We’ve dined at this location many times and each time it gets worse. The main dining area is stuffy, dark, and smells bad. Carpet, not a good choice. The patio has great lighting, but recently never open. Seem understaffed and several of the servers are aloof and look like they slept in their clothes after a rough night on the town. Suggest taking a shower and washing your uniforms. What used to be a regular hang out for us, is now off our list all together. Blaming on poor management.

Came here for Sunday brunch and got three $ 4 mimosas. They are pretty darn good, I highly recommend over the other brunch special drinks. They also had special prices on bloody marys, screwdrivers, greyhound, salt dog(or something like that), and tequila sunrise. I may be missing on. When you are seated you immediately get chips and salsa. I was there with a large group(12 of us) and they gave us 5 chip baskets which we devoured instantly. I don’t exactly remember the name of the dish I ordered, but it was nachos with shrimp, black beans, pico de gallo, cheese, and guac. SODELICIOUS and extremely filling! Would definitely recommend.

Someone once told me that you’re either a Trudy’s person or you’re not. And I guess I’m not. The drinks and the appetizers are good, but after several visits, I always find the entrees(and the ambiance of this particular location) pretty bland. Overall, my feeling is that this is a good place to meet friends for Happy Hour. But personally, I’d head down the road for dinner.

Reading through the reviews, I think there must be two Trudy’s at this location. The one that I had Saturday brunch at 3 weeks ago on the way back from Dripping Springs nailed everything that is the Trudy’s experience for me except for service. Honestly, it’d been too long since I’d had Trudy’s migas, so I probably wasn’t the most objective camper. GIVEMEYOURMIGASANDNOBODYGETSHURT. I liked the open, airy atmosphere, which is a welcomed change from the crazy-crowded Trudy’s locations I’ve been to in the past(and, yes, I go all the way back to the diner car in Oak Hill). I could honestly care less about the décor or the furnishings, since I’ve never eaten artwork or a booth before. And the time I went, the bathrooms were clean – without my having to hire an Aggie. I got my migas this time with fajitas – which is an overstuffed meal even for me. Everything was perfect, just as I’d ordered, and the food was hot. I can’t say enough great things about the way Trudy’s makes migas. Honestly, it’s gotten to the point that I don’t order migas elsewhere since I know they’re bound to disappoint. About the service, though. I was glad I had my cell phone with me to serve as a distraction and time-waster. It took too long to order and too long to deliver the food. I think I caught up with every social media site I’m on and signed up for about 12 more while waiting. I would have appreciated faster service, sure. Who wouldn’t? But I also appreciated that my food was hot and exactly as ordered, so there was no wasted time in correcting my order, either. All-in-all, I can’t wait for my next Trudy’s Four Star experience. Maybe I can make it on a Sunday when I hear there is a $ 12 buffet. Endless migas? You bet!!!

Went for Sunday breakfast, brunch… so… The food was ok. But I have to tell you the experience and service were terrible. We were seated and waited in a half empty restaurant with no service. Finally got up and asked hostess to get us service. Eventually server wanders over. Takes our drink order, which was coffee and water for adults, milk for kiddos. We were halfway through our meal before drinks arrive AND they didn’t bring the kids milk. All in all very unfavorable experience, clearly no management there to get things moving and done. A little pricey with this kind of service = I probably won’t go back.

Trudy’s has been around forever! And I think this is the nicest location. I’m only giving 4 stars because the patio was closed despite the lovely weather. Nice Sunday brunch, although we ordered off the menu. The 4 baseball teams of teenaged boys made the brunch a bit unwieldy.

This is the absolute worst so called«Mexican» food in Austin and a total disgrace! Management obviously doesn’t have a concern as long as they sell the most alcohol on the west side of Austin. ML

An absolute mess, no management means employees aimlessly milling around not taking care of customers or customers needs, hostesses said go in and seat yourself, we don’t «do that». There were people waiting for tables by standing behind the people already seated like vultures. The wait staff said yeah it’s chaotic but just deal with it and please stay out of our way.

We just enjoyed the Sunday buffet at Trudy’s The food, service and place was excellent. They had an incredible variety of food and deserts. I will most definitely make this a habit! And, oh by the way, it’s only 5min from our home off Nutty Brown Road on the road to the hill country… Bonus!

