Something changed before they closed. The service was poor and unorganized. The food was so-so.

Old School Grill came out with a new menu in the beginning of January and I was pleased to find they offer a «lighter side» menu. Lighter side does not mean less flavor, instead they serve half a sandwich as is with your choice of soup or salad. The first time I dined at OSG I tried the black and bleu po’ boy with the house salad. The sandwich was simple yet tasty with grilled chicken topped with melted blue cheese. What doesn’t taste good with cheese?! Speaking of cheese Jesse ordered the mac-n-cheese wedge. That thing is straight up ridiculous! It is baked with four cheeses and topped with a creamy garlic cheese sauce and absolutely delicious. Two people could easily make a meal of this monstrosity. My second stop I ordered a half of spicy chicken sandwich and the tortilla soup. The chicken was a tad overcooked but was overall decent. The wing sauce had a nice kick to it and the blue cheese offset the spice. I took the tortilla soup to go and had it the next day for lunch. I was full of chunky vegetable but overall bland. OSG is currently pouring 3 local taps: Austin Amber, Fireman’s #4 and 512 Pecan Porter. They have an impressive wine list(to include Trefethen ’07 Cabernet by the glass), a martini menu and decent happy hour for drinks. What really takes this place from a 3 star to a 4 is service. OSG is very chill. You will find hospitable down to earth service here and the atmosphere is comfortable. Oh and don’t forget to check out the big ass fan.

I’ve been for dinner and brunch multiple times. Service is consistently good and so is the good. Brunch is where it’s at! My husband really likes the Chicken Fried Steak, which you can get during brunch or dinner service. He also recommends the Loaded Breakfast Bowl. My jam is the Bananas Foster French Toast. It’s over the top sweet, in a good way, but they also serve it with fresh berries to give you tart as well. They don’t skimp on the berries, either. I don’t mean like, 2 strawberry halves as a garnish. You get a handful of blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries. I’m missing it just writing this… After I got brunch there the first time, I went back and demanded my dining companions order it as well, and they were not disappointed. It comes with a side of meat, and they don’t really have any veggie protein options, but they are cool with you ordering a side of something else. So we got savory grits– the first time I went, they were heavy on the green onions, so the next time we went, we requested them come light on green onions. But this time, they were loaded with jalapenos. That just seems like something you should mention, since someone people can handle them and some can’t. My mom wasn’t a fan and couldn’t really eat the cheese grits with all of the jalapenos– they were seriously delicious the first time I had them, so I was bummed, and felt guilty we wasted the grits. They have a pretty decent selections of beers, which is good, because they’re going to need it to compete with Woodrow’s in the same shopping center. The other thing my husband would like is that they have one beer that’s a little risky. Fireman’s Four is the most unusual thing they have, and every bar in Austin has that. There are a lot of great microbreweries to support in Austin. Get in on that. The last time we went a couple weekends ago, the owner was there and asked how it was. He was really nice. We told him how we were huge fans, and how the jalapenos were a bummer that day, but that everything else was delicious. He asked a bunch of questions and seemed genuinely interested in our feedback and opinions. I can’t remember that ever happening to me at any restaurant before. That was really nice. He asked about beer and my husband mentioned his thought, and he said he’d look into that too, because he had heard the same thing from other people. We’ll see– honestly, it’s just going to keep getting better, because they are really listening to their customers, and it’s already AWESOME. Go try now!!!

While I don’t think Old School Grill is a destination restaurant, they do some things quite well. The Texas Two Thep burger is great, with jalapenos, cheese and Sriracha. Whoever came up with this burger should be applauded. Clap, clap, clap. One item I’d order every time is their white cheddar New York style cheesecake. It is absolutely fantastic. The cheese filling has subtle sweetness and much more flavor than most cheesecakes I’ve had. The thick crumb crust puts it over the top. It’s perfect in every way. I don’t think their chicken fried NY strip is all that, eventhough the accompanying mashed potato is delicious and probably too rich. It’s definitely a huge portion and enough for two. Great friendly service.

