Sunday Morning for us will never be the same again!!! The buffet was a nice side dish, but the band was the main attraction! We got to sing on stage with them and even heard a impromptu jam session afterwards. If you ever in Austin you definitely need to visit STUBBS On 8th street!!!

Walked in and were seated immediately because this place is huge! Our waiter seemed quite sluggish but eventually made his way over to our table. He did offer recommendations of what the restaurant was well known for and that was appreciated. I ordered the beef brisket which was good but was noticeably cool like it had been sitting for a while(waiter error)? The meat was tasty and the BBQ sauce was memorable. Mashed sweet potatoes were delicious and the Serrano cheese spinach was phenomenal. Not in a rush to return but would love to come When they have live music.

So my girlfriend and I just came from the worst bbq place in the world, Stubbs was our first place because it’s bomb obviously. We came in and asked how long until they closed, the hostess replied 8 minutes. I walked out upset, but Mariah took care of us so well and insisted on taking care of us. she put us food Togo, and had beers while we waited. It was a quality reminder of why we Always choose Stubbs. She was awesome. Stubbs is definitely lucky to have her.

Went to Stubb’s originally for a show in the downstairs area, but as the wait to get in was quite long I ended up both eating and having a few drinks here. The food was really good, nothing fancy but more than decent bar food. I have spent very little time in Texas, so I honestly don’t know what to compare it to. The staff was friendly, the food was fast and with the opportunity to chose between seeing bands sound check and sitting in the back dining room there really wasn’t anything I could complain about. The downstairs venue itself is really good. It is the right size for an intimate show, the PA is good and there’s room to breathe. Venue staff(especially security) is some of the friendliest I’ve met. Unfortunately they don’t really have control over ticketing, and when the line was ready to go in for the show there were some mixups. But all in all I can recommend Stubb’s for both food and shows!

I don’t usually write reviews, but if I can help steer even one smoked meat enthusiast away from this place, I’ll have made the world a better place. Wish someone would’ve done that for me. My visit was massively disappointing. Brisket was drier than the friggin’ Sahara. Pulled pork wasn’t much better. And the sauce couldn’t save them. The ribs were okay, though. The service was fine, too. We went to Iron Works the next day to try to salvage our Austin BBQ experience. Their brisket was infinitely better. Melted in my mouth. That’s what I expected from Texas BBQ.

Review for the Sunday Gospel Brunch: My boyfriend and I visited Austin a few weeks ago and heard Stubb’s BBQ is one of the BBQ places we should visit. Thankfully I was able to make reservations the Friday before since I heard it could get booked up fairly quickly. We did not get seats dowstairs where you can actually see the band; however, we sat upstairs and were able to hear the music clearly and the staff encourages you to walk downstairs if you want to watch the band play. It is a buffet AYCE style with traditional breakfast dishes(scrambled eggs, pancakes, biscuits, beans, fruits, pies, etc). I tried the brisket, sausage and chicken — all pretty good but wouldn’t say it was the best BBQ i’ve had. Overall, my 4 star rating is really due to the whole experience in itself. I really enjoyed listening to the gospel band play and no one can complain for all you can eat at 10:30am :)

Best dang BBQ I’ve ever tasted. We had brisket and ribs. Well prepared and tasty. The coleslaw and BBQ beans are a must. Customer service was very good. This is a must! Don’t miss out on this place.

Gospel Brunch: Three stars for food but five stars for experience! We got prime seating in the basement, up front and personal with the band! I know my brother called in advance to reserve these seats, but there will still be a line out the door to get into the restaurant on Sunday AMs. It costs around $ 20/person and is all you can eat. The music was awesome and the vocalists were definitely extremely talented! We loved the atmosphere with everyone around us seeming to feel the same excitement on a Sunday morning. The food is served buffet style with a variety of different brunch items, from eggs to tamales and fruit to BBQ, there was definitely enough to fill your plates! There is even a well stocked Bloody Mary bar, but unfortunately I didn’t make it to this area. This definitely was not my favorite barbecue experience in Austin or my favorite food experience, but the live music and atmosphere still make it something I recommend at least once for anyone living in/visiting Austin!

We ate dinner here on Sunday night when it wasn’t very crowded. We sat at a little high top table at the bar, where we could hear some music from downstairs. It was very nice until the food arrived. The small table was a bit of a mistake considering the amount of food we ordered… We split a wide range of meats and sides. All of it was very good. For sides, the mac and cheese and the sweet potato fries stood out. The service was outstanding. It was a very good experience overall.

Solid bbq and a great place. Before I get to the food I should mention they are a famous music venue as well with frequent concerts from big name bands. They have a big outside concert area as well as a smaller more intimate inside one. It may not be the best bbq in town but it’s still a lot better than most. Prices are reasonable as well. The dining area has a very cool atmosphere and feels like an old ranch house with stone walls and aged wood flooring.

