I’m surprised no one has left a nice review for this place yet! I love this place for their elegance and scenic view. Sushi is great also. I haven’t tried their steak yet but it’s a sushi and steak house. Tips: if you love a good view, as for a back patio seating section. Super therapeutic and romantic. Perfect for dates or to take friends from out of town.

Craving sushi, a friend and I decided to try Mizu. I have been wanting to go here for the last year and thought this would be a great opportunity since it would be the first time for my friend and I. The place is inviting – and the view absolutely impressive. After finding my friend and getting settled, the first thing out of his mouth was that our waiter was overwhelmed and that service so far was questionable – mind you my friend is a particular patron who likes service to be on their a-game so a table of 12 sitting next to us made that kind of a challenge. I will spare you the details of his experience and just stick with mine. When I sat down our server said he’d be right with us. after about 10 – 12 minutes I decided to get up and let the hostess know that it might be a good idea to back up our server with another one. I had yet to even get water. Little did I know the guy sitting at the table in front of us was also walking up to complain of their wait – they didn’t even have drinks yet either. The manager(I believe) was very apologetic and I was pretty lenient – I wasn’t trying to start anything just wanted to raise awareness for them that they needed to step in and help. Hey I used to wait tables and 9 times out of 10 it was a management issue on why we were overwhelmed with tables. So we weren’t faulting our server at all. Although the view was stunning – as it got darker the lighting was way too low leaving the room pretty dark. So dark it was a bit challenging to see the menu – much less our food! I don’t know about you, but I like to see my food… thank goodness for the flashlight app! What we ordered was pretty good, as was the wine so kudos to them – we were very pleased and do recommend: Wine: I don’t recall the vineyard or year – and the link to their wine/sake list is wrong so I can’t exactly share; but we had a Petit Syrah and a Cabernet. Food: – Caesar Salad: bonito caesar dressing /white anchovy / shaved parmesan /croutons($ 7) – Edemame(my friend ordered this and said it was very good) maldon sea salt($ 4) – Spicy, Spicy Baby Roll: spicy crab /shrimp tempura /avocado / salmon /crunchies /tobiko /very spicy /aji limon sauce($ 14) – So Dang Good Roll: blue crab /avocado /salmon /shiso / lemon /soy ginger($ 13) – Hama Tama Roll: spicy hamachi /avocado /tuna / cilantro /cucumber /dynamite sauce /citrus ponzu($ 13) Once the table of 12 left and the time got closer to closing – service got better. Let me be clear… our server was pleasant and accommodating just not as we had expected given an upscale restaurant such as Mizu… our expectations were set and not completely met. My recommendation would be to go and try it for yourself and make your judgement… maybe we had an off night… we will give it one more shot as I’d like to try their steaks. Nonetheless, Mizu is a great location for Lakeway and Bee Caves locals so it should do exceptionally well. Just don’t think it’ll top of mind for me and my camp. Overall assessment: Wasn’t ‘wow’d’ like I expected to be; food and wine were excellent; service could be better and hope it will be next time around.

Have to say, this is an excellent choice for taking your lil olé lady friends out for their birthday for several reasons: 1. Despite closing down for a bit and reopening(not sure why), they STILL have the best Monday evening happy hour in Lakeway. $ 5 glasses of wine, blahblahotherdrinkspecials(I tuned that out), reduced bar apps and HALFOFF their signature rolls, making most of them $ 6-$ 7! 2. They have a gorgeous patio and sprang for a lovely temperate evening for us. Sure you’re gazing out on houses instead of the lake, but you’re high enough to get oxygen deprivation and giddy. 3. The waitstaff is sweet and laid back enough to put up with LOLF’s antics. When she told our waitress that she liked being naughty, our waitress promptly quoted, «Well-behaved women rarely make history.» Yup, she was tipped well. 4. FREE shishito peppers app when you check in with Unilocal! Those were gorgeous(see pic) and tasty and apparently so enticingly aromatic that our neighbors on the patio asked what they were. They didn’t have a Unilocal app(LOSERS) but we let them try the peppers anyway as I went on to proselytize Unilocal(I’ll take that Unilocal toaster now, thanks). 5. Cheap bar apps like the gyoza which was $ 3! And they were so light and crispy, having almost like an eggroll crunch to it. 6. The signature rolls are fantastic, esp at half off! We got a Hama Tama with spicy hamachi, dynamite sauce and tangy cilantro and the best was the So Dang Good roll which definitely lived up to it’s name. It had sweet blue crab and salmon and was topped with the thinnest sliver of lemon to add a citrus kick that was moaningly good. 7. They gave LOLF free dessert for her birthday, even tho she swore she was 77 and she’s not. I argued with her right in front of the waitress, pulling out my «Occasions» app on my iphone and saying«I filled out enough medical forms for you I KNOW you were born in 1938. That makes you 74!» So yeah, I basically gave her 3 years back on her life, best birthday gift ever. She was like a little girl, only more so after that. Oh, and the cheesecake was huge and creamy and good. She was able to take a chunk home for breakfast. 8. Did I fail to mention $ 3 sake bombs? Somehow, taking into consideration LOLF’s personality, that seemed the perfect apéritif after a fabulous meal. She downed hers about 1 sec faster than me. I gotta step up my game! Yes, a great place to take your 77 or 74 yr old lady friends. Well, it’s a great place to take mine. Your results may vary depending on how naughty they are.

