My wife wanted fried shrimp one night and I keep driving by this play so thought we’d give it a try. Nothing fancy little whole in the wall. It was very clean and tidy. Service was good. I ordered combo fried rice(with shrimp and crawfish) and my wife got the butterfly shrimp plate. The fried rice was really good, very generous portion with tons of shrimp and crawfish. I will surely order this again! My wife enjoyed her fried shrimp a lot. Tatar sauce was homemade… legit! I can’t say the shrimp were the best I’ve had but they were good. Damn that tartar sauce was good! Don’t expect anything fancy but it’s worth a try, we will definitely return!

Good(not great) food, but an exceptional value. Got a full fried catfish dinner for six bucks, and was able to feed my family of four for under 30 bucks. The fish was fresh and good, and the portion was huge for the price… The menu is a bit limited. You basically have two choices: fried seafood, or fried rice with seafood. The homemade tartar sauce was awesome. The coleslaw side items and hush puppies were good as well. I was annoyed that the soda fountain was not working, since I am a diet cola addict. Over all not bad for a seafood shack next to what I think is a «rub-n-tug» massage parlor…

Very Tasty! I had the catfish lunch special: 6 strips of catfish, fries, 2 hush-puppies, and a slice of bread. The cornbread coating on the catfish was crispy and well seasoned. I enjoyed the hush-puppies, too. I raised an eyebrow to the slice of bread. It seemed out of place. I shrugged and decided to make the most of it. I spread a little catsup on the bread, threw on a couple of fries and a strip of fish. OMG — that’s the ticket! It was soooooooo good. I am looking forward to trying the shrimp next time.

Horrible. Honestly all i tried was the shrimp poboy, but it was the worst thing ever. Zero taste, the shrimp might as well have been cardboard. Absolutely bad. The small frozen shrimp that have no flavor on a roll does not constitute a poboy. Been wanting to try it out for a long time since its by my shop. Mystery solved… bad food.

So for lunch one day I decided to stop in and try it out. Its not what you expect at all. Its ran by a little chinese man who offers lunch specials. You can get either get Chinese or Seafood for 6.99. I went with the seafood– 6 shrimp, fries, 3hush puppies, 1 slice of white bread, large fountain drink and tarter sauce. It was yummy! I was so full I couldn’t finish my plate, I brought the rest home for my son to eat. It was a nice find in a small shopping center.

Okay, so it’s that time of the year again when us Catholics(and maybe others) give up eating meat on Friday’s and go for seafood. WELL last Friday I went to Captain TJ’s. Now I’ve been here plenty of times before a LONG time ago when they use to be on 7th street, and a few times in the past at their new location. It use to be my favorite spot for cheap, good seafood. But last Friday it was the WORST! The fish was NOT good! It was slimy and it grossed me out! Worst $ 10 I’ve spent on lunch in a long time. TJ’s is not for me anymore!

Overall — Not bad for the price… The service was a bit lacking, but I liked the catfish and coleslaw. Stay away from the crawfish fried rice, major disappointment.

I have eaten at this place a few times now. Everything I’ve tried so far has been exceptionally good. I’m really not a huge fan of catfish, but wow, they really do it right. I’m curious to try their crawfish fried rice. Definitely will be going back. Only two complaints really: 1. You get a slice of bread with the meal. Meh. At least toast and lightly butter it! 2. It confounds me that there are like 3 selections of fountain punches, big red, root beer, and pepsi, but no diet colas whatsoever? really? But seriously. the food is GREAT!

I really hope I went to this place on a day where employees called in sick. There was one person in the kitchen, and one person in the front who was taking orders, answering the phone, serving the food, and I think he may have run out to make a delivery. There were people waiting 30 minutes to place their order, and at one time, only one table had their food while everyone else was waiting. The food was good for the price, and the boudain was better than I had expected. I will probably go again, but I hope they have more help in the future.

Had lunch today at this tiny Cajun– and Korean-inspired fried fish ‘n’ chips dive. It has a somewhat confused menu and service was slow, but the food was worth the wait. We ordered the catfish lunch special, a white fish platter and two drinks for about $ 12. Diners can choose from four lunch special varieties for $ 5.49: six catfish strips, six shrimp, six oysters or popcorn shrimp. The special includes a generous serving of fries, three hush puppies, bread and a drink. Other items on the menu include crawfish fried rice, Bulgogi hamburger, poor boys, boudin sausage and gumbo. They were out of bulgogi, but curiously did not remove it from the dry erase board. I later heard someone else order, but still bulgogi remained. The catfish is tiny. But it’s cooked perfectly. The breading is light, crispy and cooked to order. Fish is tender and the muddy catfish taste was not overpowering. The white fish platter, which cost about $ 6, includes a small fillet of fish, coleslaw, hush puppies and four shrimp. The fries shown in the photo I uploaded came from the lunch special. The whitefish had a slightly overpowering fishy after taste, but was tender and perfectly breaded. Same for the shrimp. I hate ordering fried shrimp because it’s often over cooked. Not here. Tarter sauce is fresh and tangy. I liked the hush puppies, but Denise thought they were a tad bland. I loved the coleslaw, but my wife found it had too much mayonnaise. The slaw is exceptionally creamy, but not soggy. The cabbage was crisp, as if it had been shredded that morning. Hint of tart vinegar. The décor is humble with mismatched chairs, but model sail boats and corrugated roofing-turned wall panels add some character.

This is a decent lunch destination, but beware of the abundance of fried seafood on the menu. Just count how many times I use the word«fried» in this review. Not that it is a bad thing, but your arteries may care about what you dine on for lunch today. The lunch menu includes fried catfish, shrimp, popcorn shrimp and crawfish. We tried the lunch special with six catfish strips and fries and hushpuppies with a drink included for the low price of six bucks. It wasn’t bad. We also tried the small crawfish fried rice and a small gumbo which also wasn’t a bad deal. The place isn’t anything fancy, but if you are looking for some satisfying seafood dishes for lunch, then check it out.

Crawfish fried rice, need I say more? Here’s the more. This place is a small fast foody type of seafood restaurant serving food similar to Long John Silver, but better seasoned and a bit more variety. Everything here is pretty good(can’t go wrong with frying), and since the food is cheap you can order different items to try.

New Cajun-type restaurant on the corner of Howard and I-35 with really cheap prices and pretty good food. A bit too much fried stuff for me, but some of the dishes are great. For example, the boudin sausage for only $ 1.99. Other dish I liked was the soft-shelled crab. It was deep-fried, but tasty at only $ 3.50. The oyster Po-Boy was just«meh» and the gumbo was OK. The part I liked the best, which added one star to the rating, were the 2 Cambodian girls that run the place. They saw us struggling to eat with our 5-month old and offered to «babysit» so we could eat our food. The star the gained; however, was lost as a cricket came flying over our table and landed on the bench seat during dinner. Overall, I would still recommend this place for something different at reasonable prices.
