Food is great. Atmosphere is wonderful. And the locals at the bar are very inviting. You walk in being an outsider, and walk out anticipating the next time you can visit.

Great little spot on the back side of AC. Food was decent but the atmosphere was spectacular.

Cool ass hidden gem. Went in the offseason as a few of us rented a house near by — and we were taken care of greatly by Jill the bartender. Food was awesome as were the drinks. Can’t wait to go back in the summer to enjoy the outside bar also.

Came here with a group of friends after visiting the aquarium since it was right around the corner. Vegetarian options are slim to none, so I ordered a cobb salad sans meat and they gave me a discount on it. It wasn’t bad at all, but I think my favorite part of the experience was the H.H. $ 5 bloody Marys. MmmMmm, heck yeah!(They also had $ 5 H.H. mimosas, for those of you who stay hatin’ on the bloods.) The building itself looks like it’s 100+ years old which is actually pretty cool if you ask me, and the second floor gives you a nice view. I forget our server’s name now, but she was very attentive. Overall, a good experience! I’d recommend it.

I am SUCH a fan of Back Bay Ale House. Love their down to earth atmosphere & all the history on the walls upstairs. SUMMER time here is by far the best especially on a nice sunny day with a light wind. You can sit outside and enjoy their mason jar drinks — very delicious! However when it’s colder is GREAT too! So happy to learn they are open in the winter. They have a fantastic LOCALSNIGHT on TUESDAY6p-close and it is 50% off the entire menu! Who doesn’t love that?! Great bites. LOVE their wings — AMAZING flavor. Their mussels were good their crab soup was wonderful. I will be back again and I have been telling people too to come! I love that area of AC too so cute!

They had excellent service, great food, and the location is perfect. Probably the best burger and mussels we ever had!

This is a great place to watch the sunset. They serve drinks in mason jars. The food is typical of what you would expect in bar food. I have been here a few times and my servers have always been super friendly. The prices are reasonable for what you get. The bathroom is located upstairs. It is definitely worth stopping here if you want to relax in the late afternoon. It does get crowded in the late afternoon.

2 stars for the food, kicked up to 3 because their outdoor, shaded patio on the second floor(overlooking the marina) is a great place to be. The«Crabby Mac & Cheese» is way too small to be $ 14, unless it was the best mac and cheese ever, which it was not; it was merely pretty good. The tomato/mozzarella/balsamic plate had excellent mozzarella(from Tony Baloney’s) but boring, barely-ripe tomatoes. The Back Bay Sunset Ale is very good, so maybe just grab a drink in the upstairs patio instead of getting a meal.

Great outdoor restaurant. Good food, nice view and atmosphere. Great service. Not fancy but a nice night out. The only negative are the rest rooms. Dirty and disgusting. Better off just going in the water. Otherwise a good choice

Fun little place to dock your boat and grab a quick bite! It’s a fun little outside bar place that serves amazing wings(please get the wings OMG!) We brought our dog which gave them a little issue on where to seat us. We were placed in the far back corner until the manager came over and apologized. She moved us to a nice shaded spot for the puppa and gave him water. Our waitress was nice and the food came out speedy quick! Give it a shot!

My friends and I went to the bay in attempt to get brunch at Gilchrist. Unfortunately the wait for Gilchrist was way too long and we were starving. Back Bay Ale House is right next to it and was just opening up, so the place was empty. We decided to just eat there before heading home to VA from AC. Yeah.we definitely should’ve just waited for Gilchrist because it took them about an hour to bring us our food. We were the 2nd table to be seated at Back Bay… yet about 4 tables that had come in after us all received their food before us. The table directly next to us got seated AFTER my friends and I placed our food orders… yet they received their meals way before us. Our server was nice whenever she was around, but we hardly saw her. It took about 10 minutes for her to even greet us and take our drink order. She came to check on us maybe once about 20 minutes after we ordered. She informed us that our food would be out shortly… yet it took about another 30 minutes from that point. The slow service wouldn’t be that bad if the food made up for it. My friends ordered the crab cakes, chicken tenders, and fried shrimp. None of them were impressed. I ordered a cobb salad, so I can’t comment much about the food because… you can’t really mess up a salad that badly. The ingredients were fresh and the portion size was good, so I’ll give them that. It seems like this is a place you’d go for drinks because their cocktails offered did sound appealing; however, I was already hungover so I couldn’t try them out. As for the food and service… don’t come here expecting much.

What a great place to stop and have some really good food and a nice cold beer especially if you’re out on the boat and it starts raining! I’ve been here before and the food has always been good weather was dinner or a quick lunch! Our server Jacalyn Was very quick to refill drinks even though she had a run up and down the steps since we sat on the second floor with wonderful views Great food and very reasonably priced We will put the Back Bay alehouse on our list of favorites and I’m sure will be here many times again

Went here for dinner with my boyfriend about a month ago. Service was fabulous and everyone from the hostess, to the bartender, to our server was extremely pleasant and accommodating. We went inside for a beer while waiting for our table, it was a Friday and our wait was about 20 mins but no big deal as we expected that. We sat outside and ordered our food, which came very quickly and was hot and fresh. My boyfriend had the seafood sampler and I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was fantastic! The batter was delicious and it tasted extremely fresh. My boyfriend had no complaints and ate his whole meal. With dinner I ordered one of the mason jars, the Bob Marley and it was great! I don’t drink liquor very often but this was definitely a drink I will be back for. As far as prices, it was definitely pricey in my opinion but the view was fabulous and we had no complaints so we definitely got what we paid for. I definitely want to go back there as soon as I can!

A nice view, and have to like any small business that is trying to make a go of it in AC. We had a good meal and drinks, nothing too crazy. Would probably prefer to eat at Gilchrist’s which is right next door, but it is a different environment(breakfast and bay eating vs. drinks and a little further away). Overall, would give it a try again, service was friendly. You can get an idea of the area if you go to and click on the Gardener’s Basin links.

Wanna stay away from the standard AC «this oyster costs $ 31 because a pig force-fed saffron and pepper farted on it» establishments? Drive all the way up north of the boardwalk to the Back Bay and put your name in with the hostess at Back Bay Ale House. They are known for their large alcoholic beverages served in mason jars; it’s like the Big Gulp of booze: The Basin Mason. Hint for the curious: I started with a beer, and finished with a rum and punch, and I was tipsy walking down those stairs despite a full meal and weighing around 300 lbs. But first, it was a Saturday night, and we had to wait for about 45 minutes for a table for 4. They don’t take reservations, so you’re kinda tossing it up in the air. The whole restaurant is packed into a house, the bar near the entrance is crazy, and the patio was packed as well. For us, just meandering around AC trying to avoid the boardwalk, it was perfect. Fried shrimp with Old Bay Seasoned fries, crab cake minis, a tuna steak, and plenty of booze and laughs. Good seafood, and plenty of good local beers on tap, including a house ale. Thanks Back Bay Ale House for a great night.

We had some time to kill after leaving our hotel in AC to drive back to PHL. I wanted to find an interesting local place for lunch. DONE! You might think your GPS is taking you the wrong way… but keep going. This is kind of in the middle of nowhere, behind a marina for the local fishing fleet. However, there are a couple restaurants and touristy shops tucked back here in the bay side. The Ale House is quaint with a lot of outdoor seating. In fact, I never stepped foot inside the place. We had a nice lunch outside and enjoyed the fine near-Autum weather. The menu is reasonably varied and the food was quite good. We also had a great sever. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This place is highly recommended if you have a car and want to get off the boardwalk in Atlantic City!