Quick & friendly service from our server Jeff, but past reviews are right on target. Food is so so & bland & a bit over priced for the value. If the food was great then it would been a different story. My daughter is 7 and says her meal was good, but was upset her coloring page was a 100th generation copy and barely legible. We started with stuffed mushrooms. The girl child had the chicken fingers with fruit. Hubby had Philadelphia Cheesesteak. I had Mac & Cheese. They don’t have a drink menu yet so you have hear all the beer & wine choices from the waiter. Its too bad the place isn’t better since it’s so close to home and they really just need to step up the food a notch or two, but it looks like the 3rd restaurant in this location might be gone soon if they don’t make some changes!

Love finding a new treasure and it’s even better when it’s in your own backyard. I’m with Nathan, I remember the old Kahuna’s place as a good place to park when Starbucks was full because Kahuna’s never had any cars. This place went up without a lot of fanfare but the lot was always busy, so that’s a good sign in my book. Walked over here one night, ambled in and checked it out. Like the interior, clean and spare but not not spartan. Free wifi a bonus. Menu looked really appetizing, lots of choices. And I am going to hit that drink menu up one side and down the other at some point, old fashioned drinks with good boozes. I had a philly cheesesteak and almost couldn’t finish it, there was just a whole heck of a lot of meat. And don’t we all love more meat? Then when I was leaving I saw a sign for brunch and one of the owners(Jay) was telling me that the bananas foster french toast was basically divine. I told him he had me at bananas foster. I came back for brunch the next Sunday, wasn’t feeling the sweet though, got a breakfast bowl and licked it clean. Hashbrowns, eggs, cheese, onions, ham. Sounds like 5 of the major food groups to me. Not gonna lie, the service was decent the first time and sub par the second, but the manager Drew was very friendly, fixed what was wrong and was a good fellow to chat with too. The food is definitely worth it, check this place out sooner than later. I’ll be back too, if you see me there come say hello. Just wait until I come up for air from my meal.

Had the Philly, loved it!!! The man had the old school club, also good, and the ‘small salad’, great greens, but not small. Why the hellz did it close? Best place in my neighborhood.

I was reading Gary K’s review of this place, and thinking it might be an interesting place to try at some point, when I remembered I was there for the very same event Gary was, although I got there after he left and didn’t see him. I think my point is Unilocalers can be fun to run into but the venues may be forgettable. The thing is I don’t recall disliking this place, I just can’t remember anything about it that made me go, «Oh Sweet Jeebus, it’s right where I want to be!» It had a nice spacious interior, with that kind of nice semi-industrial high-tech look, and the nice attentive staff wore matching black shirts: For lack of better imagery, think Appleby’s or Cheddars spiked with a trendster prod, and there you go. Maybe that’s the trend in nice dining design these days. Everything I saw on the menu appeared to be gentrified Chili’s fare, with upscale twists and hip personalized names(«Texas Two Thep» Really?). I did a mundane House Salad, Bruschetta, and an iced tea, and my total with tax and tip was $ 15. Once again, I’m not complaining, I just didn’t think it was anything special. I briefly considered the $ 29 Cowboy Ribeye, but I know what I’m going to get when I order a ribeye at Ruth’s Chris or Sullivan’s, and I just didn’t feel like taking a gamble here, if that makes sense. The best thing for me about Old School Grill was finally meeting the fabulous Christine A. at her ROTDC here, one of the last names on my «I-want-to-meet-this-Yelper» list. And it was a pleasure to have met James F, and I probably should have asked about that whole rooster thing. Oh look, there’s Missy & Alicia, Daniel & Darla, and my last brief encounter with the formerly fabulous Keri B, before we had to de-friend and block each other over Barley Swine. C’est la vie. Finally, I’ve always liked the way Gary K ends his reviews with his patented«Would I come back here?» line and then announces his decision, yay or nay. So would I come back here to Old School Grill? Well, maybe, if Gary is buying that messy dessert thing he enjoyed, which I never got a chance to see or taste. Then again, maybe not. ***************** (Editor’s note: The comment about de-friending and blocking Keri B is meant to be humorous. Errol M. simply adores Keri B, and he writes stuff like that just to see how many more of his reviews will get flagged and pulled for mentioning other Unilocalers. That annoys some of them, and Errol M. gets bored very easily.)

