I’m not a Texas barbecue expert – I’m sorry, but it took a lot work to unlearn the Kansas City style – but I have at least tried Franklin’s(believe me La and Micklethwait are on my to-do list) and understand what 5-star barbecue means. I went to Bar-B-Q Heaven with no expectations(and unlike some reviews, sober) just hoping to kill some time before a movie and Christ on a cracker it blew me away. Super tender meat, just the right amount of fat on the brisket and crazy delicious. The only reason I’m giving it four stars is because I had it sauced and didn’t try the ribs. I look forward to going back again and giving it that fifth star.

I have eaten a LOT of BBQ in and around the Austin area. I have been to Franklin’s and it was amazing. This place has always consistently made the top notch BBQ that I crave. The quality is consistently superb and the service is incomparable from any other food truck. The owner has been a pit master for over 30+ years, and he knows his stuff! If you love REAL, authentic Texas BBQ, go eat here! I’ll keep coming back as long as I’m alive!

Friendly. Cheap. Tasty. Filling. Minus 1 star because it was really fatty.

Excellent late night barbecue! I ordered the two meat plate and was more than happy with it. The brisket was served exactly how I requested and love and the sausage was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The smoke flavor was perfect and every bite was full of barbecuey goodness. This little trailer is definitely a gem and the lady at the window is super sweet. I’ll definitely be back when another barbecue craving strikes past midnight.

Order the one meat chicken plate. The meat was dry with little flavor, potato salad was runny. Beans were blah. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all.

I had already tried out Stubbs nearby, and Franklins wasn’t open for dinner — so I thought I’d try out this food truck. Definitely worth it. The staff was super cool, there’s seating outside, and the portions were really good for the price. If you don’t mind eating outdoors, I’d recommend this over Stubbs.

The 2 meat plate(ribs and sausage) was delicious. Now I personally didn’t care for the potato salad, it was a tad to sweet and wet for my taste but still a decent side. Excellent customer service and great food

Bbq truck located right on sixth street, good for a quick and cheap meal but quality is alright, we shared the ribs and brisket combo and I think it was drenched in too much sauce, the ribs were fall off the bone and tender but the brisket was a bit chewy, there is patio seating in front of the food truck but no free parking, this place opens til 4am so I guess it’s a good option if your looking for a late nite snack after drinking

If you want great bbq, without the fuss, this is your place. The owners are the nicest people in Austin and always have a smile. The brisket sandwich is absolutely the best in Austin. No frills, just fantastic food. I’m a local and have never been disappointed either early evening or late night. Do yourself a favor and stop by.

Fast, friendly service and great food! I don’t really know much about BBQ so I can’t comment on «authenticity», but everything tasted great!

Awesome BBQ! great prices, there’s just not really anywhere to sit and enjoy yourself. Also, there’s a homeless shelter up the street, 1 block away, now it didn’t bother me to see this, but I know a lot of other people actually get uncomfortable in situations like that. Honestly, this place would be worth it if there was a ring of fire around it. IT’S GOOD. Get the pulled pork, or brisket, you cannot go wrong! Only reason it isn’t 5 stars is because of the seating arrangement at this food truck area… Love the food though, can’t stress that enough.

Solid bbq, fast SXSW service and they let me sub extra meat for the carb sides. They actually gave me extra meat instead of sides! Thanks for great SXSW service.

Just finished a BBQ tour of the city with a brisket sandwich worth every penny. The value of this food truck destination under covered picnic tables is simply the best. Large portion size was main reason I am ranking them so high. Flavor and tenderness of the meat is great.

Let me clarify the A-OK rating! If you find yourself wandering around on a coldish night in the vicinity of drunk avenue aka 6th street, and are craving something meaty with prices that are not an instant buzz kill, then this is the place! Friendly folks and not the best bbq ever, but it is quite a satisfying chew, even if you are not drunk. On many a occasion the brisket is weirdly underseasoned and dry, but on other occasions, it is a smokey meaty bite. Pulled pork has always been nice and pork with the burnt bits adding a complex caramelly smokiness to the eat. Ribs at times need the sauce to make them sing, but are always serviceable. No this is not fancy award bbq, but it is definitely solidly middle class bbq at its best!

My girlfriend and I ordered multiple meats and received barely edible brisket, dry sausage, rancid chopped meat, and spoiled potato salad. Oh and some nachos that smelled horrible and tasted worse. Not doing that again.

Its real BBQ, which automatically makes it better than any food masquerading as BBQ. However, on a Texas BBQ(aka real BBQ) scale, it was mediocre. Pulled pork was good, but that is easy with all the sauce. Ribs, brisket, and chicken were good, but if you are a BBQ guy like me, there’s nothing to see here, especially considering Franklin is just around the corner. Ultimately, it will do if you are craving BBQ, and you are on a budget.

I came to Austin looking for good Texas barbecue and this did not disappoint!!! I got the three meat plate with brisket, pulled pork, and sausage. It also came with potato salad, beans, and two slices of bread. The food was SPECTACULAR! The woman who ran the food truck was really sweet and we talked for a little bit and just had that genuine southern hospitality which made me so happy. The food came out really quick and even though it was 11 pm it still tasted fresh and delicious!

Friendly service… Even scared the bees away for me! Food… YUMMY. We shared a four meat plate. Chicken, brisket, ribs and sausage. All tasty. Bbq sauce spot on. Chicken was my favorite. Potato salad is the bomb! First meal and Austin, we are off to a good start!

I am not sure how this place has a 4 star rating. I got a 2 meat plate and I was thoroughly disappointed with it. All of the meal tasted pre made expect the brisket, which seemed like it was most likely smoked by them. The pulled pork had the same taste, look and texture of a pulled pork you would buy at a grocery store in a container. All in all, I would suggest another food truck if you’re in the area. Which there are multiple trucks in a close distance. 2 stars instead of one: the sauce on the brisket was decent and the lady taking orders was pretty nice.

Thumbs Up Here! Ok — Bar-B-Q Heaven is a food truck on Red River right near Barbarella within e-z reach of the Mohawk and Sixth Street. It is open till 4 am. If you are coming off of a fantastic night of dancing, music or drinking … all food quality automatically goes up six stars. Three 7&7’s and a night of dancing to Icona Pop or Joan Jett and the world is generally perfect anyway. You can eat roofing shingle and it is the greatest thing you have ever had in your life. That said Bar-B-Q Heaven is a genuinely good food truck. The Pulled Pork is my personal favorite. It is saucier and spicier than other versions elsewhere … but I don’t care. Bring on the sauce. Brisket is totally respectable — fatty enough to have decent taste — lean enough not to have your cardiologist order up immediate heart tests and with a good smoke to it. Sausage is not to my taste — but it will be to many Texans. Some people love their sausage coarsely ground and with black pepper to spare. If this is you … BBQ Heaven has your sausage. Sides are standard and if you told me the beans came out of a can and the potato salad came from HEB I would not disbelieve you. But with a plate full of totally respectable meat — who really cares? Bring on the potato salad and the beans. (They probably got the pickles out of a jar too — rather than making their own. And I don’t think they lose a lot of sleep over that fact.) This ain’t a trip to Lockhart and it ain’t Louie Mueller’s but it is damm fine damm respectable Texas Bar-B-Q. And it is right on Red River right when you need it at 2 in the morning and the clubs are closing. BBQ when you need it, where you need it, and perfectly fine.