My two favorite things here: the ruby rum shaker(made with Deep Eddy ruby red vodka) and the crispy beef tacos! They are seriously… seriously out of this world. The refried borracho beans are also fantastic. I’ll be back a million times for these. We’ve had great service and we’d had mediocre but never terrible service. Everyone we’ve brought here has had a great time and enjoyed their food. We’ll be back many many times. Lastly, I would NOT recommend getting take-out here. We live nearby and thought take-out would be just as good. Sadly, no. Making the phone call from the get go was difficult. I got tossed around to person after person, put on hold multiple times, and disconnected. The fajitas, well, everything we ordered was cold. BARELY warm. The food took an additional 15 minutes while we waited there and we live 5 minutes away, so it shouldn’t have been. It did not taste good at all either. It was missing seasoning and a good char. The bar handles take-out orders and the poor employees are so busy and frazzled they really don’t have time to deal with these. Also, some of their prices online are outdated so when I got there our meals rung up for more than I expected. The manager didn’t believe me and she went back to check which felt a little like I was being accused of lying. On top of that, they charge a % of your total to do take-out. I can’t remember exactly the percentage but for 3 meals the extra charge was $ 7. Plus, they want you to tip. I’m all for tipping, but they really should advertise their charge for doing take-out. On their website and/or on the phone when you order. It’s not a pleasant surprise. Take-out = bad experience, dine-in = great food, hit and miss service.

I first started eating at the original Trudy’s when it was on Guadalupe about 29th street back in the late 1970s. I compare all Migas by Trudy’s. I have never found better Migas anywhere. This location is a lot more upscale than many of their other locations, but the food is the same high quality that they have made their reputation on over the years. I have never been disappointed at any other locations and wasn’t disappointed here either. Drinks are good, Breakfast and brunch are awesome, and their Migas are the best in Austin.

If you are going for dinner must try the cholula honey chicken and bluebonnet shaker. The chicken is fried to perfection and has a deliscious sauce. My drink of choice was the deep eddy bluebonnet shaker very refreshing and balanced. The Mexican food here is middle of the road but for something extra special try the tinga beef tacos, choLula chicken, or chicken fried steak! Happy eating my friends

This was my second time going in about two years. The first time I went, the fish tacos had no flavor and needed the sauce to help it. Seems like it’s a thing there. Today, we went in and a huge sewage smell slapped me in the face. I should have walked back out and known it was a sign of how the meal would go. The bathrooms are right behind the host as you walk in through the doors. They need a better entrance. We were asked by the host where we wanted to sit. We chose the back area where you seat yourself and there’s lots of windows showing you a view of their parking lot. Lovely. The other side had carpet and looked outdated. My experience with places that have carpet is not so great. There’s usually a smell that permeates throughout because the smell of dirt from shoes, mashed food and cooked food smells sits in carpet. We went to the back area that looks a little bit more inviting until you notice the music bars and notes painted onto the wall above the bar. Looks old. We went to a tall table but noticed rice on it and food under the table. We chose another table and waited maybe 5 minutes before a waiter came by. She showed up and we got water and waited for kids drinks and coffee. We were finally ready to order and my mom decided she wanted the Migas plate but without jalapeños and cheese. I got the Ciro plate. I asked the kid who delivered our plates if I could get corn tortillas instead and he said yes then left. I never saw him again. My dish was okay. Tasted fine but was warm and on its way to going cold. My mom got her plate which looked horrible. It looked like it was just scrambled eggs with red tortilla strips. She kept picking at it until she finally came out with it. She asked me to taste it. It was HORRIBLE. Tasted like the way a wet dog smells. It was terribly dry too with no seasoning. They basically scrambled eggs to death and threw tomatoes and tortilla strips onto it then served it. There was no way to tell if there was even hash browns in them as the menu stated. It just looked disgusting and boring. When I got the bill, I was charged an extra dollar for something like«make it your way migas». I asked about this and the waitress told me that because they make the sauce all together, they had to make a separate type just to exclude jalapeños and cheese. Really? Charged an extra dollar for no cheese and to throw tomatoes on it and make dry eggs. If anything, they should have deducted a dollar because there was no sauce on it at all and we saved them money by not using cheese. But no. You must pay an extra dollar for labor I suppose. I’ve never seen this and never have been charged for things like this. My mom was insulted basically. We were also bothered that this wasn’t explained to us when asked to have no jalapeños and cheese. All she said was okay and that was that. You need to warn your customers of extra charges even if it’s $.05. I check my bills to a T because I’ve gotten many that have items I never ordered. The rest of the time was used waiting for our check and discussing why anyone goes here for food. Our only conclusion is that they must have incredible drinks where people can’t taste the food any longer because they’re too happy to care. By the end of our dinner, I noticed that that table we went to first was still forgotten. Food still sat on the floor. Rice, bread, and a chicken strip was somehow ignored. Hey no food poisoning at least. +1 star for having stevia.