We were visiting here from Las Vegas and we heard that this place had a good barbecue. We did the all-you-can-eat option and order brisket, jalapeño sausage and ribs. Our sides were the spinach(sooo good and soo creamy with a spicy kick) the beans and potato salad. It’s served with a slice of bread and we also ordered cornbread with ours. The sweet tea was delicious. And the amount of food we received was huge for the 4 people in our party. The brisket was the most Delicious slice of meat I have ever had. I wish I could’ve sent some home with me ;(If there’s anything I remember from Austin it will be the brisket. So maybe wasn’t worth it to get the other meat as it was decent but not anything to go out of the way for. And as I said the spinach was awesome as well. We only ordered a little more brisket as we were so full from the first round

Looks as some have this as a hit or miss reading other reviews. I must say this is a hit, really good stuff from the legendary Stubbs restaurant. –The sauce, which is sold in stores is one of the best. On a different level for real. –Mac n cheese was the shell kind with a ton of runny sauce. I like it like that, they make it right for my taste buds at least. –Greens had great flavor to them. –Pulled pork was really good, had some nice bark on the pieces I had. –Brisket was more on the lean side and had some nice smoke flavor. Overall this was a great place that lived up to the hype for me. There wasn’t anything wrong I could see, service was great, nice atmosphere, and food comes fast. I would for sure come back here.

Our Austin bucket list called for some good ol’ Texas barbecue. Couldn’t wait… screw the diet, let me at it! Stubbs was recommend by a friend who went to UT Austin so we decided to try it. We ordered a combination platter and decided to share. We had the pulled pork, brisket and chicken. Gotta say, not my favorite vacation meal. First of all it was lunch time and the place was nearly empty. That should have been our first clue that something was awry. Service was quick but likely because it was empty! The best I can say is that the sweet potato mash was pretty good. I could have eaten it all. The worst part of the meal was the actual all important protein. The beef was mostly fat and was so greasy, I could’t eat it. The chicken was pretty tasty but much better with the BBQ sauce of course. All this to say, I was disappointed. I’d like a do, please! I guess I will continue my search for the perfect Texas barbecue. Wish me luck!

Service was not great, we were a big party(14) and they seemed a little dismayed with having us there. Food was OK, good, but far from the best BBQ I have had in Austin. What was really great about this place, was that we were able to see a live show after dinner. And THAT was a fantastic Johnny Cash cover. I am sure, if given the option, I would come back. But I would probably eat elsewhere(Austin is full of amazing food) and just come for the show.

My expectations were higher for this than they delivered. But I will say super fast service, almost a little tooooo fast if you ask me. Also, a homeless guy wandered in and asked my friend for money while he was in the process of using the bathroom. First for everything!

A bit overrated if you ask me. We went with a large group and the food was just ok. Not as legendary as everyone makes it out to be. The inside area was laid out a bit weird a felt a little stuffy. Service was so so. Probably not a bad spot to see an outdoor concert.

First time to this iconic establishment. Sunday brunch and live gospel. Nice selection of food.pancakes.eggs.enchiladas, brisket, chicken, sausage… all what you would expect from a nationally noted place. Top rate food.music.almost made me give a jumping AMEN. As a side note. if it a holiday. make SURE you make reservations! It does get crowded for Sunday brunch!

This place was pretty nice. Staff is friendly. The angus beef brisket is a must have. Pulled pork is okay. The sweet potato fries are very good.(Sweet potato mash is a definite NO-NO! It does not taste good!) The fried okra is good. The side of spinach has a little spicey kick to it. Mac n cheese was bland and tasted like it was missing something. We got corn bread and they didn’t tell us in advance it has JALAPEÑO in it. It did not taste good. Overall, a good place to check out if you’re in the area

We went here for gospel brunch which is at 1030am and 1230 am every Sunday. Be sure to have reservations which can get on their website. I would also recommend paying more to sit closer to the stage! The band was great and played many great gospel hits. It was a very spiritual experience especially after a few bloody marys and mimosas. The combination of great gospel music and great drinks convinced me that there was a higher power. Can I get a witness? The food is buffet style and then there is a carving station. The food was decent but not exceptional. It was ‘buffet good.’ but not ‘Vegas buffet good.’ Of note, there are vegetarian options if that is your thing. I enjoyed the eggs. The grits were tasty. And oh the buttermilk biscuits… Yum. But the pancakes were blah as were some other things. But then again, you don’t come to gospel brunch for the food. All in all I was very pleased. The service was good and friendly. No complaints there. Be sure to walk around the venue and look at all the old concert posters. This is quite awesome. Tips: 1. Get reservations. 2. Get seats close to the stage. 3. Drink a bloody mary!