I’ll just list everything we ordered and what I thought about it. The place was beautiful, and the view from inside and outside was amazing. We arrived at 7:00 and were there for 3 hours. Probs the longest dinner I’ve ever had! Things started picking up around 7:30 or 8 and that’s when the service got slightly sloppy. We were in no rush, but it was apparent the wait staff was a little overwhelmed. The orders came out a little out of order due to a mistake, but they took care of everything wonderfully. Dishes that really stood out: seasonal garden salad, beef tataki, big eye tuna tar tar, banana nutella cake. SALADS seasonal garden salad– very fresh, wonderful light dressing, and the apples and walnuts added a great texture. rocket salad– my dad ate it all and I’m sure it was yummy chop salad– much stronger flavor than the seasonal, but very good. The presentation was nice and the bacon was very good. SPECIALTYSASHIMI beef tataki– so so soooo good. The flavor was amaaazing! And I loved that there were 8 pieces! hamachi crudo– not my favorite, the fish was very good with a spicy and gingery flavor. bacon and scallop– the scallop with bacon was alright. The pork belly was juicy and tender, but I couldn’t taste the scallop. big eye tuna tartar– the best sashimi dish we had! This dish had so many complimenting flavors and textures. BAM! SPECIALTYROLLS choroshi roll– the flavor of the shrimp is nice with the avocado, yummy, creamy, and crunchy kickass roll– all I remember was this roll was darn spicy pineapple express roll– hint of pineapple, fresh and creamy hama tama roll– yummy ENTREE diver scallops– my mom loved the scallops, and the sweet pea sauce was a nice compliment. I had some of her potatoes and they were to die for! garlicy, creamy, buttery, and amazing. The spinach was nothing special. red fish– the tomato sauce the fish was covered in was different, but very yummy. I also enjoyed the rice and the shrimp. All very fresh. tuna au poivre– dad liked his tuna! DESSERT vanilla bean cheesecake– regular cheesecake, pretty good chocolate chocolate cake– so rich and yummy nutella banana cake– the cake was incredible, and it was accompanied by coconut ice cream. So creamy and AMAZING! It was kinda like banana nut bread with a yummy cream cheese frosting and ice cream. pots de crème– like crème brûlée, but not as good The dinner was incredible, and I’d certainly come back for something like happy hour just to try a few things at a time. The specialty sashimi was probably my favorite.