Guess what it has taken me awhile to get to this review. I attended Christine’s ROTDC at The Old School Grill last Thursday. I was only able to stay for the first hour due to other commitments, it was great meeting Christine for the first time and seeing Catherine, Keri, Randy, Daniel and Missy again, it was also great seeing Darla again she always has great stores to tell. I really enjoyed the conversation among the great Unilocalers. The location was where Kahunas Tiki Bar and Grill once was, they removed all the Tiki Hawaiian items and the restaurant was more open but they kept the Big Ass fan! Now the food and service talk: The service was fantastic, our servers were great. I will talk about the desert first, I ordered the MELISSA’S MESSYSUNDAE, it was wonderful, I shared with others and I think we all liked it very much, Extra napkins are a must. It had the magic frozen chocolate plastered all over it and the glass container making it messy but it sure was good. Appetizers were ordered by the group which included brie, and burger sliders and others that the groups like a lot. I ordered the HALFPOUNDSTEAKBURGER cooked medium. I took one byte of the burger and stopped, it was cooked well done but that is not why I did not eat it. The meat had garlic in it. Now all the others there were praising the heavy use of garlic in all their food, that is great for most people, but I am an odd ball I don’t like garlic in my food, so I didn’t eat anything but the dessert. So I highly recommend this place if you are a garlic lover it will more than meet your needs. Will I go back? No return trip for me unless I go just for desert.

We were really excited about this place after all the glowing reviews. A nice, clean eatery nearby would be fantastic in this neck of the woods where there is really nothing to write about. I told myself that even if the price is a bit high, as long as service and food is good, then I’m willing to pay for it. The service was great. You can tell they’re trying really hard to make this place work. We had basically everyone stop by our table asking how everything was. It was a bit overwhelming though and somewhat embarrasing when a manager(I think) came by and asked how everything was — but before we even got our food. I laughed it off. It’s better to have«too much» service than not having any service. They have a full bar. I ended up ordering draft. Too bad I didn’t see they had Chimay until after I was done with my meal. Food wise… ok, it was just ok. We started with baked brie thinking it would be similar to that of South Congress Café(battered & baked with sauce on it). But this was just a brie cheese baked in an oven. Something I can easily make at home. And for $ 10, way over priced. I had the cajun jumbalaya pasta. It was ok. I wish they used straight noodles instead of tortellinis. Chicken pieces were a bit try, but the shrimps were good. Flavoring was missing something so I had to add salt(which I rarely do at any eateries). We also had the chicken fried sirloin. Like others have stated, it was over salted. The gravy was ok and mashed potato was ok too. The portabello mushroom burger was again, ok. Nothing outstanding. Didn’t get mac & cheese wedge, but looked interesting. I want to try that next time. When it was all said and done, our family of four spent over $ 100 for dinner. I don’t think it was a $ 100 meal — more like $ 60 – 70 range. I do want to go back b/c I like the service. But I might go more for beer and munchies, not so much for a full, family meal. Looks like a cool place to hang out and watch football.

