them both immediately after Hurricane Sandy, and notwithstanding the difficult conditions, they were committed to opening soon and being a new mainstay of the community. The menu is almost entirely seafood-based, and even many of the meat or poultry plates come with a «side» of seafood(Chicken breast with shrimp, Pork with clams, and filet mignon with a lobster tail). That’s not to say that the meats are to be ignored, by any stretch of the imagination. I’ve now made it a point to order chouriço(flambéed Portugese sausage) as every appetizer, as it is just THAT good. Their sole is excellent(I’ve had it grilled, with almonds, and oreganata), but the true star on the menu(so far) has been the Paelha a Pescador. About the only downside of the plate is that it is absolutely massive and too delicious to want to stop. The yellow rice with peas is chock-full of clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops, calamari, and a whole lobster. I had to stop and check to be sure I didn’t get a plate for two, but… nope…all mine. You won’t regret it though, as all the food is exceptionally fresh, and cooked in a very clean Mediterranean fashion. That dovetails well with the Mediterranean feeling walking in, with the nice glass doors opening to the outside(with summer dining al fresco) and the tile floor inside. The bar area is small but well-situated and the staff are very welcoming. So far, I see they’re getting a lot of business now that the community is picking up after Hurricane Sandy, and I look forward to these guys being around for a long time. I know I’ll be a frequent visitor.
