Steak ‘n Shake

We had never eaten here but always wondered because of the yummy smells… went online and looked at the menu. Awesome prices and food pics looked great. I tried to order online but was prompted to call in my order due to problems with site.
So I called in but to a very nice gentleman and placed my order
he repeated it back to me perfectly. I asked him can i go thru the drive thru or come inside and he said either one is fine.
It took me 6 mins to get there and get in the line.
Wow…the rude drive thru lady was a hilarious start to a horrible meal. She acted as if I did something wrong picking up in the drive thru even though I added to my phone order.
When we finally got the order at the windows it was not correct with my fries and I asked the lady and she said they didn’t charge me for them so it was too late and do have a good day.
When we got home and got the food out of the bag the fries were cold like frozen no taste store fries cooked in the microwave then left on the counter to get soggy and cold. Gross
Worst fries ever!!!

No meat looks like this. First bite you eat entire quarter sized meat and leave over half of a bun .

Worst place ever. Spare yourself the grief of coming there. It takes them a whole 10 minutes to just seat you, then another 10 mins for the waiter to acknowledge your there. I didn’t even want to give it a 1 star.. Will never be going there again… it needs a whole new management team and new crew.

I ordered a butter cookie shake and jerk burger. Shake was just right not too thick and not to thin. Great flavor. Confused me for a second do to it tasted like a snickerdoodle instead of a butter cookie. Jerk burger was just a spicy burger unfortunately not a true jerk sauce but thats ok. Patty was seasoned well buns werent toasted. For 2 burger meals and 2 shakes it was 18.00 so price is fair especially for a couples night. Diner atmosphere i enjoy. Service i was minimum. She said have a great day after fiving us food like she was ready to leave or ready for us to leave. Just a kid with spunk i guess. We have enjoyed MUCH better steak and shakes other than this one. I will give this location a second chance sometime.

Been here twice tbe food is good. No complaints, the service can sometimes be a little slow when they are really busy. The restrooms need serious attention and are appalling.

Here the midwesterner in me comes through. The best quick service restaurant chain! On china! 24 hours! Old school skinny burger, but better beef! Great chili. Cherry limeade makes Sonic look silly. I drive 40 minutes to get my monthly fix… Sridar, put one in Lakeway or Dripping Springs!

I just left there after waiting for 10 mins. Server never returned to even ask for a drink order. Our server then seated another set of customers, she took their drink order and food order. But, never returned to ask for ours. Talked with the manager about the poor customer service and would not provide me with a means to file a complaint.

If I could give no stars I would! This is the worst place I have ever eaten. It took forever for the waitress to take our order. The place is incredibly dirty and the bathrooms are disgusting. I’m not sure the health inspector has ever been in this place or I think they would shut it down. To top the whole experience off, the manager took my credit card to pay for the meal and coughed on it! I have never been so disgusted and disappointed. We have eaten at the Steak and Shake in Round Rock and it is miles above this place!!!

First time eating here. I liked it. Dining area was clean. My waitress was nice. My food came out quickly and was hot and fresh. I’d eat here again.

We come here occasionally because the burgers are pretty good and the kids like it. Service is just S-​L-​O-​W. Two small shakes took 15 minutes to come out. Food took quite a while even though there were only 3 – 4 other tables (and they all had their food by the time we got there). Our server was polite but once our food came she never came back. And honestly, I have to wonder how the food can be SO cheap. I appreciate a good bargain but you have to wonder what corners they’re cutting.

I always loved their chili cheese fries. so today I thought I’d stop by during my lunch break. so I went through the drive-​thru and ordered a large chili cheese fry. after waiting 10 mins or so, I changed my mind that I wanted a small instead of the large. the employee proceeded to tell me he needed the manager for a refund (I didn’t pay yet). She came to the window and began to ask why I wanted a small and told
me she would «allow» it this one time and that it wouldn’t happen again. why? because she didn’t want to waste a container. her attitude came off as rude and I wasn’t pleased. I’ve been to plenty of places where I change my order and it’s never been questioned or hassled.
Therefore, if anyone ever comes across that manager I did today, don’t ask for a size change on your order or she may not «allow» it.

Flavorless burgers and fries and rings. Rings soft and coolish. People were leaving full plates of fries when they finished. Very slow service from ordering to table. Nice waitress who tried very hard. We didn’t realize you had to wait to be seated and tip a waitress. It looks like fast food. It smells like fast food but it ranks lower than any fast food burger joint we’ve ever been to.

First time ever at a steak & shake. The burgers are good! I was quite surprised! The kids hot dog & grilled cheese were both really good too. again surprised! I ordered Cajun fries, but it was just a sprinkle of seasoning salt on top which meant too much on some bites and not enough on others. The fries are really good too, thin & crispy! They ran out of Dr Pepper! *sad* lol
We had the luck of coming in behind 2 big parties & there was a lot of confusion on arranging seating, took about 5 minutes to get sat while servers mulled around in confusion, with one particular jerk just glaring at everyone. I am justified in calling this guy a jerk by how he talks to and treats his fellow employees. Constantly asking others to do his drinks and shakes and when they do, and tell him they’re ready, he rudely tells them he’ll get to them when he’s done putting an order in and when the other employee calls for someone to run them for him, he yelled at them. There were other things he was doing, including making fun of a table not speaking English and another using sign language. I would say I’m over reacting but my husband agreed this guy is a d****ecanoe. I love being glared at while eating.
Oh, kids plates are free on weekends.1 kids plate per $ 8. Easily done with the order of shakes ;) burger patties are on the small side, but equal to the price, and the flavor is great!
Destenee was awesome just fyi. She took our order fast and got it to us so fast I was seriously surprised! :D
Thank you to the manager for addressing my complaints, moved up to 4 stars. Food was GOOD!