I was really excited to learn that the«Mud Man» of Phoebe’s Mud was opening a restaurant in our neighborhood. What always impressed me about his coffee truck was his focus on service over everything. You want an extra shot? You got it, no extra charge. I was hoping that he would carry this ethos on to his restaurant and thankfully he did. We were greeted with smiles and quickly seated. Our server Bailey was not only attentive, but patient and sweet to my 2 year old daughter and even gave her a bracelet. To this day my daughter still picks up the bracelet and says, «Bailey gave this to me!» So cute. While we were there Jonathan was constantly milling about in the restaurant introducing himself and making sure everyone was happy. Exactly what I would expect. So how was the food? Well, it was really good! We started with the garlic shrimp appetizer and although it was a little work to get the shells off the shrimp, the payoff was well cooked, very flavorful shrimp. My wife ordered hot wings and they were amazing. The sauce was just right and they make their own ranch from scratch! My daughter had the mac and cheese and after tasting it, she’s lucky we didn’t eat it all. I had the cajun swordfish and it was flaky and delicious. We ended the night with crème brûlée and it was fantastic. My daughter did a little dance while she ate it. I highly recommend this restaurant and I am so glad to have them as neighbors. They are new and I would expect them to need to work out a few things these first few weeks, but we will be back and we will never skip dessert!

Update/Edit: According to the owner of the grill, they do not use MSG to flavor their food. However, as I’ve had allergy tests in the past that rule out most common foods and flavorings aside from MSG as the culprit of my reaction, I’m left skeptical — especially given the perceived condescension in the owners response. The chance remains that I’m allergic to some edge case food item I don’t rarely encounter, but the chances of doing so in a burger/egg/jalapeño/srarachi sauce combination are strange to say the least — and not something that simply«occurs» due to my «sensitivity» — especially since I eat any number of combination of these ingredients any given week. However, I’ve edited out the remarks specifically stating MSG was the culprit for the sake of fairness. Oh, Old School — I really wanted to love you. I really did. But as I learned a long time ago, simply wanting something doesn’t mean it will happen. For example, I’m not a millionaire, do not have robot legs, and cannot fight like Bruce Lee. It was date night, so having had a sample of Old School previously, we decided to give them another shot. We each ordered a Texas Two Thep — a reasonably priced burger with interesting additions that promised to make it great. Unfortunately, it wasn’t. After an odd encounter picking it up — best left to my lady to describe but gave the further impression that they are still lacking polish — the burgers just didn’t taste good. The bun was fine, and the burger itself was«just alright.»(despite not being cooked how I’d ordered it — why bother asking if you don’t bother trying to cook it the way I asked?) But after a few bites my taste buds came into contact with the salt lick that was the fried egg. There was so much salt on it, in fact, that it burnt my tongue in the tasting — and the worst part was, unless there is something that mimics MSG allergic attacks in their food — the tell tale sign appeared that the burger or the egg was flavored with MSG, as well. The fries, of which few were left unburned little snarls in the take away container, were fine, but nothing to write home about. Sadly, this leaves a nasty taste in my mouth — and a pounding migraine courtesy of whatever they flavored the food with(both times I’ve visited). After a few weeks you’d think they’d start trying to polish things up. In addition, the prices of the food, some of which you’d expect in fine dining — I’ve seen cheaper entrees at Wink — do not match the quality or the environment. Now Old School, despite it’s favorable proximity, is relegated to the«No Fly» zone for us.

We have been here three times now. Each time the food is wonderful and the service is spectacular. I think even if the food wasn’t good, I would still come here for the awesome wait staff but lucky for me their food is top notch! We’ve had the build your own burger a couple of different ways and it’s honestly the best burger I can remember having. Their meat is magically juicy without making you feel all icky and guilty afterwards. They double blanche their fries and they are de-li-cious! They serve the burger and fries wtih ketchup, mustard, and their homemade mayonaise. I think it’s shameful to call that mayonaise. It’s an olive oil spread of yumminess that the fries taste particularly good dunked in. We’ve also tried their buffalo wings, their spinach dip, and Melissa’s Messy sundae from the menu. All three were very good and we would order them again. On our last trip, my husband and I split the chicken fried NY Strip. It was really flavorful and delicous and not heavy at all. We both ate as much as we could and took ¼ of it home. We did order the spinach dip appetizer first so that may have a wee bit to do with why we couldn’t finish our food. TRYTHISPLACE!

