It’s a Subway, where you can have it your way, but don’t get too crazy. Unlike all these other reviews, my experience here was totally fine. The workers did not appear unclean and they moved pretty darn fast, so either Subway got its act together or some of y’all are a little too judgmental. It’s downtown Austin, so I’ll let the reader be the judge of that. I ordered a 6 inch turkey italiano on italian bread with provolone cheese, cucumbers, pickles, olives, tomatoes, salt and pepper, and oil and vinegar. I also picked up some jalapeño chips so I could make a chipwich, which is where you put chips on your sandwich and then eat it. So ~*~*~*CcCrRraAaAzZzZyYyY*~*~*~, I know. Whatever, you eat your sandwich your way. The sandwich was tasty and all the veggies were fresh. It’s the most I could hope for from a sandwich chain that isn’t my beloved Thundercloud.(And at least it isn’t shitty ass Jimmy John’s.) Good job, Subway. I’ll probably be back.

Allows open carry so I definitely won’t be eating here. However, I won’t be missing much. There are better choices for sandwiches on Congress.

As I walked in this location about a month or two ago, I was very impressed. I work not too far and was in line behind a women that goes there almost daily. The young gentleman that was helping her, recognized her and remembered her order from before. He confirmed it with her and also offered her something since she goes there daily. I did not get offended at all by not getting offered the same thing but rather impressed that this young person took the time to remember a good customer. Keep up the good work!

Very busy but extremely efficient. Everything was fresh. The restaurant is clean though the windows could use a washing.

Subway is normally a 3.5 to me, but AJ was on top of his game. Friendly and engaged in making the best possible sub. 5 stars!

Meh. It’s a Subway. Maybe a little slower than most, but their hours don’t suck, as opposed to most downtown food that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Glad they’re in the ‘hood.

This is probably biased because I have worked at a Subway. These guys do not listen to anything you ask for. Annoying. I have been here 4 to 5 times, and not once have they gotten it right. I mean how hard is it to microwave then toast. I asked for the every time. Got to love it when you expect your food to be hot, but it’s nice and chilly. Other than that, it’s a good spot for a convenient, and cheap, meal.

Awful awful awful! Bathroom was flooded, no toilet paper, got cherry coke and it was water, and my girlfriend found a hair in her food.

Friendliest Subway ever… a welcoming respite! Just stopped in to get drinks around 3pm on a 97-degree June afternoon… got overheated walking to and around the Capitol. Drink-only guests are sometimes snubbed in eating establishments. But, the counter girl and the shift manager both were so warm and inviting… to us and to four other sets of patrons in/out while we were there for about 15 minutes, only two of which also ordered meals. They even said, «Can we make you a sandwich, or do you just need a big cool drink?» And the counter clerk pointed out to us and to a woman carrying a purse &3 shopping bags, «Bottled drinks or large cups… both the same price, but you can refill the cup.» Place was spotless, and we also got great cookies with our two soft drinks, but we got more than our $ 5 worth just in the pleasure of those two ladies’ welcoming smiles! Downtown Austin is BLESSED to have this Subway store!

Subway is subway but I felt compelled to review this particular location because the people who work there are wonderful. The lady who I think is the manager gives the friendliest greeting each time someone walks in, and the other employees are just as friendly. The food is tasty, quick and cheap and I appreciate that the employees, who have to deal with other downtown workers in a rush, are always friendly.

The downtown Austin Subway is a good Subway. It’s got tasty food that’s healthier than McDonald’s, a super convenient location on Congress Avenue at 8th, friendly employees, a beautiful and clean interior, and the usual cheap Subway prices. What’s not to love? I’ve come here around once or twice a year as my go-to place when I’m downtown and it hasn’t disappointed me yet.

DO. NOT. GO. HERE. I don’t know why anyone would go to subway in Austin the first place, nor why I thought it would be a good idea to happen into this place. I immediately regretted the decision. The interior is dingy and not in a good, kind of eclectic way. This place was packed, too. On a positive note, the line moved quickly. My spirit was immediately crushed as I began to order a veggie footlong. The ingredients did not look fresh and neither did the person making my sandwich. I’ve been in my share of subways, and usually walk away apathetic – this one made me feel like I needed a shower. I didn’t want to eat it and I couldn’t bring myself to throw it away. Luckily there are homeless people everywhere downtown and one of them ate the sandwich. At least something good came out of this.

Whenever I meet someone that thinks Subway is great, I think to myself, «they have no idea what a good sandwich is.» The fact of the matter is that Subway has stereotyped the American sandwich the way that the Olive Garden has stereotyped Italian food. Is this stuff good? Yeah, I guess it’s alright. I’m never grossed out by what I get, and the $ 5 footlong is becoming a better deal every day as every other sub shop in town is either raising their prices or making things smaller. I thought about giving this place 2 stars as this location is pretty sloppy, even by Subway standards. The Sandwich Artists here really are just one big mess, and they seem to make something seemingly easy appear rather difficult. They are never rude, but if there are more than 3 people ordering in the place(which is pretty common being as though it’s downtown) they are all running around, smacking into each other. Depending on my mood, it ranges from amusing to infuriating, and it almost always leads to my taking a longer lunch break than intended. I decided to keep it at 3 stars, because sometimes after a long workout on a lunch break it’s nice to know what you’re getting, even if it is mediocre in almost every way.