Wow, this place is stunning. When we arrived we sat in the bar as we waited for the rest of our party to join us and had a drink. The cocktails were well crafted and refreshing. The harpist playing lent to the ambiance, and I loved the light fixtures. Once we had all arrived, we were led into the breathtaking dining room. The views were amazing, with floor to ceiling windows that afforded a panoramic view of the hills. After the sun had set, a storm was brewing in the distance and we had a spectacular lightening show. But Mizu isn’t a one-trick pony– rest assured there is substance to go along with this style. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable, and made some great suggestions. We started with the spicy edamame which was a nice twist on a basic starter. From there, I had escolar and a hama tama roll. Both were great. Next, I had the rocket salad and the tuna. I loved the red quinoa that came with the tuna. I tried a bite of the salmon, and even though the tuna was great, I might have to go with that next time. Or the steak, because that also looked perfect. My hands down favorite part of the meal was the dessert. Our table ordered the cheesecake, the banana nutella cake, the spiced caramel pots de crème, the bread pudding and a coconut lime verbena ice cream. The pot de crème was the winner, although the ice cream was a close second. I’m usually not a big cheesecake fan, but I must admit I couldn’t keep my fork away from it. I love a good bread pudding, and this one did not disappoint. Mizu is in Lakeway, which can be a bit of a trek. But with amazing food, drinks, desserts and views it is completely worth it. They have a garden, and use fresh ingredients from it when possible. If you take a date here, there is no way they won’t be impressed. If you don’t have a date, treat yourself, you are worth it and so is Mizu.

My friends and I went there last night and it was amazing. We sampled the sashimi, sushi rolls, steaks, salads and desserts. Oh and who could forget the drinks. The key for me was how memorable everything was. I had the hamachi crudo and I would compare it to something as good as Uchi or Nobu. Seriously. The So Dang Good roll was light, fresh and unique in flavor combinations. The A.K.A Strip Steak was cooked perfectly and paired well with garlic mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. I had the rocket salad, rocket is one of my favorite greens, and the dressing was tangy, perfectly coated and also very refreshing. By the time desserts rolled around, I was sort of in a food coma, but we tried EVERYTHING. The Pots De Crème, Nutella Banana Cake, Cheesecake, Bread Pudding and Verbena Ice Cream. Wow, my favorite was the Pots De Crème, followed by that amazing ice cream they make in house using the garden in which they grow all that they can. The food was absolutely surprising and amazing. The presentation was flawless and the flavor combinations were spot on. The restaurant was a little drive out in Lakeway, but the view is incredible and everything is designed flawlessly-from the menu to the light fixtures. The drinks seem to be designed as well. Try the white lotus, lychee martini, or any of their drink specials. They use rain chains, one of my favorite things, lead the rain water down to a reservoir that waters the garden, in which they grow many herbs, vegetables and even sugar cane. The only negatives were that they were slammed, due to huge deal coupon sale, so the food timing was a bit off and took a while. That being said, the waitress set that expectation with us immediately and offered us the spicy edamame while we waited, so I didn’t mind. Managing expectations is key. Also, the restaurant is a bit loud. Some of the walls are stone and it has a large vaulted ceiling, so don’t expect it to be the perfect romantic spot. We didn’t mind at all, since we were there a big group to have a blast… but others might. BUT, the bar is amazing, and they have a huge outdoor patio that could help those that want a more intimate experience. Anyway, take your lady or your friends out there for an experience. I think that is key when you’re dining. Try it all, thus far I didn’t have anything that wasn’t a fan of!

Went to Mizu for a business-social dinner recently, and I wish I could give 3 ½ stars. The food was OK — not what I expected from such an upscale-looking place. Most everything else was 4 stars. The location is beautiful. Panoramic windows face the Texas hill country. The service was great, and friendly. Presentation of food is fancy. Clean, spacious, roomy. I don’t spend a lot of time in the Lakeway area, but would come back here for a future work-related meal.

We went for dinner at Mizu Austin and were pleasantly surprised. Sean Wall — the General Manager there does a great job. He recognized us from restaurants that he used to work in prior to Mizu and was very welcoming. He even sent us a complimentary bottle of champagne. Service was very attentive and the servers definitely knew what they were talking about. Food was good and some dishes were great. Great selection of different styles of sushi, wine and drinks. The ambiance is fantastic and I would go as far as saying it’s probably has the best chic evening ambiance in the Lakeway area. The views from the patio /restaurant are to die for. I know that they have a fantastic happy hour and the prices are a bit more palatable around then. If you’re in the Lakeway area, I would definitely go to Mizu. Plenty of parking in the parking lot as well!

A friend and I went here a week or so ago, and have forgotten to write the review til now. I had such a good experience at the sushi bar. My sushi chef’s name was Will. I think? He did a great job with everything he served us. He took the time to find out what we liked, and then made suggestions. He seemed to love what he was doing so that made it even better. The only reason I didn’t give it 4 stars was because I thought it was a little pricey. I think I’ll go back during happy hour! Hopefully the other chefs are as good as this one.