This is my second experience here and both times the service has been horrible. Slow and rude staff. Enjoy the food but very discouraged by how it is ran. Needs emprovement on the floor.

I can’t even comprehend how this place is still in business.
We came in mid-​morning on a Saturday and were 1 of only a handful of tables. There were 2 wait-​persons, and at least 3 cooks in the kitchen.
Took 10 minutes before we were waited on, another 10 before we were allowed to place our food order (our mistake for not getting it in with the water…), and then took 60 more minutes to get 4 breakfast tacos, a biscuit, kids pancakes, and some eggs. Food was barely edible to top it off.
I’m am disheartened by the fact that 5 of us wasted an hour and a half of our lives on such an aberration of a dining experience.
1 star, not going back, wasted enough of my life at this place, enough said.

Look guys, I never write bad reviews. It takes a lot to get me this upset to feel like I have to warn people what to expect when visiting a place. That being said, this place has some MAJOR issues. First off, every… single… time I have come here and ordered inside, they get my order wrong. Without fail. I started keeping track and they’ve gotten it wrong the last 5 times I’ve come here. This last time I heard the waiter repeat it back to me, so I must assume that the kitchen just consistently messes up orders.
But forget asking them to correct it unless you want to wait another 15 – 20 minutes for your food. Because if you eat inside, you will be doing a lot of waiting. It’s not fast food. It’s a diner. If you want it relatively quick, go through the drive thru.
All of this being said, I really do like their food. Their shakes are the best. It’s just really too bad that they have NEVER gotten my order correct… And all I ask for is no mayo, no onion. Why is that so hard???

I’d LOVE to know what their ACTUAL hours of operation are, because they keep randomly changing, a d they open and close whenever they feel like.
I’d *like* to be able to stop in here around 6:30am when I get off work (night shift worker) and get a milkshake at 6:30am. Working nights sucks, and it’s nice to know there’s *some* place that doesn’t cater to the normal 9 to 5. BUT… no. We can’t do that, can we?
You have an ad on your window that says «Breakfast 6am-​11am» yet your doors are locked at 6am and you aren’t even open. On top of *that*, the sign on your entrance door says «open 24 hours». Yet your hours posted on your website says 6am. So, with all the discrepancy, I have no idea if you open at 6, 7, are 24 hours or what. Yet, I call, while sitting outside in your parking lot at 6:30am to ask what time you open (as I see workers inside) and I get told 7:15. 7:15?! WHO THE HELL OPENS FOR BUSINESS AT A RANDOM 7:15?! If you’re not ready to open when you’re supposed to be, that’s fine. But just fess up and say so. Say, «Sorry, we ran late and we’re going to be opening a little later than usual» but don’t
and tell me you open at 7:15am. That’s stupid. Do you think *I’M* stupid? Obviously. Well, I’m not.
In fact, I’m so NOT stupid, that I know that franchises have corporate offices, and you better believe I called them when you tried to tell a customer that your hours of operation are «whatever time we feel like. Sorry you’re outside sitting in the parking lot».
Anyway, when I finally went in, not only is the waitstaff very untrained on how to be a waitstaff (not courteous or friendly or helpful AT ALL) I have to ASK YOU for a napkin when I obviously just ordered fries with seasoning all over them, and a burger with all kinds of goopy messy stuff on it. Do you think we don’t need napkins?! And this has happened not ONCE, but the last TWO times I’ve went there. No napkins offered. When I finally ask for some, I’m LUCKY if I get *one* napkin. Even when I *specificially* ask for «a stack of napkins». I’m sorry, is there some global napkin shortage I’m unaware of? Should I be thankful for my ONE napkin? Why thank you so much Master! Please Sir, may I have another? WTF?!

Steak and Shake, you have breached the Holy Social Contract of Fast Food, which sounds something like this: «Yeah, I just ate enough carbs for the day, enough fat for the week, and enough sugar to blacken my toes, but … Mmmmmm, that was worth it.»
I’ll be blunt: the shake wasn’t worth the effort to spoon it to my face. It would have been good for Wendy’s or McDonald’s, but for an establishment that puts «Shake» in their name, I would expect much more.
As a result, I did the unthinkable: I didn’t finish it, and when my wife offered her shake, I told her I was «ok.» What a sad, sad day for my mouth.

I was here yesterday. We went thru the drive thru and it was a little wait only because the guy in front of me ordered half the menu items! Once Mr. Stoner got his food I pulled up, paid and off I went.
I had the double, fries and a cup of chili. Burger was great fries were pretty crappy and the chili was good but not enough meat and beans.
Minus the fries the food was delicious.

This place has kinda gone down hill in my opinion. I am still going to go here, and its still ok. The food is fine, but the service is ehh.
I went here twice now and it took forever for us to get seated, and I had to ask multiple times for things.
Also the check took way to long for us to get it.
As for steak and shake, the food is always the same, and its still good.
