I had the soba noodles with yakatori chicken and tempura vegetables on the side. It was delicious and fresh. Good unique flavor combination with the Mexican twist. My only negatives were the wait time took a bit and I hate signing for square on cracked phones.

I was at an offsite meeting, when I walk toward the garage, and what do I see but a tiny blue food truck with no giant flowers or symbols or lettering. In fact, there was nothing about this truck, except for the line in front of it, that screamed«Eat here!». I ordered a pork carnitas taco, with tempura veggies for my side(it was that, or rice). They didn’t ask me what sauce I wanted, but it came with a green sauce. The pork was juicy, topped with jicama and marinated onions. I had to add the green sauce on top to make it taste«just so», and after that, no one could stop me from eating like there was no tomorrow. The tempura veggies were delicious, sprinkled with dashi, and remarkably flavorful. I wish they had a few healthier choices, at least for the side. I came away feeling very pleased, and only a little bit like I had cheated by letting my veggies be batter fried. I’ll definitely try them again, and taste the other items on their menu.

I’m sort of baffled by all the rave reviews. Maybe I got them on an off off off off off off off off off off off off off off off off day, because the food I had was barely edible. Actually, scratch that. It doesn’t even fall into utilitarian dining. The Yakitori was… well, it wasn’t Yakitori. Yakitori, by definition is skewered meat. Not skewered. Kind of soggy overcooked chicken breast chunks drowning in some soy based liquid. Pretty damned atrocious. The Carnitas tacos were at the very least edible, but not quite in the realm of palatable. Flavorless and watery with dried out cold corn tortillas. The Tempura Vegetables were cold, grease soaked, and chewy. Unseasoned and pretty much like chewing on an oil laden sponge. The Coconut Rice was an absolute joke. Clumpy reheated(not properly) rice splashed with coconut milk and not much of anything else. Zero flavor. Not only was the food bad… it was visually unappealing and not worth the 30 minute wait. Now, I had it at the AWBHH… so maybe they made the assumption that I was too drunk to realize they were serving shit. No…just…no…

I had the Empanadas Rojas with the coco rice and it was amazing. I can’t wait to try something else off the menu!

We have had Oyama Food Truck out at our venue serving guests twice and they never disappoint! They are an amazing crew to work with and don’t charge you high amounts just to have them at your event like most trucks do. That’s my review for the catering side! Now on to the food, their rice bowls are amazing balls!!! I have had the chicken, veggie and rice bowl both times and it has been equally as good both times. The chicken is spicy but then ends with a smooth sweet finish! The brussle sprouts are grilled and the rice is sticky and cooked just enough to not be chewy! They are reasonably priced and serve their dishes fresh, hot and fast! I love everything about this food truck!!! Thanks Oyama!

Uhhh can you say oh my goodness??? Oyama is very very delicious. My wife and I had the carnitas tacos and let me just say that this was a nice twist. I’ve had many catnitas tacos in my life but the flavors that are put together are amazing. The carnitas tacos has jicama which gives it a nice blend of sweetness. Then after our free taco(their 1 yr anniversary) we order the quesadilla and the chicken yakitori with a side of coconut rice and I gotta say WOW! AWESOME flavors and spices. I love that with the yakitori and a small spicyness that it had was nicely counteracted with the sweetness of the rice… very nice pairing. As for the quesadilla my wife loved and said she would definitely order it again. The cheese tatsed good and had a nice slight char to it to give the cheese a little crisp on the outside but very cheesy and melty on the inside mixed with some shredded beef and onions and mushrooms. Needless to say we will most definitely be going back. A small truck that packs a powerful blend of flavors and spices. A mix of Japan and Mexico and who knew. l, it works!!!

I stopped here one SXSW afternoon on a friend’s recommendation, and after finding that the truck had no line(!), ended up paying $ 8.50(plus a $ 2 tip) for two sizable brisket quesadillas + tempura vegetables. The quesadillas were great, and the tempura crisp and flavorful without being overdone. All in all, the portion sizes were enough to keep me going from the late afternoon until I hit the sack around 3am. The guys in the truck made me feel like a new friend. I’ll definitely be coming here again.

Truck was at Adelbert’s brewery this Saturday. Had the quesadilla(after only 2 beers). It was amazing. Grilled to perfection, sauces were great, and the tempura veg on the side were perfect. Veg still crunchy, not overcooked like so much tempura can be. Highly recommend if they are in your area.

Amazing carnitas tacos. Ridiculously good spiced veggie tempura. Blue corn quesadillas to die for — the perfect comfort food. Do yourself a favor and eat here at least once in your life.

Is grilled broccoli the new Brussels sprouts?! Because the broccoli here was so delicious that I am glad I skipped the tempura battered option. The carnitas tacos knocked it out of the park, with cubed grilled pork, grilled jicama and red onions, a kickin’ chimichurri sauce and fresh tasting corn tortillas. My meal(2 stuffed tacos and a veggie side) was a reasonable $ 7.50.

