Nutty Brown Café needs to do two things to revitalize its business: 1. Redo the entire menu. There isn’t a single redeeming item on the menu. The food is just plain terrible. 2. Reduce the percentage of live bands that play Country & Western from 100% to 0−5%.

Nutty Brown is a tradition-go to say you have been there. We shared the combo fajitas. Large portion could have just split plate for one. Nothing special. Average service. Try your tastebuds out at better Austin locations and go to Nutty Brown for live music.

Excellent venue to catch Bob Schneider last night. Great service, friendly staff and solid food. Incredibly kid friendly. Only minus is a result of paying $ 250 for a VIP table located behind a tree branch. Advice to management — if you’re going to charge $ 250 for the two or three tables behind the tree branch — perhaps someone pulls their head out of their rear end long enough to prune the tree. Just a thought.

I love Nutty Brown for a decent down-home meal, in fact, I’d go so far as to say I crave their southwest egg rolls. However, the Tyler Farr show ruined it for me… VIP table for concerts is a rip-off. $ 400 for a table to seat 4 people, and the views are better from the general admin. To add insult to injury, the kitchen is CLOSED on concert days, so don’t show up early – they’ll still make you pay for parking, but you cannot go inside and eat before the show.

Food was ok. The place is definitely old and smelled musky. Too dirty. May visit their new location in RR though for live music.

I took my family to this restaurant for many years close to ten years or more, due to the fact that they had great music and the kids were welcome. Over the past year I have had the worst experience at this place. This last fall, I went into the bar for a few minutes and there was one waitress working the area were we sat. I left my cell phone and drink plus the chips and dip i had just ordered on the table, you could clearly tell, I had not left. I was gone 4 minutes getting a glass of water and when I came back the waitress was wiping my table. My food, drink, and cell phone was gone, she denied even seeing them., and why would she also pick up my drink and food she just delivered. I was furious as she denied it. I drove 1 ½ hrs the next day back to speak to management 3 hr round trip and they proclaimed the waitress would never do such a thing. Then the next experience on my birthday in July, I drive out to see a band and meet friends. I cannot get the waitress to pay attention, for nearly 30 minutes, my friend said her name was Chloe and went and got her. So Chloe stands at the end of the table and tells me, that I am with the band and I need to go to the bar to order my drinks and food, and then tries to scurry off. i never been so insulted, I stopped her and said no, I am not. I want a mexican martini a glass of water and a menu and she said, again your with the band, which i insisted i was not, and by that time was getting quite upset. Then Chloe says to me what tequila do you want, I am thinking okay you get a choice of tequila because she did not say it was extra, so I told her cuervo gold, and a glass of water. 10 minutes later my mexican martini shows up, then it takes another 30 minutes to get her attention, Still no glass of water. I am being treated like I don’t tip or something, Chloe, Just want you to know, I always tip 20% but not to you, it was frustrating, I even told her I was celebrating. my birthday. Finally she shows up again I order queso and chips with and addition of guacamole which is on a $ 2.99 up charge to add. One of the guys from the band decided to buy me dinner also, and for himself. As the night started to come to an end, Chloe brings me a check for nearly $ 27. and explains to me that she messed up the checks and even though the check she is giving me is the same amount except for .13 cents. I was confused as she ran off. So, I went inside to the bar to get a breakdown and correct check the amount seemed like 7 or 8 dollars off, or too much. The bartender gives me a correct breakdown, where I found out I was charged for the tequila $ 3. for the upgrade. without being told it was extra, I was also charged for a full order $ 6.99 of guacamole, as though I had ordered only guacamole and chips and then queso and chips, for $ 6.99 another 4 dollar upcharge and not what I asked for. and why didn’t she tell me the tequila was extra when she offered it to me then the waitress comes over to the table and throws the correct ticket at me, and walks off, my friend said is it right and I bent over to show it to her and all of a sudden Chloe’s head had came between us from out of nowhere and angrily she said is there a problem. She scared the cap out of me. OMG! Then in a rage she grabs my chips and dips and food which we hardly touched and where going to take home and she slams them into a bin, Before we could say anything and she did not even ask if we wanted to take it, ad she didn’t care either. I felt like I was under attack. Not only did my bill get padded without my permission or knowledge of the upcharges, but I never got to eat my food and I was treated so cruelly on my Birthday, by this waitress Chloe. Not to mention we walked up to talk to the band and one of the band guys left his t g food on the table and our purses where there also, when we turned around and looked she had already ran off with the drummers food creating more confusion. Chloe the service industry is not your calling.

