We are getting rooms and buffets«comp’ed»(for free, paid by the casinos), but we don’t gamble much in the Trump Plaza. When they changed the regular restaurant into an «Italian Buffet», we were curious and wanted to try it out. This restaurant is new in the sense that it is now a buffet only. From the previous reviews I understand that it once must have been a full service restaurant, but now it is buffet only, and it is closed between Monday and Wednesday. My husband and I were there recently on a Sunday night, and we received a $ 2 discount for our Trump One players’ cards. So we paid $ 17.95 per person for the dinner buffet. Which is a lot, if you ask me.(PA casinos have better deals!) OK, so we enter around 7pm(Sunday), get seated right away. Now there is a row of tables right at the big window wall, where you can look over the Atlantic Ocean. That would have been nice, and had we been in the Fatherland, we would have chosen a table there(at least 4 or 5 tables were free). But alas, in the Land of the Free you do not have the freedom to choose your own tables in restaurants — the hostess takes the freedom to place you where she wants, and so we didn’t get to sit at the window wall looking over the ocean. Bummer! The waiter was very nice and quick, served Pellegrino(Italian sparkling water) and answered our questions about procedures.(Here you don’t pay at the entrance like you do in all other buffets, here you pay afterwards.) Now to the food: for a price of $ 17.95 per person(19.95 without Trump One player’s card) and an «all you can eat» concept of course it cannot be authentic. That was quite obvious, and we knew that before we walked in. We are visiting authentic Italian places in eastern US cities on a regular basis, and we know what it costs. I am a cook using authentic ingredients for recipes from la cucina italiana, so we are aware what they cost as well. You cannot serve real Italian dishes made from real Italian ingredients when every customer only pays $ 17.95 and eats all they can eat. With this in mind, it wasn’t bad. We have had much worse elsewhere. The spread was typical American-Italian(in other words: what Americans THINK is Italian…), like meatballs in tomato sauce or chicken parmigiano or cardboardlike pizza with cheaze. They had good antipasti, and I must point out that there were enough vegetarian options. But of course nothing to write home about(or here on this review). After 3 rounds we asked if they had dessert(because we had seen plates with cannoli on our rounds to the buffet board), and we thought we might have overlooked that other dessert buffet elsewhere in this restaurant. But our waiter told us he would bring it to our table. We were then served a selection of several cannoli(stale!) and biscotti(hard!). Those who have ever visited Vaccaro’s in Baltimore’s Little Italy will know how Cannoli are supposed to taste. Well, these served here must have been mail-ordered or so, because they were clearly not fresh. We bagged the biscotti and dipped them into our coffee the next morning, then they were OK to eat. All in all, compared to the other buffets in AC casinos, this is one of the cheaper options and NOTTHEWORST!!! You will pay almost twice the price at Caesar’s and you’ll have problems to find anything worth eating. So, if you don’t get your meals comp’ed and you have to pay for them and you like buffets, then you should definitely try this. Just don’t expect it to be authentic Italian, because that it is not.

This was my wife and I’s first experience at Roberto’s and we took advantage of the 4-course dinner special for $ 35 a person and a $ 15 bottle of wine. The atmosphere was nice, but not very romantic at all, but the food was pretty good, but the bread should be warm — not served cold(gross). And, the broccoli rabe unfortunately was no where as good as grandma’s but she is hard to beat Overall, the service was good and the food was okay along with a nice portion size. Would we visit Roberto’s again — probably not as there really was no wow-factor for me.

I’ll only come back if it’s comped. I do not understand how you can charge $ 30-$ 50 per entrée and give poor service. 20 minute wait before our server took our food order. No recommendations, everything is «good» to the waiters. Dined with my family of 8. Wait 15 minutes for a caprese salad, really? A long time(I wasn’t timing) before my appetizer came. I had the veal cheeks, which was good. This is when we found out that no one else had ordered appetizers and the waiter didn’t even mention it so that their meals could come out first. Another long wait and everyone’s main course arrives, everyone has been chewing on bread for 30 minutes at least. Oh my Bistecca Sorrentina, how I wanted to love this dish. But I can’t. Because my «medium rare» Prime NY Strip was cooked to «Well Done.» I’m not even sure why temperature was even an option, because the dish is layered like a lasagna(not how I thought it would be like from the description. My cousin ordered the Lobster and Salmon Ravioli. It was a good dish, but stay away if you’re hungry. It comes with a whole TWO pieces of rav. Really waiter? You didn’t stop to think that a person who didn’t order an appetizer wouldn’t be full from TWO pieces of ravioli? Oh wait, I forgot, there’s 2 baskets of bread. Dessert was mediocre. On top of that, the one that comes in a fancy cup, took a LONGLONGLONG time to come out. In conclusion, I was pretty annoyed. If you like bread and waiting forever for your food, give it a shot.