Stopped in yesterday when I noticed a new restaurant. It was around 3pm. In this part of town many restaurants close in the 2pm-5pm hours, which unfortunately is my lunch hour. So I’m, happy to see a new option. They were pretty empty. The service was great. I had the French onion soup. It was very good. Enough cheese with the right amount of crispyness, broth and onions were tasty. I also went big and got the Mac and Cheese Wedge. Deliciousness. I’ll be back.

Dear Old School Grill, I have a confession to make. I love you. Not just a little bit but with a mad, crazy, white hot passion for everything you cook, fry, create and serve. Your Sirloin Steak Burgers are the tenderest I’ve ever eaten. I added the sharp cheddar cheese, grilled onions and jalapenos to mine. Sweet baby Jesus that was good! And the fries. Oh, the fries. Such delicious sticks of pleasure. They are perfectly crispy and exquisitely salty. And, Old School Grill, I have another confession. I broke my gluten free diet today and ate a bite of your Mac and Cheese wedge. Okay, I had more than a bite. I almost put my face in this heavenly concoction. I don’t know if it was the immediate«high» I got from the tender macaroni noodles or the(gasp) five secret cheeses layered throughout the wedge. Or, it could have been that creamy garlic cheese sauce you pour on top. Now that you know I’m in love with you, I hope you are not too disappointed that I had no room for dessert. What with that delicious malt cake with chocolate frosting and special caramel topping. I nearly lost my mind. And the temptation of the buttermilk pie and raspberry cobbler! Well, it was almost too much to bear. I realize our relationship is brand new, but I promise you, I will be back. Trust me on this. Love and kisses, Christine A.

Leaving my regular Starbucks yesterday, I noticed a yellow«Now Open» sign flapping in the breeze over what used to be some unremarkable restaurant I’d never been to called Kahuna’s. My radar immediately went off. When there’s a «Now Open» sign at a restaurant in my ‘hood, and an employee smoking on the patio… I wanna know more. I stopped the car and asked the guy what was open. He said it was called Old School BBQ, and the restaurant was meant to be «a mom-and-pop diner meets a 5-star restaurant». He specifically mentioned a «blackened bleu po’boy» and pan-seared scallops as available menu items. Interesting. He said they’d been open for about a week, were working on securing their 2AM liquor license, and should have a sign up by Wednesday. Very interesting. We were gonna kick it Old School tonight. We met an hour or so later, and were promptly seated by the hostess. Our waitress, Jenna, stopped by and I asked her if this was a brick-and-mortar version of their BBQ school bus food cart. She explained that while it was the same owners(who were sitting in the corner), the bus had been out of commission for two months while their focus was on this restaurant, called the«Old School Grill». The bus would return in September. Good to know. We began by ordering the pan seared scallops topped with buttery bread crumbs. There’s also a full bar, so Neal had a Guinness. Before that came out, I requested a tasting of their mac-n-cheese wedge, which I’d noticed was also on their food cart menu. It’s more of a mac-n-cheese pie, or quiche, and was extremely rich and flavorful due to the five Italian white cheeses and a creamy garlic cheese sauce. I’d recommend ordering the wedge and splitting it among two people. Jenna explained that usually scallops come out in fours, but since it was based on weight, we got three. Texture wise they were a little rubbery, and the seasoning lacked any sort of punch. At $ 13, next time I may forgo this appetizer and instead try the ceviche, which I noticed another table had ordered. Their menu is quite extensive, offering appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, pastas, and entrees ranging from a gargantuan cowboy ribeye to «old school fish ‘n chips». I ordered a ½ lb. steak burger(which they explained is ground fresh daily), topped with gorgonzola and thick cut bacon. Neal ordered the blackened bleu po’boy with chicken, bleu cheese, and caramelized onion on a baguette, and Lisa chose the sirloin steak salad served with a mixture of greens. She also ordered a cup of potato leek soup that came out first, and both her and Neal gave it the thumbs up. Neal and I halved our entrees so I could get a taste of each. The po’boy was easily the star of the meal, with thick strips of juicy white meat chicken and flavorful hunks of bleu cheese blending wonderfully with sauteed mushrooms. It’s messy, but delicious. The portions were more than ample, which is always a good sign. My burger was melt in your mouth delicious(even at medium well), and the toppings were a perfect compliment without being too overwhelming, Lisa said her steak was cooked perfectly and the greens were fresh; she also liked the«green goddess» dressing provided on the side. For dessert, Jenna informed us they had a buttermilk pie that was not on the menu. We had a tasting of that, as well as a full order of the chocolate malt cake. The chocolate cake tasted like an average ice box cake, although it was beautifully presented with the chocolate sauce and smooth caramel sauce designs. The buttermilk pie is where it’s at; it’s light, but decadent. If it’s not on their menu when you visit, it’s definitely worth asking for. The service was excellent. Jenna was a terrific waitress, and we had several people who made sure we were refilled on drinks. Jenna also was able to offer cohesive and accurate recommendations off the menu. It’s always irritating to hear waiters proclaim«it’s all good» when you’re looking for specific descriptions. She also made conversation, and kept the atmosphere upbeat. Just a few notes I could surmise: the menu is very extensive, but If they can produce quality food with such a wide variety of selections, then more power to them. Of course being a new restaurant, the food took a little longer to come out than usual, but it came out well, which was infinitely more important. My friend out on the patio who told me about the place also revealed they were working on a Happy Hour menu that would incorporate appetizer specials, $ 5 martinis, etc., providing for a great HH opportunity for us Unilocalers in NW Austin. And last but not least, the business is local. I’m not going to name names, but if you’re ever faced with choosing a chain that rhymes with Billy’s or Frapplebee’s, instead, go with the local guys, and get a great meal from them. 4 Stars so far.