Good food, crooked as f**k people: Went to a Pat Green show that was cancelled for bad weather. Called the Nutty Brown after 5 pm, before leaving the house, and was told the show would go on rain or shine. Apparently Pat Green announced the cancellation of the show via Twitter at 5pm that stormy night last month(I don’t tweet.) The Nutty Brown never announced the cancellation. I had to go up to the stage and ask the crew(who I had noticed were doing load out, not load in) to confirm there would be no show among the tornado warnings. The Nutty Brown, for their part as hosts of the soirée, collected parking fees($ 5 a car) and sold as many concessions($ 7 a beer) as they could despite knowledge that the show would not go on. That’s dirty pool Nutty Brown. I’m disappointed in you. I imagine I’ll be reluctant to return.

Me and a friend had brunch out on the patio this morning, 05÷03÷15. We arrived at 10 a.m. and were promptly seated in a nice, quiet area. Our waitstaff was great and friendly. She tells us that the restaurant is closing and moving to Round Rock. So before you head this way, you might want to check and see if they are still open! We both had the buffet and it was great. Lots of choices, from fresh fruit to enchiladas to biscuits and gravy. I ate healthy … or at least as much as I could. Everything was fresh and well prepared. I recommend you try the brunch on Sunday.

I’m from Austin but haven’t lived here in years. I come back 2 – 3 times a year to visit family. I had always heard about The Nutty Brown Café but had never made it out there. This visit I did, for lunch with family. First, it’s a cool venue. I can just imagine being there on a night when the place is rocking, but the food leaves much to be desired. I had the chicken fried steak, which unfortunately was over done. The green beans side dish was very tasty, the garlic mashed potatoes ok. I had to use the ladies room and as other reviews point out, the restrooms aren’t great. They smelled like a portapotty. The waitress was great… so service carries the day here. Unfortunately, I won’t be heading back to Nutty Brown any time soon… maybe for the music, but not the food.

This place is worth the drive. Off the beaten path, way west on 290, you’ll find this gem, complete with 2 dusty dirt parking lots(wear your boots!). The restaurant is such a warm and welcoming family atmosphere. We have come for both brunch and dinner, and loved the food. Brunch is an unlimited buffet with traditional comfort food and some tex-mex breakfast items. Dinner was also traditional with items like fried fish dinners, burgers, and also some tex-mex items. The service is prompt and the employees are organically friendly. We have listened to live country music in the indoor side bar room, and felt like we were in a country movie. You will find real cowboys here, you are far away from 6th Street college kids, and we love Nutty Brown because of this! Out back is another lovely bar, plenty of tables to eat and kick back a few, and a large amphitheater. I have yet to see a bigger concert here, so I can’t vouch for how the sound and service is on these nights. With what we’ve seen, I cannot imagine it being bad. Definitely a must-visit!

It was a busy night so we weren’t surprised that the wait for a table was 45 minutes, but it took two hours for us to give up on receiving our dinner that never came. We ended up walking out without dinner and with a child literally crying because he was so hungry. We of course tipped the waitress as it wasn’t her fault. We tried so hard to spend money here, but it was an uphill battle. Won’t be back until it’s under new management/owner. Also, the ring of cedar posts around the sandbox fell apart and left nails exposed to the 20 children playing in the sandbox. Hopefully no one got tetanus.

Great food. Nice people. The big daddy burger was delicious and cooked perfectly. The only negative is the bathroom was pretty nasty. I would recommend this place for the food!

Just moved into the area a couple of weeks ago, and I regret not trying their food sooner. I ordered some take-out for dinner tonight and the food was excellent — we got the catfish and charbroiled chicken dinners and both were delish. Quick and friendly service, and looks like a fun place to eat in as I’ve heard from my new neighbors. Looking forward to sampling other items on their menu, which offers quite a variety of options. Also very much looking forward to the summer concert season, as I’ve heard great things about this.