We had Oyama out to our brewery(Adelbert’s) during our tour this past weekend and they were absolutely awesome. The guys running the truck are super nice and make amazing food. Personally, I had the carnitas tacos and empanadas. The carnitas had a tender flavorful pork in fresh tortillas topped with what I believe was daikon and fresh cilantro. They were fantastic tacos on their own, but then they serve it with a side of chimichurri sauce that just puts them over the top. The veggie empanadas were flavorful and fresh and served with a dip reminiscent of tartar sauce. All of our staff and patrons enjoyed everything they had. One guy event walked out to bow down a thank you to the chefs for their carnitas tacos! We look forward to having them as a regular visitor at our brewery.

Really tasty carnitas, coconut rice. Flavor and ingredients are 4-star but prices and portion size bring it down to a 3. Hope they make it. :)

Carnitas Tacos were awesome! Great juicy, tender meat! Cool friendly people… and the sauce that came with the tacos was the cherry on top for me! Overall: Excellent!

$ 13.00 for 4 small tacos and no sides. Not a good value from a trailer. I feel they are overpriced for the offerings but pretty good flavor profile and the salsa was interesting, no chips to go with it, but it wasn’t that kind of salsa anyways. Carnitas taco a little boring, but the Chicken was pretty awesome. The red marinade on the chicken was very flavorful and I could have eaten a boatload of it. The tortillas were pretty good and fresh. You can tell the food here is fresh and I appreciate that. They have good service and decent food, not sure i’ll be going back as I can go to La Condesa for expensive tacos.

Went here for the second time today and I’m still thoroughly impressed. Texted my order in as well as two ominvoir coworkers. Food was ready in ten minutes. Soba was great, salsas are creative, coconut rice is very good. Coworkers got carnitas tacos which they said were great. They also agree that the lintels are freaking amazing. Best I’ve ever had Great guys cooking great food for $ 6 or less. Check them out.

OYAMA indeed provides the perfect mix of Japanese and Mexican, as the masterminds behind this bright blue trailer advertise. Generally, these fusion joints do not split the character 50 – 50, but I would say Oyama gets mighty close. The blending of other assorted ingredients highlights the chef’s creativity. The unique character of the cuisines and flavors felt a smidgen over the top, but by no means in an undesirable fashion. You will find this concept to bleed into the sauces: green onion-almond, basic red salsa, and kewpie(Japanese mayonnaise) crème. First and foremost, the prices seem far too low for the amount of care that goes into the grub. For less than $ 8, you can get a full meal, with a side and all 3 sauces. As I mentioned before, certain dishes illustrate the blending of multiple techniques. Specifically, they toss miso into the lentils, thus making the pulse a salty, exotic porridge of sorts. The empanadas, with rojo masa(yes, red!), afford your bite a crunchy exterior encased around purple yam and mushrooms. Japanese-centric ingredients packed into a well fried dough pocket; well executed, indeed. The two men running this new kid right off of I-35 make you feel right at home and do exactly what they love: cooking what they like, shooting the breeze with customers, and kicking back and enjoying the weather.

Awesome food. Awesome people working there. Try the carnitas everyone is raving about, you won’t be disappointed. Hurry before a line starts forming around the block(trust me, there will) and enjoy a truly unique food truck in Austin.

Humans are inherently selfish creatures. We play nice mostly because society tells us we should. Let’s be real though– if there was something like a zombie apocalypse, you’d save yourself first before maybe trying to save me. Well, I’d like to think of myself as a notch above the rest. While not quiiiite comparable to escaping flesh eating zombies, I’ve decided to be a bigger person and post this review. I’m not a huge poultry fan(red meat is definitely more of my thing), and I just had the juiciest, most tender chicken I’ve ever tasted. With the exception of bacon, Hubs isn’t a huge pork fan(he prefers his red meat as well), and now he can’t stop raving about the carnitas. The lentils were super flavorful, the red sauce is delicious, and the coconut rice is making me salivate just thinking about it. Besides pausing occasionally to ask for more of his rice, Hubs and I had lunch in silence. After the food was depleted, we had a brief conversation that kind of went like this: –Crap, I need to get back to work. –Ok…but can we get more of the carnitas though? –Yeah, you mean like for dinner tonight? –No, I mean for second lunch. That’s all I want to eat now. This place is pretty brand spankin’ new and currently LINE-FREE. I don’t expect it to be line-free for too long though, and if you’ve read my Franklin review, you’ll already know that I hate lines. And here I am– being all selfless and shit– and sharing all of this Oyama goodness with you. Oh and by the way, don’t pay any attention to the map. It lies. The food truck is located on the northbound corner of I-35 and 30th in the same parking lot as Velvet Ends Salon. You’re welcome.

Good food. Lots of smokey flavor. BRIGHTBLUETRUCK. Seriously, that bright aqua paint job is what pulled me in. I grabbed the Chicken Yakitori. These guys are bad asses and invested in a sous-vide machine. They sous-vide it at home and then grill it over yakitori grill. Chicken was moist and smokey with a nice red marinade. Bonus was the bed of fresh shitake, onions and brocoli that were also grilled. It comes with a side. I grabbed the coconut rice which was like coconut sticky rice which was semi-sweet and just went well with chicken. They give you choice of 3 sauces. If you go now, they’ll let you try them all. Honestly I wouldn’t know what to pick next time as they are all tasty. Overall the chicken yakitori was just some good comfort food. Drink — Jamaica or hibiscus tea with lime juice — It’s really refreshing so i recommend trying it out.