Stubb’s BBQ is probably more famous for it’s sauce which is found in grocery stores around the world, but the BBQ here isn’t bad either. We visited around closing time a few years back and were disappointed with poor service, an incredibly depleted menu, and bad impressions of the place, but on a business trip, the touristy joint seemed worthy of another try. I’m glad I gave it another chance. This time, at a more reasonable dinner hour, the full menu was available and service was great. The beer menu wasn’t huge, but there were a few good local craft beers on it that went well with smoked meat. The brisket was exceptional, nice and smokey and well seasoned, but not terribly dry, though a bit more dry than some of the best BBQ joints I frequent in NYC. Luckily there is ample sauce at Stubb’s to go with it. The ribs were surprisingly excellent as well. I have grown used to the mediocre ribs one finds on the East Coast that tend to be dried out, and the Stubb’s version was a surprising reminder of what good ribs can be. The sides were good, but not exceptional. I found the fried okra to be a bit dry and the mac and cheese to be extremely heavy. Luckily the excellent local beer helped wash both down. There are better quality BBQ places in town, but the atmosphere and ambiance here of old Austin bring a certain something that is hard to match.

We’ve been to Stubb’s a few times now and really enjoy it! My husband and I like their bbq sauce! Tea is good as well! Try the turkey breast – it’s juicy and delicious! We weren’t impressed with the sliced brisket, but we really enjoyed the ribs! It’s a must-stop now place! If you like rich spinach, try it! It’s almost like a dip but it’s quite delicious! The Mac and cheese is hit or miss, but the Queso is always delicious! Kids enjoyed the chicken strips and French fries! Warning – if you go downstairs to the restroom, it is a little spooky!

Stubs… two thumbs down Went to Texas expecting awesome BBQ and got flat and barely any smokey flavor at all. I got the beef brisket w onion rings, on Texas slides bread. When the food came the sandwich was on a hamburger bun and not the sliced bread. Tried it any ways and thought, hopefully it’s better on the correct bread. Had them fix it and no change. Terrible Their BBQ sauce, «legendary» tasted like thin peppery catchup. Stay away! Found a guy in a little cart selling pulled pork and brisket that was more portion and full of flavor.

Stubbs BBQ is legendary BBQ since 1969(hahaha) in Austin. After all the years I have been to Austin my husband and I finally got a chance to checked Stubb’s out. My husband and I shared the Stubb’s major combo platter which was any meats and 2 sides. Our meats we decided on were the brisket, sausage and chicken. For the two sides we decided on onion rings and fried okra. The brisket honestly taste was off. I am a Rudy’s BBQ fan and will probably always be. The brisket just seemed way too moist if that is possible. The chicken was juicy but was missing something. I think it had to much sauce on it. The sausage was the house recipe but nothing special. The onion rings were fried but not crispy. The only thing I enjoyed to be honest was the fried okra and the service. The service was fast and the waitress was very friendly. Maybe next time I will grab a drink at the bar or catch a live music show because I really like the atmosphere.

Thanks to Tracey S for the Walking Tour of Austin last November. We passed by so many restaurants and nothing grabbed my interest. Before I saw the sign, I smelled the smoked meat aroma. I had a good feeling and I want to eat here. I had no idea about this place until I saw the label on the BBQ jar. Oh okay, I know Stubb’s. I tried the BBQ sauce before. So, I ordered a small salad and a quarter pound of pulled pork. I looked around and I kind of enjoyed this historic building. It was a busy Saturday night and we were seated pretty quickly. Restroom was located downstairs. It was so noisy. I didn’t get to see if it was a live band or just a DJ. The food arrived at room temperature. I didn’t mind warm salad but lukewarm meat, not my style. I squeezed about half bottle of BBQ sauce on the pork because it wasn’t flavorful enough. It was so embarrassing to eat like a wet mess. Okay. I have 3 words about this place: I was here.

I’d love to go back and order off of their regular menu, we came for the Sunday Gospel Brunch. The brunch was not over the top and I prefer it that way, it makes choosing easier and the line moving. I do wish some things were labeled because I wasn’t aware there was more than brisket at the meat station; my husband came back with chicken and I was like, where the heck was that?! Anyway, the food that I sampled was delish, it inspired me to make breakfast for dinner the next week(their vegetarian huevos rancheros are bomb!). The band moved my soul, the singers were on point and the voices tugged at my heart, I mean that is the point of gospel music. I love that there are seating options to see the band or not see the band(discount for this option). We made our reservation the night before and only a few tables NOT in view of the band were available so I would not delay on reservations unless you don’t mind. I do have to say that the music was incredibly loud so I’m glad we didn’t get seated near the band, no way we could have even talked during brunch… and with a little one(1 y.o.) it would have been too much for her ears. Definitely make reservations, some tables were sat as others filtered out but they were told by a server that whatever food was out, that was it… more food wouldn’t be put out until the next seating and they needed reservations to stay(we went to the early one). I heard the host explaining this to people before they were sat so I’d have to say it was known to them before they officially took their seats. Each seating is 1 hour which is enough time to fill up, enjoy music, and head home to nap ;-) Don’t show up at 11:15 expecting a full buffet table. So yes, come here for sure, it’s a fun experience. I want to come back for some bbq!