We’ve eaten here ½ a dozen times. The décor is nice, but I hate eating in the dining room because it’s so noisy. So we have taken to eating in the bar, if we can get a seat. The best thing to eat is the burger that’s on the bar menu and not the main menu. Killer. The sushi and the rolls are way overpriced and are small, and it’s not the best Japanese I’ve ever had — much prefer Uchi. We’ve always had decent service, tho.

Where to start? The stunning décor? The delicious rolls? The selection of menu items? The amazing waiter? The view? The ambiance? A place that has great food, affordable, and a parking lot? I am not sure which one I was more impressed by. Upon walking in, I fell in love with the modern décor, and view over Austin. We were seated by the hostess, who gave us an option of three different tables. Then we met Paul, he was one of the best servers I have had in Austin.(please ask for him) We told Paul we were going to take our time, and we wanted his opinion on dishes. Paul asked a few questions regarding wine, and flavor likes/dislikes and we were off to an amazing dinner. Paul was spot on with the bottle of wine he choose, then made sure we didn’t miss out on the veggie tempura. For a taste from the grill, he suggested the buta, pork belly skewers, once again Paul was right. Next, we ordered The King, Spider Roll, and Samurai all fantastic suggestions. If I had any complaints on the flavors of the food it would be the surprise bonito flakes on the Samurai roll, I loved the roll, but had to pick off the flakes.(flakes not mentioned by server or menu) By now we are stuffed, but would do anything Paul said because he really knows his menu, and understood our likes. So naturally we order the homemade marshmallows, because why… PAULSAID. A bowl of fire was delivered to our table with 5 homemade marshmallows, 7 spiced chocolate, and graham cracker. Heaven? YES. This experience was amazing. I will return.

I do not love this place as a student, as a girl on a budget and even as a spoiled wife at times. Why you ask? 1. I disliked the drunk guy no one way handling or kicking out 2. I sat at the bar with my husband and the drunk guy did not let us talk 3. The bartenders indulged in his madness rather than fixing it, clearly we are uncomfortable. Now the part where I explain my madness of 3 stars. hmm 1. Happy Hour is decent and a great way to experience this place without breaking the bank. 2.The view is good, not the best but good. 3. Outside seating is limited for happy hour so arrive promptly. 4. Food is yummy! 5. Valet :) Minus the drunk guy, it is worth the try.

Head to Central Market and pick up one of those basic nigiri trays for around $ 10. Then grab a salad from the salad bar. You should be able to get a nice one, chock full of stuff, for around $ 10. Finally, go get $ 10 worth of cheese – a small assortment to try before you eat your salad and sushi. Once you and your date are finished eating, you now have $ 70 to spend at Taco Bell on the drive home(since you’ll still be hungry). Spend all $ 70 and you’ll STILL have more money left over than you would had you dined at Mizu. But at least you got $ 70 worth of Taco Bell out of the deal this time. You’re welcome.

You know… I am very stingy with my ratings… but after 20 times to this place I just have to give it a 5. I LOVE going here. It’s pricey, but hey, isn’t all fab sushi places??? It’s around the corner from me but my sister makes the trek from here downtown highrise to meet us here a couple of times a month… and that is sayin a lot considering she puts 5 miles an average on her car a week!!! The atmosphere and décor is awesome… super romantic, chic, modern vibe. The view??? forget about it! Gorgeous!!! The food here is awesome!!! We sit at the bar so my husband can shoot the sh– with the chef. I love watching them make the sushi as well. Everything is so amazingly fresh and very original. My FAVE, and i have to get every time, is the WHATTHEFOIE??? foie gras, escolar, fried shallots, ver jus blanc, sanbaizu. Yes expensive… but hellooooo!!! melt in yo mouth orgasmic yummmmm!!! After dinner we head over to the trendy, dark bar and order blood orange margaritas… DANGER!!! Don’t drink too many of these or you might end up on the lap of the guy at the next table… oh wait… was that me… oh…oops. Anyway…this place is perfect for any romantic date, date night, lunch with friends, meeting people for happy hour, really anything its an A plus in my book!!!

