Yet another restaurant to be crossed off the list!!! This used to be very good food if you avoided the enchiladas(which they use american processed cheese on for some reason– yuk!). Is the steep decline in food quality because the original owner’s sold the business to someone who can’t cook or is it that they are using leftovers and other cheap stuff in their cooking now and blaming it on the recession. The salsa at this place used to be extraordinary and fresh — now it’s got those white spots in it that tell you it’s been there for a while — and not much flavor. The chips were greasy and old. In my misfortune, I ordered the beef fajita macho nachos with jack cheese. The meat tasted like leftover roast beef topped with globs of lard and none of it really had any flavor at all, except for the best part of the whole meal — the jalapenos. I feel like I’ve been robbed. This place now sucks almost as much as la morada(or la muerta as I call it) –yuk!

As I drove toward home today after work listening to In-a-gadda-da-vida by Iron Butterfly I got a hankering for Mexican food. Why you ask, I don’t know, I usually associated In-a-gadda-da-vida with a mass murderer after watching the movie Manhunter. In-a-gadda-da-vida honey, don’tcha know that I love you? In-a-gadda-da-vida baby, don’tcha know that I’ll always be true? Oh won’tcha come with me, and take my hand? Oh won’tcha come with me, and walk this land? So I thought and when I think I could be dangerous I would just slip into Antonio’s Tex Mex on IH35 feeder road in Round Rock. Thus the dirty Bat Mobil drifted into the lot at 4pm. As I entered I was seated right away because I was the only customer at that time. Hold on cowboy girls a family of four just arrived with two you children around 4 or 5 years old. Today was not a good day I guess for the kids because they were disruptive and loud and nagging and crying, now I am ready to leave. I endured and ordered beef fajitas, hold the guacamole and the sour cream please. As I waited I browsed the restaurant like a teenager browsing porn on the internet. The colors were blue, orange, brown, deep red and they had large replicas of many kinds of vegetables on the wall like green peppers, tomatoes, broccoli and many more. It was kind of neat actually. My fajita order arrives which included refried beans and rice. I quit chomping down on the chips and dip and began devouring the beef fajitas. Today they were good as were the refried beans and rice. To sum up the service was great, the food good, the décor fine, the family next to me bad. I guess that means I could say: the Great, the Good, the Fine, the Bad, OHMY! Would I go back? Yes, since I have eaten here once or twice a year over the last 10 years or so I will drift in again at some point in time.

After last night’s utter disappointment at overworking to the point of missing my date with the Salt Lick, I decided to stay close to the hotel tonight and get some Tex-Mex. The place was nothing special. The service from the new gal was a bit odd and flighty, but we never wanted for anything as she was attentive and figured out how to answer all the questions. The salsa was awesome. It had a bit of heat and a nice mix of tomato, jalapeño, onion and cilantro. The chips were thin, crispy and plentiful. My chicken enchilada verdes were average. As were the beans and rice. But the margarita’s, that’s a different story. I had a couple on the rocks. My friend had a «few» frozen. After his proclamation that they were very good and quite strong, I closed with a frozen. Wow. I don’t like frozen drinks, but this was pretty damn good. Plenty of kick. This place seems to be pretty average food at a reasonable price. If in the area and it’s convenient, I’d suggest stopping in. I wouldn’t make a special trip. I think there are better options. I can’t believe I was talked out of Chuy’s again. Oh well.

Nothing to write home about, but the Chimichanga is solid, the chips & salsa isn’t too shabby and they give you HUGE glasses of water! That all works for me!

No redeeming qualities whatsoever. Sub-mediocre service, below average food, not particularly well priced. I can see why it was virtually empty on a Saturday evening. Yet still the under tasked serving staff were inattentive. If your car breaks down in the parking lot and you’re desperate for food, I would entertain the idea of walking to Applebees, which speaks volumes about this place. If Applebees is on fire, I would suggest that you ask the fire department if they have any snacks before eating at Antonios.

From KVUE news report — Worst health Department Scores in Austin Amazingly, I ate here at almost the same time as the first inspection. Now, just down I-35 a little way we arrive at Antonio’s Tex Mex which also got a 50 during an October inspection. Rodent droppings were found in the kitchen, store room and several other places in the establishment. Fruit flies had accumulated in the bar. And their dish machine was not providing a final sanitizing rinse. On two follow-up inspections Antonio’s Mexican Restaurant scored an 80 and a 77. I wonder if they still have the cardboard enchilada lunch special?

A few co-workers and I stopped in here for a happy hour. We happened to go on «Wine Wednesday.» Now these aren’t the fanciest wines, but they are only $ 4.00 a glass, and they fill it way up. I didn’t partake of the food except for the free chips and salsa(which were good), but I did get to eye my co-workers dishes. Everything looked mighty fine and tasty. I think the next time we go I’ll have to try that chili relleno. It looked and smelled really good. I also heard their margaritas were good and strong.

Consistent, kid-friendly, clean, and almost never a wait! Great margaritas, too! My husband and I can typically knock back a couple, but my first one nearly knocked me on my rear! Only order it with a floater if you are NOT the one driving! Waitstaff is always great to our kids which is one of the reasons we keep coming back. They even got an ibuprofen from their first aid kit when my 14 year old had a migraine.

Gain weight now!!! Ask me how!!! — so say the t-shirts at Antonio’s. Antonio’s is pretty basic Tex-Mex fare. I got enchiladas carbon with habanero sauce and white cheese. It was actually pretty good. The chips are OK. It’s not inspiring in any way, but the service was fast.

Um. it’s off I35, has a vacuous interior, and serves your regular fare of Tex-Mex.all in all, nothing really spectacular. The only standout are the house ritas, which are actually rather freaking tasty and just one will send your liver in a downward spiral of joy. I don’t even know what that means, I’m hungover. Damn ritas. Oh yea, don’t sit near the ladies’ restroom. They had some severe sewage issues and each lovely door opening/closing was a friendly reminder of somebody’s irritable bowel syndrome. Also, this place gets a lot of bikers. Don’t know why, but there are lots. That is my review. I won’t be going back unless you make me.

I came here on Neo Soul Night, Wednesday night, and I just might spend most of the review talking about that. This place has soul. Yes, it may look like just another Tex-Mex restaurant from the outside, but wait! Inside, the stage and sound system betray something else. The loud crowd of people hooting and hollering says something else. The fact that we paid to get into a show that didn’t start until an hour and a half after it was supposed to and our drinks came late and cost too much… even that didn’t deter us from the coolness of this event. Check out Neo Soul because its an original. Slam poetry from the good the bad and the… hmm. unique, but performed with a lot of love, in a cozy environment, at a restaurant famed for its super strong margaritas. Wednesday nights y’all.

This is a great bar with decent food, good drinks, and good prices. I used to go here almost everyday; I would skip school with my girlfriend on $.10 wing days and we would go pig out. They weren’t low quality wings, either. They were delicious. Then we would top it off with a margarita or two. Their specials are great, most of their food is pretty decent. On Wednesdays they have Neo Soul night, which is definitely worth attending. This place generally caters to an older crowd, and closes earlier than two.