Solidly good stuff. Currently a little hard to find as they’re behind the Starbucks with a Yellow«Now Open» sign. Once you’re inside, it’s a fun rustic atmosphere with a big ass fan. Quite literally, look up! Had to go for the $ 9 steak burger, but the toppings are nearly prohibitively expensive at $ 1 a pop. I kept it simple with just swiss this time so I could really TASTE the burger and it was good. Bun was nice, meat was juicy. Even the fries were definitely something to notice, and I’ve had a lot of bad fries before. Also happened to try a huge slice of chocolate(malt?) cake since it was my friends’ birthday — also quite good but none of us had saved much room for it. Good thing there were 5 of us to split it. It’s close to my workplace so I do hope they come out with some lunch specials, but nonetheless, I definitely see myself back here to try some other things. Their waitstaff is super friendly, nearly overbearing(a friend likened it to being a hospital patient), but I can understand, they’re new.

There is pretty much only one reason this place got three stars instead of four. Basically it boils down to me feeling like I was getting ripped off. Let me explain. So, a half pound steak burger with fries costs $ 9. There was a list of things to add to the burger for $ 1 each. If I wanted a cheeseburger with grilled onion(my standard ‘go-to’ burger) I am already hitting the $ 11 mark. That is getting a little high for a plain hamburger, even if it is made with ground steak. But that $ 11 price tag isn’t what really bothered me. It was the next thing I saw on the menu that really irked me. Right below the regular burger there was a specialty burger. It was piled high with Cheese, Jalapenos, Fried Egg, and DOUBLEMEAT(!!) for only $ 10! What that tells me is that the $ 1 add-ons, and the $ 9 price tag for the regular old burger is a straight up ripoff. It just made zero sense to me, and it set the tone to negative right away. Having said that, the $ 9 plain burger was quite good. They didn’t use a crappy ass sweet bun to mask the flavor of the meat. The toppings were fresh and cut perfectly(I love a nice thinly sliced tomato on my burger). The fries were also pretty damn good. They were well cooked, lightly salted, and just plain yummy. My friend and I both declared that the food was tasty, albeit expensive for what you get. We also both decided that if the place decided to do lunch specials(say, a ¼ steak burger for $ 6 or something) we would definitely be back. But until something like that happens, I don’t see myself going back anytime soon. Pros: Great Bun, Great Toppings, Solid Meat, Good Fries Cons: The Price, $ 1 «Extras» Were Ridiculous, Service was Just So-So