«Mizu» means«water.» I assume that this restaurant is named so because the view is over the lake? I can’t say for sure since we came when it was dark out, and we didn’t even realize there was an overlooking balcony. Instead, we were seated inside… The food is good, with a few little setbacks. Let an Asian tell it like it is: — the miso soup was good, but a little too salty. Also, what is up with Japanese restaurants in America not giving enough tofu in their miso soups? One cube is not sufficient, y’all! — the nigiri — especially the maguro — is amazing. Impeccably cut, and tastes wonderful. However, the fish-to-rice ratio is not the best. Usually I say places need more fish and less rice — here, there needs to be more rice for the right balance. — Most sushi places will give you 2 nigiri pieces per order; Mizu only gives you one per order. Yes, the nigiri is good, but way overpriced. Had I not been treated to this meal, I wouldn’t have ordered any nigiri. Those are my only nitpicky complaints about the food. For the most part, the presentation was beautiful and the flavor was excellent. Service was attentive and the atmosphere is very… swank? I should call it? But oh, the noise. The restaurant was only 1⁄3 full and the noise was pretty bad. Voices reverberated all over the place so it was so hard to carry a conversation. This is something I detest, so I had to remove a star just for that. Still, for the most part the experience was enjoyable.

So this may seem a little strange for me to say of a Sushi place, but the real stars on the menu? Hands down the kobe burger topped with prosciutto and fontina and their amazing truffled mac n’ cheese. I know, I know, kobe burgers and truffled mac n’ cheese are sooooo 2004, but Mizu does it with panache and this is hands down one of the very best burgers in the ATX. While the sushi is decent, it’s not the best I’ve had and the size is rather skimpy for the price. The tempura battered rock shrimp appetizer, the McLovin’ roll and the Kobe Strip all follow the leader however and are guaranteed to satisfy. Mizu has a very cool and spacious covered terrace with a sweeping hillcountry view that carries into the sexy and swanky formal dining area. It’s the best of both worlds, really. On one side is the sleek, yet casual bar area serving up great appetizer specials and drinks(blood orange margarita– I’ll take three please!). They even have some pool tables and TV’s if you just can’t sit still and enjoy the view and people watching. The formal dining room is spacious, but not too loud even whenat capacity and the views are always a crowd pleaser when I bring out of town guests. But at the end of the day, a blood orange margarita, kobe burger and mac n’ cheese on the terrace will send you home with a smile on your face and thus tops my list for some of the best things to eat in Austin.

Incredible View, Check. Great Nice bar /facility, check. terriffic food, CHECK. Good Service = CHECK… This place has it all, but be prepared to pay a bit more than normal — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — OK, so who ever drank all the Mizu margartias — you ought to be ashamed. After all the Unilocaling about the Blood-orange margarita’s — let it be known they have been PULLED from the menu :-( Went with a group last Friday night, and plenty of seating(due to Lake Travis HS football game) near big plate glass window — yes, view is outstanding. Restaurant was LOUD, server was hard to hear — mainly because he was whispering — odd. We asked him to speak –up and he said we should Listen — REALLY??? Good thing he realized he f-upped one of his best tables of the night, as he ‘got right’ for the balance of the evening. Food was outstanding, but the rolls, while innovative, were noticibly smaller than all other suchi restaurants. Recommend McLovin’ Sr., Chorishi Fire, and Tropic Thunder rolls. Since it was a birthday dinner for two of us(and we had a few cocktails), we were not in position to complain about anything — but can only afford this place on Monday’s or special occasions.

HH rocks here! I have to say I’ve been to the old location, loved it! I went to this location when it first opened, hated it. Gave it another shot, I’m back in love. I’ve noticed a lot of the lesser star reviews are from when they might have just opened so I suggest give it another shot! and if you’re still not sure give a shot during HH. I’m glad I did. I suggest: Truffled Mac n Cheese What the Foie? Mc Lovin Sr Kobe Burger Two Time Aji Mizu roll Caesar Salad Tuna Poke The restaurant is really beautiful, large dining areas with great views of the hills. Plenty of parking and complimentary valet(I always find this funny) I heart Mizu and I hope to heart you long-time

We only had the sushi, and it was divine. We had the appetizer roll, which was wrapped in apple instead of seaweed. Refreshing and delicious. Our dinner was delicious, but the rolls were tiny for the price. Great food, but maybe a bit overpriced. The atmosphere was great, beautiful view.