Had the brisket, pork ribs and chopped pork. Never had so tender meat in my life! Fries were great too, only I didn’t like the spinach. I’m giving it 4-stars just because it’s Stubb’s. If it didn’t have the reputation and history it does, I would be giving it just 3-stars. When you’re in Austin you expect out of this world BBQ. The food I had at Stubb’s was the same I would get anywhere else in the country. It was average at best. The atmosphere was kinda lame and commercialized. It didn’t have that authentic Texas BBQ joint feel that I was looking for. I’m sure this place would be a blast on concert night, but if you’re looking for real-deal Texas BBQ, I would look elsewhere.

In Austin for a friend’s bachelor party we were in search for good BBQ close to where we were staying. Being from Florida, we have Stubb’s BBQ sauce in our grocery stores and I have definitely been a fan of the sauce long before realizing there was a restaurant as well. We arrived to the restaurant and were greeted by a hostess shortly thereafter. There was a live band playing music which was blocked off for a private party. Still a cool vibe floated throughout the bar/waiting area. The restaurant was relatively crowded for a Thursday night and since we were a large group the wait was close to 30 minutes. The wait was well worth it! I was told everything was bigger in TEXAS and the portions at Stubb’s definitely fit the billing. I order the one meat, two side meal and was definitely satisfied with the portion. The waitress recommended the brisket which was supposedly their best seller. In addition, I opted for sweet potato fries and the giant onion rings. The food came pretty quickly and it definitely did not disappoint! The brisket was flavorful, tender and the Stubb’s BBQ sauce of course complimented the meat perfectly. The giant onion rings and sweet potato fries were also very tasty. I also tasted the jalapeño corn bread Mac n cheese. I was very pleased with my Stubb’s experience. If ever back in the Austin I would surely visit Stubb’s again. I would also recommend this place to all my family and friends who are in the Austin area.

No doubt this is one of the better locations for BBQ. Restaurant style that is. The food is well prepared, well presented, cooked perfectly and very flavorful. Excellent sides and the portions are perfect. The draw here is that it’s music venue is exceptional. Stop in for a dinner, some good music, indoor or out, then head for a stroll down rainy street. I think that would size up the perfect evening. I’m definitely a fan… full bar available.

I know, I know, there is much«better» BBQ in Austin, but hey, when you exist in a city with so many great options, even mediocre is delicious in comparison. My group actually ended up at Stubb’s not because we were on a BBQ hunt, but rather because it was a quick walk from our hotel — any form of solid food would have sufficed. I’d been to Stubb’s several times before when visiting Austin, but for most of our group this was their first exposure to Texas BBQ. Arriving around 11:30AM on a Saturday proved to be perfect for avoiding the crowd, which we saw slowly growing as we enjoyed our meals. I pushed for the AYCE meal deal but was quickly shot down due to lack of consensus, a mandatory requirement to keep the meat flowing. My second choice was the meal offering three meats and two sides… «Stubb’s Major?» I went for the brisket, ribs and pulled pork with the mac ‘n’ cheese and potato salad for my sides. The brisket was my absolute favorite! Once slathered in sauce it simply melted in my mouth and made me care less about anything else on my plate/tray. Don’t get me wrong, it was all good, but that brisket stole the show for me. Service was prompt, playful and our server was nothing short of tolerating when dealing with us — thank you for that!

Buddies in Austin told me to visit this place when I was in town. Traveled all over to eat BBQ, but this place is pretty good. The brisket was so tender and moist, it just pulled apart so easily. The ribs also fell delicately off the bone like how mouthwatering BBQ should. The sides were also tasty, particularly the fresh coleslaw and mashed sweet potatoes(my fav)! For appetizers, I recommend getting the fried green tomatoes. You get six pieces to dip into an awesome ranch sauce. Overall, I’d give it four out of five stars though because it was a little expensive for what you get compared to other areas I’ve been with just as good BBQ. For example, one meat platter with two sides costs around $ 15, two meat for $ 17 and three meat for $ 18. At other places, I could get a three meat platter for $ 14.