I was really excited to see that Old School BBQ had opened a brick and mortar restaurant… right by my house! I’ve never been to their school bus food trailer but have heard so many good things and I was excited to try their restaurant. Except I saw no BBQ on the menu. Whatever, we’ll try something else. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak, which came with fries. They make their cheesesteaks in true Philly style with cheez-wiz mixed in with the meat. When the waiter told me this, I instantly wished I had ordered something else, but I figured I’d give it a whirl. I’m glad I did — the cheez-wiz wasn’t overpowering like I thought it would be and it added a nice flavor. I still prefer ooey-gooey melted provolone, but this was a nice change. The meat was thin-sliced prime rib and cooked to medium. It was very tender but had some fatty parts, which I have issues with texturally. I ate half of it at the restaurant and the other half yesterday for lunch at home. It’s definitely better fresh than reheated. My husband ordered the ½lb steakburger with aged provolone and bacon. His burger also came with fries. He says he won’t get the aged provolone again because it was too much flavor for him, but wow was the bacon amazing. He said next time he’ll get no cheese and double bacon. He’s such a man. For dessert we had Melissa’s Messy Sundae(see picture). The inside and half of the outside of the goblet is coated with hard chocolate, then the goblet is filled with vanilla ice cream and topped with whipped cream and a cherry. A smear of hot fudge on the plate finishes it off perfectly. The fries were skin-on, salted to perfection, and so good. They weren’t too crispy or too soft. We were told that happy hour was going on(6:30pm on a Saturday?!) and they had beer specials and half-priced appetizers. My husband ordered a bottle of Sam Adams and it was $ 4 — not sure if that’s a discounted price or not, or if the beer specials were tap only. They had fancy silverware and real napkins, and the plates/plating were that of an upscale restaurant. Throw in the very knowledgeable and friendly waitstaff, and it makes for an awesome dining experience. The hostesses seemed to be the only thing out of place, but maybe that will change with time and experience. For the burger/fries, cheesesteak/fries, Sam Adams, and the sundae, our bill was $ 32 before tip. We’ll definitely be back and I hope this place sticks around for a while!

Are you a follower of the Old School BBQ Bus? Ever crave their delicious food, drive all the way to 6th and Waller only to find that the bus isn’t there? Well fret no more because Dan has opened a brick & mortar in North Austin. Located in what used to be Kahunas — Old School Grill is serving up burgerrs, sandwiches, pastas, desserts and more! They just had their grand opening on July 9th so definitely stop in for some good cooking! They don’t have a sign up yet so it may be easy to miss but you know you’re at the right place when you see the«Now Open» sign hanging out front. A word about the owners :-) It’s wonderful that Dan, Danny and John take the time to walk around and mingle with patrons to get their feedback so they can continue to improve and impress. I’ve tried several things on the menu and I have not been disappointed. Here are my recommendations: Brie with toasted almonds — AHHHHMAZING!!! Hands down the BEST Brie I’ve had in ATX.(bold statement, I know) Chicken Fried New York Strip — HUGE! Enough for two! Philly Cheese Steak — Oh so YUMMY Seafood Diablo — It’s SPICY… my husband is Thai and he knows spicy… if he says it’s hot, trust me it’s gonna burn! I loved this pasta dish with shrimp and scallops. For you non-spicy eaters, they can make this to your liking so don’t be afraid to request it! Shrimp Diana — tasty pasta with peppers and mushrooms Favorite item on the menu? The Texas Two Thep(named after my husband) I guess I’m a little biased huh? Actually, the burger is really good. It’s as good if not better than what Dan was serving at the bus.