So first off I only gave the location three stars because I wasn’t wowed or anything special. BUT the waitress(I believe her name was Rebecca. sorry it’s been a few days since I was there and I forgot already) was excellent. She was very busy, and yet was quite attentive to our table. The portions are HUGE. and when I mean huge, I mean could feed a family of Koreans for like three days. The food if very Country(I am saying that in a Reba voice lol). and everything is either fried, has bacon or both. They do have tex mex Mexican food, but nothing in me said«I want to try their Enchiladas». that’s like expecting a awesome cheeseburger at a Taqueria lol I had grilled chicken with baked potato, and salad. My husband had the tangy wing sauce chicken burger(has a different name). that thing was mammoth. We cut it in half just to have it fit on the bun. He said the sauce overpowered everything on the sandwhich and all you could taste was the sauce. We ended up throwing away the other half of the chicken as we just(more like my husband couldn’t) bring himself to be fatty twice in a row. The place I heard was really nice when they have live music playing during the summer outside. I would say if you like traditional arty clogging country food, and beer this is a good place to hang out. I would go back for maybe appetizers and some drinks. Or go back to Deep Eddy Vodka distillery and then hit this place up afterwards. It does have its appeal and you truly do feel Texan when in this place. Oh yeah FYI, the bathroom are outside and so if it’s cold outside just know your walking through the cold to sit on a cold toilet.

Food is great, the theater in the back looks awesome. I can’t wait to come here when they have something going on in the back. I had the shrimp tacos and they were delicious.

I don’t like the concert rule of you can’t go back to your car for a sweater but I suppose because letting in underage kids they have to. They blocked me on facebook because I gave them 1 star(as in I haven’t commented but I never can so watch your ratings there). I think they need a limit on how many people they let in. The VIP is a nice thought but paying less and showing up early gets better seats. I feel a VIP area needs to be closer than a general admission can. The plus is being an outdoor venue with real toilets! But there are better outdoor venues so unless this is your favorite band who isn’t playing near ATX… skip. There are so many better spots which have dance floors and places that aren’t half the time you can’t bring chairs. Yes they charge for parking which I feel people wouldn’t notice as much if it was an extra $ 2 on their ticket but why not pocket $ 5 cash which might not be documented? It is cash. As for parking don’t complain. It’s a country venue to me don’t wear heels that’s ridiculous. Oh I absolutely hate that children are allowed at concerts. It’s like they want more money even if it means letting people in who can’t get a sitter. Kids shouldn’t be allowed at a concert that goes on past 10 and they are under 10.

Great venue for live music. Went to see Old Crow Medicine Show and had an incredible evening. One of the best concerts I have enjoyed. Great vantage point from any area. Personal and up close shows. I have been to the NBC for grub and drinks in the past when a concert wasn’t being held. I enjoyed the food and my time those visits, but I do not recommend waiting to eat there for a concert, unless you have a table reserved for the show(You can order from the regular menu if so). Otherwise, you will get basic food, similar to a High school ballgame set up. Burger, chips, etc… I recommend stopping by this Austin treasure for a relaxing afternoon on the deck with friends or for a great concert.

Dear God. Drink here, see a band here. But don’t eat here. Food was sad. Service was abysmal. Mood was depressing. Forgot the beans and rice on my kid’s sad little one-piece enchilada. When I asked about it, it was as if I had violated the rules. Didn’t come in ten minutes, so asked again. Came after we were all through and then charged me $ 6 for four bites of rice and 4 bites of beans(which were to have been included in price). Paid bill, left a nice tip, won’t be back for lunch again. Shows are ok with cold beer and good drinks. I’ll stick to those.

To the point I’m a LIVE music fan and we only come here for the shows. My 4 stars are for the venue and the layout of the stage and viewing areas. I can’t tell you how many great shows we’ve seen here over the years but almost everywhere on the property is a great place to watch the shows. Food…er…ah…we eat there only because we’re there and that’s about all I can say about the food.

It was an odd night. I think there was a problem in the kitchen or something. We arrived at about 7:30 p.m. on a Sunday night. They close at 9 p.m. You’d think that would be plenty of time – but not so much. A little after 9 we were served. I had the chicken fried chicken covered with queso, guac and taco meat. It was worth the wait. And since it was so late they comped it. Problems happen. That’s a fact of life. It’s how folks deal with those problems that count. We bought shirts.