Poor service started the second we walked in the door. We had a party of 13, and was told to find a seat in the patio section. We walk ourselves there to find nowhere to sit. But they have 75% of their tables empty with reserved signs.(The entire time we were there no one sat at those tables) Our waiter was nothing to brag about, he Couldn’t keep up with our needs. Overall, this is nothing like the other Trudy’s locations we’ve been to. This place gives Trudy’s a bad name.

After driving by Trudy’s on Hwy-290 for many years we finally stopped in. We really didn’t know anything about Trudy’s or even what kind of food that they serve. So, as we found out, they are primarily Tex-Mex. Seemed a little odd since there was nothing in the architecture of the building or interior design to clue you in. No matter… It’s a nice looking building, the parking lot is scattered around the building apparently to save some of the trees; which is nice. The interior is spacious, with high ceilings, uncluttered decoration and lots of booths. We were there around lunch time and the menu had a nice selection of all of the Tex-Mex breakfast and lunch items that you would expect. I had the ½ portion of the migas. This was as big as the full portion that I have had at other restaurants. It was good. As a mater of fact is was really good and I will likely be back.

You feel like you’re walking into a convention center this place has such high ceilings. The food was well made and quickly prepared. Everyone should try their Mexicana martini! The taste is very generous and enticing to those who like to drink.

VFW Harley Parade brought us to Trudy’s for the first time! Impressive: lots of free parking(some of it shaded under trees). More impressive: Trudy’s was ready for 300+ people and we were seated in minutes. Super impressive: we had drinks and food on our table in less than 5 minutes. Good news: Drink specials before noon(we ordered in bulk at 11:45a). The best: Super delicious Migas & breakfast tacos. Flavor tastes homemade. Salsas are fantastic. Service was great. So, why not a 5 star review? Well, frankly my dear reader, although it appeared clean, our table was a tad bit sticky. Trudy’s is family owned– not a national chain. 4 locations in #Austin. We need to come back to try their«famous» margaritas!

The name may say four star, but unfortunately we’re realistically now calling it Trudy’s One Star. I’ll still visit for drinks on occasion; as for the food my family is done thanks to kitchen errors and service. How about a few examples of our issues on recent visits. We were given a brand new waiter for a party of seven at brunch. Twenty minutes to get coffee to the table, food was cold when it finally came out, and our separate checks weren’t correctly split. I gave up and overpaid because I was just done with the experience. My quesadilla a few days ago looked like it was baked in an oven; not one bit of charring on the tortilla. Watch your silverware when dining also, it took three attempts to get me a clean set on that same visit. Another visit, it took ten minutes after my kiddo’s pancake was served to get butter and syrup. Chip warmers??? You should turn them on when the first employee walks in the door! Cold chips on our last three visits. And, when I complained they brought us the same cold chips. Forget getting the correct potatoes when your order brunch, why ask your diners when your just gonna put the opposite on the plate anyway. Managers everywhere, I guess you need ten different stiffs with walkies on the floor to help the three waiters running an entire dining area. That, and to fix all the errors. Look, we need a good Tex-Mex place in North Hays County. Why can’t you get your sh*t together Trudy’s? Why is it every visit and I mean EVERY visit something goes wrong where I think if I drove 15 more minutes into Austin I would have been happy with the food at the price I paid for the dish. Trudy’s is too expensive for the food issues and bad service. Want some additional proof? I spent many an evening at the Brodie Oaks Trudy’s South Star. Drinking Mexican Martinis and eating fish tacos and nachos. One visit I even took a New York model that made thirty thousand a shoot who ate salsa with a spoon to protect here figure. Barely an issue in years of dining. Hays County One Star, its common place. You come to expect the dining disaster.
