All I tried was one bite of the Cooper(grilled cheese sammitch with pears, sharp cheddar, and bacon) but it was so good I had to review it. 5 stars and as soon as I can get to the store to get the ingredients, I’m making it a staple at home :)

It’s easy to say that this food is good, what is even easier is to say that this food is GREAT!!! In an ever expanding world of Trailer food eateries, Russell sets himself apart with not only his kick ass trailer, but also being the most modest guy you will ever meet. His personality shines through in his food by creating a wonderful arrangement of subtle flavors that never overpower the dish but marry beautifully to create such unsuspecting combinations that will take your breathe away. I highly recommend this place if you ever find yourself on your vintage hog cruising through the new east Austin.

Russell, the owner of Café Racer, is the most modest genius you will ever meet. He has a gift of putting together foods and sauces that sound like they don’t belong, but instead result in a sublime deliciousness. Take the grilled cheese sandwich with bacon and Pear! Delicious! His breakfast sandwich titled«Road Kill» features a poached egg, Canadian bacon, and spinach with a habanero mango sauce! Also very delicious — only wish these treats were a little larger. Additionally, he does fresh baked deserts and goods that vary daily/weekly, such as cheese scones and mouth watering cookie sandwiches. Finish off your meal with a refreshing Thai coffee(with condensed milk), and you will think you just had lunch at a 5 star restaurant… only you are in a trailer park ;)

sadly, no longer there. Oh well. The transient nature of trailer cuisine, I guess.

Super-tasty sausage croissants and a big plus for Mexican cokes.

I had 40 friends come in from out of town so we could go riding through the hills of Austin. Some of the riders came up on Friday and Café Racer was on the agenda for lunch. Only one guy was working the entire food stand, and after he took our ten separate orders he was a Tasmanian devil working the grill. I would have been sweating bullets if I was suddenly mobbed by a bunch of hungry bikers. I ordered the Elgin sausage sandwich which was full of flavor. The only weak link in the whole thing was the croissant completely fell apart since the dill ranch sauce overwhelmed the bread. I’ll have to take Monico’s suggestion and try to eat it like a hot dog next time. For a ‘trailer’ eatery they had some fancy ingredients in their offerings. My friend Nate proclaimed the cheese sandwich he ordered was the best of it’s kind he had ever had. High praise indeed. At the end of our lunch, the lone employee came out and handed us coupons for our return visit, and he checked out our bikes parked next to the sweet café racer they had displayed out front. In summary, great food and friendly/cool staff. Edit: looks like they relocated to a better spot.

Love that the location is right across the street from my ‘hood, and that the guy there was super nice and willing to put his two cents in on my menu selections when asked. I had the Elgin Sausage Dog, and holy poo, were there a lot of onions on it! I think its a really cool concept sandwich, but pretty hard to eat — I ended up wrapping up the sausage in the croissant roll and eating it hot dog style. There was some dill ranch on it, and it was a really nice touch. My BF got the Blue Cheese Burger — and holy cow, THAT was tasty! I was jealous. I mean, the sausage dog was good and all, but YUM. The ingredients were all quality, and it was very reasonably priced.

the cooper is the best just wish that the 3 times I’ve gotten it, it wouldn’t have been burnt, it’s always edible just a little overdone. I like how quick they are but I’ll wait an extra five minutes for them to cook it at a lower temp so my bread isn’t black. The people that work there are great especially the owner.

I feel like I have to counter-balance a little here. Russ, the owner & only worker on the scene at 7:30 pm tonight was super-friendly & seems like a genuinely nice guy. I ordered the Cooper(grilled cheese, bacon & pear) & potato salad to go. It was ready pretty quick, and he brought it out to me nicely bagged up. I got home a few minutes later and opened it up. The sandwich was almost burned on one side, though still edible. There were large hunks of pear in the sandwich, but I quickly realized they are canned, not fresh pears. The combo of the flavors was tasty, but the texture of canned pears is a bit off-putting. The potato salad has a commercial taste to it; very creamy/saucy & twangy. Granted the menu didn’t make a promise of fresh pears, I just sort of expected them to be so. Not sure what to make on the potato salad. Would I go back? Probably, yes.

I have eaten at Café Racer several times and have always been impressed. I have tried the mesquite chicken sandwich, Elgin sausage and the pear grilled cheese. Each dish was as unique as the other and none disappointed. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great place to relax and have a great meal. Thanks again for the fantastic experience guys. :Thumbs up:

I stopped by today and was very impressed with this new trailer at the SW corner of Live Oak and S 1St. There is plenty of parking with a super friendly proprietor and the prices are very reasonable compared to some trailers that are overly proud of their product. I had the Grilled Cheese and Wow what an amazing Grilled Cheese indulgence! The bread was perfectly grilled with melted Sharp Cheddar snuggled inside with perfectly crisp bacon and sweet pear — what a perfect flavor texture combo! Yum!

2 Thumbs up! Nice, new clean trailer at the corner of Live Oak and 1st streets. They specialize in Elgin Sausage ! Had a great sausage sandwich on a croissant(3.99!) It was filling and much better than what I had expected. There is ample parking. My fiancé and I are excited this lil place is within walking distance from where we live, can take the dog, delicious food, and totally affordable. We will return very soon!

… so far so good. I had the grilled cheese with bacon and pear. Nice balance between all of them. Love the racer out front and the proprietor, Russ, seems friendly enough. My only complaint was the loud generator next to the ordering area, but hey. that’s just nitpicky. Great prices, though! I’ll be back for sure.
